Best of MikeOldfield: goo.gl/5FqCWf Subscribe here: goo.gl/xRrbjs Music video by Mike Oldfield performing William Tell Overture. (C) 1977 Mercury Records Limited
Sadly, Mike's distant cousins from all over Europe (Michail from the USSR, Mikael from Denmark, Mika from Finland, Michel from France, Michalis from Greece, Mikkel from Norway, Michele from Italy, Michał from Poland, Mihai from Romania, Mykolas from Lithuania and Miguel from Spain) didn't want to participate.^^
In the 1970's musicians didn't have the technology to record different instruments at different times in the recording studio.. they only had the technology to make 3D duplicate prints of themselves..
For another couple of this tune, try Glen's Smokin' one (stick with it to at least 2:28) czcams.com/video/GUBhE00h9U0/video.html , and the Schmutzdorfers (it was them playing, not those you see) czcams.com/video/dwhGlrZOfFI/video.html (I now _expect_ the baby at 1:02!).
This guitar tone is called "woman tone". Eric Clapton pioneered it in the 1960's. It is achieved by cranking your amp and setting it fairly bright, but turning the tone knobs on a guitar all the way of. It results in a soft almost flute like tone
That is indeed. And the way he plays them is staggering. Also even the "easiest" of instruments is palyed with earnesty,... I wonder whether he had Asperger, or a different form of Autism? But wonderful version of the Tell'sche Ouverture.
Amazing how people do stuff like this(visually I mean) on youtube all the time, but back then it was so novel and new. and such a wonderful performance!
Tonight only, Mike Oldfield in concert. Also featuring, Mike Oldfield, Mike Oldfield, and Mike Oldfield, and introducing Mike Oldfield with Mike Oldfield, and also Mike Oldfield.
I found this single in a bargain bin in early 1980 and played it over and over. It sounded like a simple little tune. Only now, seeing this video, do I realise how much went into it. That bargain bin (35p each single) was a godsend for Mike Oldfield fans. I remember Cuckoo Song b/w Pipe Tune, Portsmouth b/s Speak tho' you only say farewell, a single b/w Argiers (might have been In Dulci Jubilo). I can't recall what was on the other side of this single. Anyone remember?
Anderson is a talented man in a different way. Room for many talents, the more the better. Both a bit under recognised, although, Tull were huge around 71 just before 'Bells.
What cracks me up about this video, for the longest time, is how he plays the jingle bells as if it the most important instrument in the world. He just is a musical genius.
I just found out, that the part Oldfield is playing is actually the final of the overture, the last bit. Never knew that. But love that song and this video with all the many Mike's
Hoping the kids who loved Mike's Nuclear, found this and enjoyed. He may not have sang on 'most' of his tracks, but his musical talent that even makes cover versions (Rossini) his own.
@@loplopthebird1860 BOOMER LOL. ...Gen X actually ... I hate "Boomers" with a passion. That said the only people who don't hate boomers are other boomers... You must admit this guy has some serious talent that is very rare.
There are very few artistes that are so many talented, Mick Oldfield, David Bowie and Roy Wood, it's fantastic to her them and although I love the other two, Mike Oldfield eclipses them both with his musical skill.
I never realized he had so many brothers.
Computers. It's all him. Your mother must be proud of you. Not.
In this case so many twins🤣
and all got the same haircut amazing
And cousins !!

@@peter-fuppe-fuchsyeah, that's the joke, bro...

This is Mick, Michael, Mickey, Micky, Mikey, Micheàl and Mike Oldfield, what a musical family ❤️

This guy is just incredible. Can remember listening to him back in the day, but now, realise just what an incredible talent he was.
Fabulous clean and crisp picking on that SG.

true
Multi-instrumentalist youtuber before the youtube exist. Not bad at all
Excellent
That smile at the end was priceless, he, he!❤
He is a true multi instrumentalist!
He plays all instruments by him self!!
❤❤❤
Before computers musicians had to clone themselves multiple times in order to play their songs

I'll soon be 52 too and my late father raised me on Mike's excellent music - have every album, every single and most live concerts on dvd.
Watch Punkadiddle or The Cooks Tune, you will be hooked to this man.

Mike Oldfield has a really unique, soft guitar tone.
Sometimes it sounds more like a double reed than a guitar, it's very unique
And annoying.
@@BurrenSHdrums What
@@BurrenSHdrums No way! Mike's guitars are awesome!
This guitar tone is called "woman tone". Eric Clapton pioneered it in the 1960's.

Oldfield has a level of multi-instrumental professionalism that I can barely even dream of.
Check out the Swedish band Wintergatan. They are all multi-instrumental - amazing.

8 times Mike on one classic song. Amazing. Timeless.
Handcrafted! Without any computer, all the stuff and the electronic helpers we have, now!
Love Mike oldfield xx
Mike Oldfield is the Mozart of new age
I am more amazed by the fact that they were able to overlay videos already at the time when Mike Oldfield looked like this. Late 60s or what?
I've always loved the way he approaches lead guitar, usually just switching that tone control off and wobbling the shit out of each note. Magical.
Der hatte schon ne geile Band, damals :-)
This is the Mike Oldfield Ensemble playing Willian Tell Overture!
We have
Mike Oldfield - Everything
And that's it!
The definition of an intellectual is someone who can hear the William Tell Overture and not immediately think of The Lone Ranger :)
One of the Most talented Musicians of the Century !
The Mike Oldfields
In short: amazing. Thanks Mike for your contribution to music.
Great Musician...Great Multi-instrumentalist...Greets From Poland !
God damn it! Who let Mike Oldfield at the cloning machine again?
Visual effects aside, the timing and syncing is just perfect, and to think everything was played by a single person.
My very 1st Mike Oldfield video I've watched 30 years ago. But only in 2001 I could finally could appreciate his works and been a fan ever since.
Such a fantastically talented artist always keeps me smiling brilliant thank you
I was brought up with his music my mother loved it so do I, I am now sixty seven and I still cannot get enough

i recognize only one person as talented as him, Ian Anderson.
I am a Oldfield Fan and Jethro Tull, too. Yes, Ian is famous, too
Agreed 😃

Or Jon Anderson
I approve this comment eight years after it was posted. Shut up
A precursor of nowadays acappella videos. Mike Oldfield a precursor of the best.

One can never have too many Mike Oldfields

what a sweet smile at the end :)

Possibly the most musically talented person to have lived. I doubt a musical instrument has been made that he cannot play extremely well.
