Use to think Warez were cool too... Until I met the community with their copy cat mindset and stoned "trap/edm" that they paste all over the net for free (because you know they can offord to make nothing off releases because It cost them nothing).
The problem I have is that people who make music for free put out copy cat shit because they just don't respect the MEDIUM and its FORMAT. They can't innovate because they don't appreciate the time and expertise and genius it requires to Innovate.

After accruing bundles of them I still find myself going back to stock reverbs for that perfect guitar plate or room verbs for the drums. Stock plugins are fine & if you learn how to use them properly you can achieve the same results as boutique software. Ok some things are only obtainable with pricier third party stuff. But not a lot. I got away from that around 2000....ever since every piece of software i own i paid for. On the beginning i used to buy all the DAW's, i literally have all the major ones paid for, ProTools, Logic X, Cubase, Reason, Studio One. Now i stick only with Studio One. I bought tons of virtual synths because i was used to have all of them for free. Now i only use Native Instruments Komplete Ultimate 11 and all the Output.com instruments and expansions, rest of the sounds i use are my hardware synths. For the plugins i used to have all the Waves cracked, pretty much everything was out there. Nowadays i use only UAD , I bought almost all of them and couple of nice ones from Softube and Waves that i paid for and i love. And yes, you right...when i used to have all of them....hundreds...i didn't know what or how to use it...now that i paid for it, i researched it before i bought it and i really have use of what i bought. Plus on top of everything is that "PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP ". Most of my friends went the same route. I can say one thing that i observed....people that love music and do music with passion will always pay for it, because they know the value of it. All the rest come and go and they will never do something in the music scene.

I don't generally disagree with most of these points, and I do tend to buy software that is reasonably priced, but I personally think that charging hundreds of pounds for software is unnecessary and actually counterproductive. I'll happily pay £50 quid, potentially £100 if it's something really expansive / high quality. But if we're talking £200 / £300+ for an EQ or something then hell no. I'll wait for a flash sale, or obtain by... other means...
To use an anecdote from another industry: I've read stories about indie developers who've lowered the price of their games after struggling to make ends meet. They then reported sales booming and making enough to fund several future projects.
