      Professor Tim Noakes admitted he was wrong in advocating a high carb diet. Type 2 diabetes numbers are crippling our health care systems. This is clearly a debate which will most likely not go away soon! Who is right?... time will tell but at theis moment sugar - regardless of where it comes from and under what label - appears to be causing havoc on health.

      @@klowther247 - Based off my experience, I would say that keto is not good long term. It could be used as a short-term way to lose weight fast, but it's unsustainable long-term. I can't believe anyone who says they've been keto for super long and still feel great, as I followed the diet to the T. Made sure I had the right supplements, did the things that were supposed to "fix issues" if I started feeling off (like having salt/magnesium if I couldn't sleep - yeah, that didn't work). I ate all organic/grass finished high quality animal foods as well. I just had nowhere near the energy as I do now as mostly plant based - when I had taken an extended break from gyming, then went back, me on vegan on the first/worst day could do what I couldn't do at my best on keto.
      Profressor Tim Noakes can say what he says, but there are no large long term studies on keto. There are for a vegan/vegetarian diets though (study on adventists) and they have the longest lives and lowest mortality rates. Sugar IS really bad for you, btw. But with vegan diets or any diet, you shouldn't be eating a lot of sugar (most sugar isn't vegan anyway, since it's processed with bone char).

      Do did I when I changed from plant based to Paleo. Change creates health. I am not for or against either, just for finding what is best for oneself and that too changes with age, location, having children, etc. But to know which diet is best for a particular person, we need at least 30 years. One year is still a reaction to change. Clean diet or organic real foods makes one feel good right there regardless of plant based or not.

      It’s low carb 20-50 grams a day. Moderate healthy organic protein of 3-6 Ounce per meal with high amount of salad and veggies equaling 4700mg of potassium and 400mg of magnesium. Healthy Fats recommended are avocado and coconut mostly. butter in moderation.
      Dr Berg has a lot of success with diabetes autoimmune blood pressure and cholesterol & weight loss
      I’m vegan whole plant based, and a Naturopathic Dr myself, these Drs don’t understand that different people require different diets and like my wife vegan doesn’t help her at all. She needs eggs and Buffalo dairy feta cheese and yogurt.
      Metabolic typing is individual biochemistry.
      I test my patients in the clinic and some thrive on organic meat fish eggs and others thrive on cheese
      I don’t believe anyone Dr has all the answers.
      This dr stating on ketogenic diet you can eat fried chicken and as much protein as you like is misinforming the public.
      High protein intake will spike insulin as much as high carb diet. Fat is the only thing that doesn’t spike insulin

      He tells us he was converted by a couple of videos. And he’s doing it at a time with global leaders have decided to take away and control our food supply to a large degree. No meat for you! This can and will cause many people to sicken and die after an unhealthy life. All the people who suffer from high oxalate load, and the people who cannot feel healthy and free from arthritis and other inflammatory diseases if they eat anything but meat… They will be toast, back into full on symptoms and living no quality of life at all. I agree, we need more doctors to wake up to the fact that they have not been educated How to heal people with diet. But he has only taken one baby step. He has yet to figure out that there are many, many more factors involved outside of what he was trained in.

    • @bitrudder3792
      @bitrudder3792 Před 3 lety

      He has yet to figure out that a high cholesterol number is not a disease. It may, or it may not be, a sign of another process in the body that wants corrected. And sometimes the only way you can fix the underlying problem is worth animal protein. Animal fats.

    • @MagnumCarta
      @MagnumCarta Před rokem

      @@bitrudder3792 If we are going to use his patient case study as an example I would look at the fact that a plant based diet allowed an overweight man to get to a normal weight, get off of high blood pressure medication, and stop needing to use an asthma inhaler as a much more important point than cholesterol since that's what you want to focus on.
      I get your argument on "he basically said he was converted by a couple of videos". I agree, that does not sound like convincing evidence and comes across more as "I can be easily swayed". However at the same time we shouldn't just cherry pick around the discussion such as only focusing on whether or not cholesterol is bad while ignoring larger points like getting off of an inhaler or getting to a healthy blood pressure.
      I also do not agree that "sometimes the only way you can fix the underlying problem is worth animal protein. Animal fats". You may have an argument as to perhaps saturated fats are not as bad as we make them out to be. You are definitely incorrect though if you think some type of magic happens within an animal. Saturated fats are harder to get in a plant-based diet but your body does not give a damn if that saturated fat came from a coconut or from a cow. Now of course if your body has reactions to other compounds in coconuts that's a different story.
      At the same time too though, do you understand just how absolutely massive the plant kingdom is? While not every plant is consumable by humans there is still a plethora that is. A person may have an issue with peanuts or tree nuts or wheat or some other type of plant(s) but that is where allergy tests are important and consulting with a doctor who DOES have a specialization in nutrition: a dietician. They can better work through creating a meal plan that targets all the nutrients and recommend supplements where things would be harder (e.g. B12, omega-3s like DHA/EPA, etc).

      When you objectively study the paleo diet in how it is practiced by most well known advocates, it is essentially a Mediterranean diet minus the grains. The dairy issue is a point of debate with some paleo types being more accepting of it.
      Few paleoists are trying to re-create an actual paleolithic diet but to mimic it's nutritional profile and health qualities. Some paleoists tend back toward a broader traditional foods approached, as informed by Weston A. Price and Sally Fallon Morrell. But others prefer to keep it more strict.
      Still, what they all share is a strong plant-based approach. I've never met a group of people who eat more vegetables than paleoists. I know many vegetarians and vegans who don't come close to eating so many vegetables, often instead preferring a grain-based diet along with rice and legumes.

You can sit on the couch and eat oreos all day long and say you're vegan. Vegan-yes. Healthy-absolutely not. WFPB is straight up is what is actually is: whole grains, the produce isle- pretty much stay in that area- legumes. Look up T. Colin Campbell... he can better explain it. If that were the case, then you would never hear of people leaving a plant based lifestyle for animal based and getting healthier but alas, there are a shit ton. All this video does is confirm that not all diets are for everybody. It comes down to eating clean food that is optimal for each individual. So many people go full carnivore and get super frickin healthy because of it. You will never be able to argue that away. It just is what it is so it will be what it will be.

      I am glad to read that you feel you have hit the jack pot with whole food plant based eating and the more you can eat like that and crowd out the rest of the rubbish the better. Dr McDougall is an absolute legend and so is Dr Colin Campbell - do read his book "whole" really interesting read. My top tip for cooking is double if not tripple batch your food when you do cook and freeze portions. Do the same with your lunch. Pick up Limes on you tube and website gives some excellent ideas even for breakfast. I do her breakfast burittos and freeze them. Although be careful with some of her amazing recipes as she does use oil when I personally think she doesn't need to and I am surprised as she is a vegan dietician but I have done lots of her recipes and tweaked them only slightly. Her refried beans are awesome along with her nutella. with her nutella swap out the coconut oil for a bit of plant based milk. I combine her recipe with Plantiful Kikis nutella recipe and to make it as healthy as possible. Good luck. Oh and do consume a good portion of raw fruit and veggies a day whether that be in a smoothie or a salad as the enzymes in uncooked food are highly beneficial when not cooked. Mix and match. You got this!

    Please back what you say with pier reviewed science. A healthy ketogenic diet does not include as much fried chicken and butter as you want! Just like you said in a WFPB diet, you shouldn’t over eat bread and sugar. If you are addicted to carbs, it’s very hard to moderate them, thus fails every diet I’ve ever tried before going keto and getting them out of my system. Now I am in control of my cravings and chose intermittent fasting along with a low(simple) carbs, a moderate amount of grass fed protein and higher healthy fats which keep me satiated and able to fast without crashing or feeling hungry! I’ve kept 60lbs off for over 3 years and all my blood work is perfect. I eat tasty healthy food and never feel the need to cheat and never feel like I’m dieting.

There aren't any plant foods with low enough carbs and high enough calories to make a vegan ketogenic diet viable. Maybe avocados, but even them have around 17g of carbs per piece that would potentially prevent you from enter completely into ketosis. If, as vegans, we want the benefits of ketosis, fasting is the only way to go.

      You did not reverse your diabetes. All you are doing is controlling the amount of sugar that is in your bloodstream. With type 2, the CAUSE is insulin resistance--NOT too much sugar. The sugar cannot get into your cells (for energy) because you are insulin resistant and instead stays in your bloodstream. You are simply keeping the sugar in your bloodstream low but you are still insulin resistant. Insulin resistance is caused by a high fat diet. So you are still type 2 diabetic. Eventually, as you age, it will catch up with you since you are not curing the base cause of type 2 diabetes--insulin resistance. The only way to do that is to get your fat calories down to about 10% of total calories. The only way to do that is to go whole foods, plant based, no added oil, sugar or salt. What you are doing is kind of like an immune deficient person avoiding most germs. They may not get sick very often, but they are still immune deficient. Don't forget that Dr. Walter Kempner cured type 2 diabetes with a rice, fruit and sugar (0 cholesterol) diet! Loads of sugar but almost no fat. Insulin resistance was eliminated and their cells were able to use the sugar instead of it staying in their bloodstream. Strange diet but he actually CURED type 2 diabetes, didn't just control it. If you are eating high fat, you are still insulin resistant and therefore still type 2 diabetic.

      Here is the actual main cause of type 2 diabetes. czcams.com/video/MonwPt4LIN0/video.html Don't forget that Dr. Walter Kempner cured type 2 diabetes by putting his patients on a white rice, sugar and fruit diet at the beginning--very low fat and zero cholesterol--very high sugar and carbs. It also cured hypertension. We are not talking about exceptions, we are talking about the rule. It nearly ALWAYS works. Those few who have another cause have something unusual going on--they are not the rule, they are the exception! Trying to tell people to do what they do is just like telling everyone to smoke heavily because there is an occasional person who makes it to age 100 while heavily smoking. We know that this is the exception, not the rule. The same goes for type 2 diabetes. The RULE is a high fat diet is the cause of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. There are exceptions but we don't treat everyone as though they are an exception. We treat them as the rule. We do 7-day rescues (have done about 7 of them now in our group). We work consistently with people. Getting their fat down to 10% (Blue Zone population studies) works consistently. We EXPECT people to be cured by going plant-based, no added oil, salt or sugar. It happens almost every single time. It is the rule, NOT the exception. And what is with the name calling? That is what my kids did when they were young! When they matured they no longer did that--they learned to treat EVERYONE with respect.

      Actually, Diabetes II is both! Eating foods high in Carbs...high glycemic foods ...raises Blood sugar which activates Insulin levels. I turned my diabetes around too. A1C of 8.2 to 5's....by Ketone/low carb high fat diet. I am a believer. The only ting that has worked for me. Sugar is the HUGE culprit along with processed horrid foods; the foods that turn into sugar as well; all grains, sugar; process foods. And no, Plant based is not the way for me even though I do add Low Glycemic foods; lots of greens, and small amounts of plant based; cruciferous veggies' broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower..and I am an RN who has studied this for the last 10 years.

      I was diagnosed pre-diabetic and after 4 mths of almost WFPB diet, I had another blood test. I'm no longer pre-diabetic! I also lost 4 inches around my waist; not sure about loss in terms of weight as I'm not sure what my initial weight was, but I weighed 128 lbs at the doctor's office (prob around 12 lbs loss). No exercise or sports during those 4 mths. I was so confused about the controversy surrounding the low carb high fat vs the low fat high carb and was worried I needed to do Keto vegan, which I find super restrictive! Now I know I can enjoy bread, pasta and potatoes :)

    In 2019, I went on a low carb regiment, inspired by videos from What I've Learned. I was pounding down the eggs, the cheese, and all the fatty cuts of meat, you name it, and I was on it. I don't think adopting a low carb style of eating did me much good. I may have even suffered slightly. I'm pretty sure I net gained a few pounds of belly fat over the year, although my weight has never been an issue. I think my cognition was negatively impacted also, if only slightly.
    I got inspired to try a plant based diet out strictly for environmental reasons in 2020, expecting to feel like garbage, constantly be hungry, have less energy, and things like that. I can say that I absolutely do not miss the low carb way of eating whatsoever, and I am fully content adopting my whole food, plant based, high carb, low fat (circa 65C/20F/15P) diet. I feel better in every way, and I can feel slightly sick after eating a lot of peanut butter, coconut oil, or too much of any fat in general.
    I'm not looking back, and I will stick to this way of eating for life. It's not only better for the environment, but it's better for health, and that's what the real science says. I just wish I knew about all this earlier! I actually have MORE energy, LESS hunger, and I genuinely don't miss any of the junk I used to eat, because plant foods are delicious when you eat them all the time!

I still IF however it's all plant based now, and I feel great. I'm also no added sugar, no added oil's, no dairy....No more cheese was the only hard part. No oil takes some new recipe thinking. The science behind a ketogenic diet has a specific and measurable goal - to switch the body’s fuel source from short-term carbs to more long-term fat stores. Even complex carbs are short-term in comparison to fat.
    Once someone has been gone Keto for a good amount of time they can and usually do ‘carb up’ by adding a wider range of whole foods (like fruit) and other nutrient dense carbohydrates.
    The extremely low-carb phase is mainly used in the beginning, in order to train the body to look to fat for fuel instead of carbs. They do not seek to eliminate them all or permanently, but rather steer dieters to better sources (vegetables for example).

      Critical thinking folks! Critical thinking! I continue to be amazed at how little critical thinking goes on in these discussions. For instance, Dr. Lim. The comments I have seen about him show that some believe he is a simple family physician who ate one way and changed his mind and decided to eat a different way. Few appear to have done research on him BEFORE making statements. If they had they would have found he is the Medical Director of the McDougall Program. He works all day long, every day, with thousands of people, helping them reverse chronic disease and achieve good health. He sees the results every day. He knows what he is talking about. In my group in our 7-day rescue programs, we see universal results. Everyone has improvement--not some. And lets look at Forks Over Knives--touting a very selective research claim. Now if I had seen Forks Over Knives for the first time I would see who Dr. Esselstyn is first. I would quickly find out he is 83 and has been working with thousands and thousands of patients for many decades. I would find out he has a 99.6% success rate. I would look for the study referred to in Forks Over Knives. I would notice it started in 1985 and the study was published in 1995. That was quite a LONG time ago. I would go to a medical library and see that since then there have been thousands of studies done! Not a single study ever negated his claims. I would find out why Dr. Esselstyn (who was first trying to help breast cancer women avoid breast cancer--he is a general surgeon) kept changing diets and tweaking them until he found what worked. I would find that he eventually stumbled upon The China Study (the Blue Zone population studies were later added). He started with that information and continued tweaking his diet until he achieved his 99.6% success rate. When your success rate is that high, working with thousands of patients of ALL kinds, you know you have found the correct diet! I would also look to see how widespread his program is. For instance my girlfriend's husband had a heart attack. Once he was partially recovered they sent him to rehab (actually they sent her as well). It was Dr. Esselstyn's program. I have another friend whose husband recently had a very serious heart issue. They live in the Chicago area. Again--they were sent to rehab--the Dr. Esselstyn program. He does seminars around the world (he is very trim, healthy and active for 83) and doctors everywhere are using his program. Someone who joined our nutrition group had a stroke and type 2 diabetes--severely restricted blood flow in one leg--they almost had to amputate his food. He was given Dr. Esselstyn's book to read. It was ignored until they said amputation was their only option. Came across the book and called Dr. Esselstyn and joined his program. 10 years later he is off all meds, reversed all his diseases, never had to amputate, has full function of that leg now. Forks Over Knives did NOT tout very selective research. Decades later tons more research has been done, physicians all over the world are using his program. There has not been a single incidence of it not working in regards to chronic disease. Please do some research BEFORE replying to a video.
