    I have never been disappointed with the packaging of any WEN product. They really do protect the contents of the box very well.

    Dav,
    I like you am not a cabinet maker. I classifie myself as a wood butcher as I have built a few log homes. I presently own four WEN products. The last two were actually for wood work; a ten inch miter saw and the portable stand specifically made for the miter saw. And I'm impressed with the dollar value of all four of these that I'm looking to buy the WEN JT833H.
    Watched your unboxing and one year update. And thanks to your videos have reinforced what I find in WEN products. Mo

    The adjustment knobs can be moved farther apart. Also, the flat nut goes into the groove long ways and the knob sits farther back. Just an FYI.

    What are the assembled dimensions? Particularly front edge of the jointer at the blade guard to the edge of the fence rail? I am interested in this jointer as my old Sunhill no longer has knives available, but I want to make sure it will fit my flip top tool stand.

      Not including the fence sliding bracket, it is about 12 inches. However, the fence sliding bracket protrudes 7 inches or so beyond that. Hopefully that is what you were looking for. Here is a link to Wen's product page which also has a link to the manual which could shed more insight into the dimensions: wenproducts.com/collections/planers-jointers/products/wen-jt833h-10-amp-8-inch-spiral-benchtop-jointer-with-extendable-table

    Good video, I have this jointer and I am taking it back. The HSS inserts are poor quality and dulled extremely quickly when running hardwoods. They are only 2-sided and sold in packs of 10. They are not that cheap considering the cost of the jointer. You can buy carbide inserts on Amazon but they are garbage too, not sharp at all. Currently I am eyeing the Wahuda 8", comes with 4-sided carbide inserts from the factory. I have other WEN tools and they are great. I liked this jointer and was dead square out of the box. They inserts just dont hold up.

      Hey Southside,
      I'm a retired wood butcher and I learned something yesterday that blew my mind.
      They always say don't cut grass when wet which I thought I understood. Until I read that mowing a wet lawn will dull the blades. Go figure 🤔

      @@DaverMade Thanks a million! LOL; so, after I posted my newbie question, I ran a piece of wood or two through it and immediately understood why one wants the wax! 😁 The wood did not slide well at all. Much better with the wax. 🙂 One more question, pretty please - how often do you re-apply? And, do you try to remove the old wax somehow? (Okay, that was two questions.)

  • @jasonmartinez2434

    How did you set the infeed and outfeed tables? I have the same jointer and I set it up correctly, or so I think, but when I run boards it seems that it wants to cut everything instead of just the "high" spots and this leaves the wood slightly bowed (Edge Jointing)

    • @DaverMade
      @DaverMade  Před 3 lety

      I checked them per the manual and they were seemingly good to go, so I didn’t have to make any adjustments there. The outfeed table is just barley aligned with the top the blades. My first thought was the outfeed table could be too low, but I’m not entirely sure regarding the bowing.

    • @jab-pt3pc
      @jab-pt3pc Před 3 lety +7

      Jason, try to keep pressure on only the outfeed side of the table as you run your board through. Pushing down on the infeed table will cause the board to mimic the current shape of the piece. Do not force the board down on the blades. Hope this helps.

  • @bosinganahuac

    can i joint a wider board by not attaching the fence and cover

    • @DaverMade
      @DaverMade  Před 3 lety

      I’ve seen videos showing people doing that on a 6” jointer and then they use a jig to clean up the over hang that was not jointed with a planer. Search for “Jointing wide boards” and a bunch of videos will come up about it. I assume those concepts apply to this one, but I have not done it myself.

    Boy Scouts are wrong. Always cut toward yourself. That way you have power and control.
    When you cut away, you lose control of the blade after it cuts through the material. THAT is how people get hurt.
    If you can't cut toward yourself without losing control of the blade, you're using the wrong blade.
