Social Media Vs Reality | What A Movement Practice Really Looks Like

  • It is easy to get caught up in the comparison of yourself to 'X' person on the internet. You may see an impressive physique, unique perspectives, cool skills or even the perception of a perfect life. In reality, everyone is struggling daily with a lot of the same challenges that we all have. That 'cool move' took weeks, months, years of practice. That photo of a 'perfect life' was taken right after a huge argument. I think it extremely important to show that it is not all fun, you fail daily in different ways, you let yourself down, you lose motivation, you get frustrated and this is all NORMAL. It is important to keep practicing regardless. I want to promote longevity in the practice and in order to do so I must show what it truly looks like behind the curtain.
    Keep moving.

Thanks, Lee. It is much more difficult than a standard muscle up but was a great process to go through

You’re a beast. And for whatever reason, I have never thought of doing a muscle up like that.

A very fun pattern but much more advanced and difficult than a regular muscle up. If you want to work it I would recommend having 5+ ring muscle ups, 5+forward rolls on rings, 5+backward rolls on rings, 20+ second full shoulder stand on rings, 20+ second L-sit on rings and a solid advanced tuck front lever/back lever. Some of these are prerequisites and some are just a better use of your time if you don't have them already.

just wondering.... can Ido Portal do everything you are trying to accomplish here? i know you train under the Ido Portal Method. are you watching videos of ido do these moves and trying to replicate them or is there another source in his archieves?

I am sure he can/could do everything and more in these videos. Some videos are of Ido and some are of his team performing. It should also be said that a good amount of what is in this video was done through my own research outside of Ido's online coaching. I like to take on projects/tasks on top of what I am doing with them. It is a chance to challenge my ability to learn as well as a personal creative part of my practice.

    Wow! Your strength is unbelievable!
I am also so impressed with your flexibility. It is difficult for me to stress flexibility to Davey and Stan. In our "backwoods" area people truly believe flexibility is for sissies. The basketball and football teams do "warm ups" which I know help the joints but there is a huge lack of stretching. Do you have any suggestions for me to promote stretching more? Last summer I gave Davey 3 hip and hamstring stretches to do...I told him after every practice....but he only does it sometimes when I insist and physically help. I am concerned at his level he will get an injury that could be prevented by stretching more.

That is an unfortunate thought to have. I don’t know where it comes from but seems to be in other places as well. As a general guideline: re-learning and using the flat foot squat, touching the floor with the hands, moving the spine and hanging from something above with straight arms are things we all should do daily. This provides full body stretching but also much more than that.
