- My first ever Falcom and Ys game! We're off to a good start I'd say! ^_^ Ys Memories of Celceta was super fun, one of my top action games for sure. Enjoy my Ys Memories of Celceta review!!
" A bustling town deep in the frontier at the foot of an endless sea of trees... It is into this wild and untamed setting that a young man collapses, memories gone and only his name to guide him. Bereft of his past, Adel Christin wanders the town of casnan searching for clues to his identity. Joined by a thief who claims to have known him, the young adventurer helps rescue doomed miners from a collapse - An act which attracts the attention of the romun army General in town. Impressed with their skills, the pair is enlisted to explore the sea of trees and map the vast expanses of celceta - a task which many have attempted in the past, but from which none have ever returned alive. Alone in this strange and Uncharted frontier, Adel must brave the perilous forest as he struggles to regain his memories and decide whom he can trust, and who is simply attempting to take advantage of his memory loss in order to deceive him. @David Smith ....that review is next heh heh
Ys 8 is great, but honestly my favorite Ys games are Oath in Felghana and Origins. The gameplay there is just perfectly balanced and refined.
Falcom games are pretty great! You should give the trails game a shot too! ( Trails in the Sky is the best entry point )
Me and my husband LOVE your channel! A jrpg queen??? A godsend. We marathon all your vids all the time! Thanks for the consistently great content!!!♥️
Oh my gosh thank you!! This comment made my day! I appreciate the love and support so much!!!
I love the energy and depth that you bring to your reviews! It's super refreshing. I always feel that I have a good sense of whether a game is right or not for me after your reviews - all with incredible style. Keep rocking those colours because you own it!
There is a full fan translation of Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys. English dub and all which I thought was pretty cool, and very well done. It's amazing what a fan community can accomplish.
This is "Ys-ily" the best review of Ys MoC
I love Memories of Celceta. Actually Ys ia a great séries and i cannot remember a single bad game. Great video. Bye.
5 is not very good. Can't say it's terrible per se, but it's mediocre at best. When you combine that with the really awfully timed pivot to SNES development just as the Playstation was coming out it's no wonder 5 tanked the Ys series completely for almost a decade.
@@gaspump Dude, I loved Ys V... Enough that I reviewed it. To each his own, I suppose. The magic was pretty useless, I'll admit.
Bye, lol.
@@gaspump 5 was just ok I have played them all and my favs are 8 celceta and 6
You know I can't even hate on that 'Ysily' joke because that's one that never would have even occurred to me ha.
I absolutely love this series and I’m so happy you enjoyed your time with this game. Your final thoughts on the story and JRPG stories overall couldn’t have been more well said, amazing review as always!
I'm so glad that you're covering Falcom's fist big franchise. Legends of Heroes is great, but I always preferred Ys.
You did hit the nail in the coffin. The overarching plot threads across the entire series mostly dances in the background of each game's narrative, so here's hoping you continue your journey with Ys and eventually piece them all together.
Actually! Legend of Heroes is a subseries of the Dragon Slayer series which is older than Ys. Dragon Slayer is their first big franchise.
Love the video, as always I appreciate your reviews and honesty!
I’d also like to add, there’s no cool down on the dodging, and it is incredibly fun to use that move everywhere. I used it literally every place I could for traveling fast
After Ys 8 I will say I can appreciate this lighter story a little better xD
So happy to see you getting into a Falcom game! I really hope you give the Trails series a chance one day.
You're a busy woman with a large backlog of games from what I hear on the podcast. I would suggest starting with Trails of Cold Steel BUT between 2 and 3 do your homework and watch some of your peers let's plays and/or story recaps unless you get the urge to back and play the first two arcs of games that come before Steel. It's what I did and the big moments that they've been building up to in 3 and 4 haven't been lost on me. On the other hand, you appear to love oldschool JRPGs so I can easily see you going back and playing the first two arcs and enjoying them, but alas, time is a scarce resource!
Anywho, all that to say, great video Lady Pelvic and thanks for the wonderful content. 🙂
Ys music is so good!! And all the soundtracks are on Spotify 🙏 Great vid!
By the way, if you like this style of game Ys VIII is a straight upgrade in every way, imo
Honestly the other content is me watching to see what hairstyle she come up with I'm loving that I think her hair is amazing
This was really great. It's nice to watch a review that's in depth but doesn't take itself too seriously or linger on making lame jokes all the time. It's also just great to see Ys get more love and attention
Wow! I was unfamiliar with your channel, but have gotten into the Ys series recently and came across this video. Very happy I did. What a great content creator you are :) The narrative flowed nicely, you have a natural energy, and I can tell how passionate you are about games! (And you're adorable!) Nice job :)
Ys Memories of Celceta is a great game, loved the review
The music though 😎👍
I'm so glad you have discovered the Ys series. yes! combat has always been a huge focus and while the story is never groundbreaking its always just good enough to keep you interested. I tell people this Ys is 'turn your brain off" zelda. that and the running gags are hilarious! Dogi the wall breaker!
Your favorite town theme in Celceta reminds me of Breath of Fire 3/4 town themes for some reason.
You're going to love Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana.
Hopefully you’ll be able to review the legend of heroes series
Oh girl now i wanna play this game! Only finished 3 wanderers from Ys. Doesn't seem to be that hard. That gameplay and music is enough for me!
I've been on the fence for this game for however long the PS4 version has been out, and watching this finally made me get and I regret nothing... except water combat.... but anyways thank you so much for this!
There was also going to be a Sega CD version of Ys IV, but it didn’t get far in development before it was cancelled. It would be interesting to see how different it would’ve been to the other two versions.
Finally, a review of this game that isn't scathing. I think this game has invoked more ire than it deserves... mostly by people who played the originals. Well, thankfully, I have never played the original two Ys IVs so my perception of this game wasn't colored going into it. This is probably the most accurate review for this game I have come across.
I love your energy and your reviews. You're amazing
Great review, finally someone gave this game the RESPECT it deserves! Ys MoC was my 1st Ys game ever, 1st Falcom game & what made me fall in love with the IP. Now I'm playing Ys7, after that I will get Ys 8 & I'm waiting for a discount on Ys Origins.
MoC is an amazing game, the combat is 1 of the best systems in any game I played, coupled with Zelda like exploration, brilliant music & good story makes Ys MoC one of the best RPGs I played! Ys made me get into Trails of Cold Steel & while I like Trails, Ys is my main love from Falcom.
Awesome review! I’ll be subscribing for sure.
YES YS LOVE!
The music in Ys is so goooood
Great review! Seems like the game has a lot of similarities to Ys 8, which I think you would also like. Looking forward to hearing your impressions of that game.
Greeeeeaaaat point about the storytelling. Sometimes a simple story well told is superior than a needlessly complex one with a glut of dialogue.
YES!!! Tales of Graces F...love it!
Was on the fence with Ys memories of Celceta but this review helped me see its a worth while investment. I was thinking it being a vita game ment it was lacking enough features or maybe outdated for the PS4 not meantion not hearing enough praises like VIII lacrimosa of Dana it would be a bad game but thankfully this review changed my mind.
I highly recommend Ys Origin... It just got rereleased on Switch actually and it's on PS4. Absolutely addictive combat... So amazing. Then check out Ys V, if you are into imports... I actually reviewed it on my channel. I had a TON of fun with that one. Ys VIII is REALLY good too! Great review, this is an awesome game in the series!!!
This game was the reason I bought a Vita. I enjoyed it, but enjoyed the earlier Ys games more.
Your reviews are awesome! I'm a big fan of the ys series by the way
I'm glad you liked Memories of Celceta and welcome to the YS fan club Pelvic. I'm sure others have already recommended others in the series, so let me do the same. Ys 8 is the best yet, but Ark of Napishtim, Oath in Felghana, and Ys 7 are all top notch as well.
Great review! I’m glad to see you finally found a fun JRPG that you really enjoy. After your last review and your closing statements on it, I didn’t think I’d see a video from you till next year. Really happy to see you back so soon and found a game you really liked. Hope this trend continues for you. Now I have to pick this game up.
Oh! Well actually I made my Ys MoC and Ys 8 vids BEFORE my PE2 video! Celceta was fun, Ys8 ....eh...It keeps going up and down. Currently I'm working on my FFIV video and following that will be Trials of Mana Remake!
@@PelvicGaming I really am looking forward to your Ys8 review! I haven’t played it yet, but I’ve heard so much good about it. I want to hear your story. Haven’t heard much negative on it honestly.
very good review
NIce to see you jump into Ys and experience what makes falcom great now its time to experience Trails , I enjoyed MOC and its def in mt top 5 ys games
I finished ys 1 and 2 and they were a chore for me and outdated, I'm currently playing Oath in Felghana and I love it
This was a great review I’m glad I found myself a copy of this game! New to the Y’s universe
when they say the story isn't great it's because most people are comparing Ys with legend of heroes, (Trails series in particular). And to be honest, Celeceta isn't the highlight of the Ys series either when it comes to story. Origin and Napishtim do a better job at that, but yes, Ys has always been great at world building as you mentioned... well until Ys 8 came out that is.
"Memories of Celceta with more focus on story" is pretty much a description of the prior Ys SEVEN and especially the subsequent Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana, whose plot is arguably a seriously expanded version of Memories of Celceta's, at least in the broad strokes.
Also, for what it's worth, I think Ozma let's you use his normal combo even while sending, which makes sense considering that he spent so much of his life on the water. And I think that this game was originally designed for the PSP since the Vita could handle much more graphically impressive games (like the aforementioned Ys 8), and MoC looks like it would be only moderately more demanding than the previously PSP-exclusive Ys SEVEN.
The music in Ys: Memories of Celceta is my second favorite in the Ys series, number 1 favorite ost in the Ys series is Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana.
Great review, thanks!
This is Ys'ly one of my favorite videos you've done. Good job once again!
I don't have any witty comments right now so I'll just say Celceta is such a funny word.
Just to add in, there was another version of Ys IV, a 3D remake of Mask of the Sun for PS2 by Taito, but it only ever released in Japan, and hasn't gotten any fan translation afaik.
This series is all uphill from here.
Origins and Oath in Felghana might lack polish (due to being older), but are among the best ones. 7 is fun, but 8 is the top tier.
Enjoy!
The Falcom sound team is the shit and the Ys VIII theme song is my PS4 menu music
Good to know that you consider the Vita version the definitive version ;) Love that combat too. It's the reason one can pick up an Ys game and forget about time.
Blue tape all over the place on those posters, rock and roll as phuck
Its how we do
Glad you enjoyed Ys. You were do for a fun game.
Hopefully you can play my two favorites in the series.
Oath in felghana and Ys 8
Great review :) I’ve tried the game before on the Vita but it kinda lost me. Maybe all this action needs a bigger screen? I think I’ll give it another try on PC!
Now, I want to pick this up at GOG even more! The Ys titles are great, even when it's an older one and you're stuck with that bump system. I haven't played the TurboGrafx-16 version, but the SNES version was pretty rough from what little I remember. I'd love to see a remake of 5, though; it is the quintessential 5/10 game, so while it was very playable, it could use a little sprucing up.
You’re in for a treat if you play Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys on the TurboGrafx-CD! It’s a lot better than Mask of the Sun for the SNES.
The older Ys music is so freaking god tier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend checking out the entire series if you're up for it. Also if you like a tower crawler with also amazing music, check out Ys Origin.
Digging the purple
yup this game sold me on the Ys games and Y's is always that game i always pull up while looking for yugioh games
2 question. Can you change your difficulty anytime? Regarding voice acting ( mainly dub and During story/side quests dialog) how often is it in the PS4 version?
You are going to loooooveee Y's VIII all the positives you said for this are in there and all the negatives are fixed. The battle system is soooo good and I'm not a huge action rpg lover (loves me some turn-base). The exploration is also amazing with a beautiful island and awesome landmarks to find. Best action rpg I have played in years.
Oh no...just wait till the review comes out
@@PelvicGaming lol Hope you love it! One of the only games I 100% finished too. I usually just do story and sidestep all the fetch and sidequesty stuffs.
Great review again. Have to try this out. My only ys game i played is VIII lacrimosa of Dana ... Pls try that also i loved that.
That will be my next review
@@PelvicGaming aah great dont think you will be dissapointed :-)
Oh boy....lol
watching this really made me wanne replay Ys 8. I really loved 8 and i need to play the other titles
You model? You should. You could also be a hand model very elegant.
Pelvic: What's up lovelies!
Me: What's up that hair poppin!
Also I loved the review.
On 2:06, I'm not surprised that you were going to make that pun. 😐
Interested in seeing how you'll feel about YS VIII. Hopefully the overhype didn't ruin your experience too much but I know for a lot people that's usually what happens. Personally don't think there's a bad Ys game from 2003 onward.
Hey lady Pelvic! I really enjoy your reviews. You should check out Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen by Square Enix
The Ys IV Turbo Grafx fan translation version is way better. It's good to see you still played Ys after Celceta. Celceta is not one I would recommend.
If you like this, you are gonna love Oath in Falgana.
Funny, that seems to be the least liked in my discord!
@@PelvicGaming If it's the original version I can understand why, if it's the PSP remake then that's another story.
@@PelvicGaming Different strokes for different folks, it seems. Between the Bump System (1&2), Napishtim style (Napishtim, Felghana, Origin) and Seven style (Seven, Celceta, Dana), there's something there for everyone.
its in sale for PS4 store 17.00 just got it and its my new favorite action rpg
YOOOOO LOVE TO HEAR IT
My favorite series
Ohhh I really
Hope you do the legend of heroes trails in the sky series 🤭
Not anytime soon unfortunately. XP
I tried Ys 3 on snes after seeing John from Happygamingconsole. I do not like it. I gave up because it's not my type of game. Later on I order Ys origin. It's a precursor to all Ys games to know why it happens. I love it. It's mostly digital but there is a Limited Run physical copy which will cost $$$. I saw Ys Celceta cheaply for $20 on ps4 at Best buy and I bought it right away. I haven't opened it yet.
Adore this game. Love it to bits. But I am SO GLAD you mentioned how bad the water combat is! Argh! Why??
For me that is the games glaring shortcoming. Aside from that everything was stupid fun!
i haven't played ys: memories of celceta but ys viii is to me the best in series.
I was shocked 10 mintues ago when I saw it on Xbox Gamespass
Dang, it's a shame they didn't just reuse that Super Famicon boxart because like, THAT looks like there's an interesting game inside! That's always been my problem with Ys, Legend of Heroes, and Tales of. They just LOOK so boring and basic. Are they good? Maybe, but I don't want to spend 80 hours to find out if they can't even put in the care to make their characters look like they aren't from any generic nameless 2010's anime.
Anyways, with that said, good review! Maybe i WILL finally give this series a chance lol.
U love Tales of Graces F! 😮 why cant i meet people like you in real life 😩
This is a top 3 hair day homie.
Great review, if this comes to the switch, I'm only gonna get it because of your review, there were pros and cons about YS8 and YS origins is on the Switch but I heard its a dungeon crawler, I cannot stand RPG dungeon crawlers, i like my rpgs where I can go city to city and roam around an open world map lol
Gonna join a number of other commenters in saying if you're dipping your toes into Falcom games, you have got to check out Trails in the Sky :)
I feel like you'll really like Ys VIII. It's like this game but prettier, one of the best soundtracks in the series, and you can jump too.
Time to return to it. GoG version.
Funny enough I actually have the game but I gotta find the time to play it considering my backlog of games lol Loved the review though 🙏 I've heard the Ys games have really good music so I'm glad you highlighted that for this one 🙌
No.1 waifu
Omg your so beautiful your such a unicorn(dream girl), thank you for this review! Yes I simp any day for lady pelvic
I pronounce Ys as Y.S this whole time., instead of Yis 🤣🤣🤣
it's pronounced like ēes, but until you hear it said like that it's impossible to know.
Only thing about the Y’s games is they are one in the same story wise. So when I play one, I need to give myself years before I play another one because it becomes a blur otherwise 🤷🏻♂️
You should play Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana
I did, that is my next review
@@PelvicGaming nice 🙂
i'm not going to pretend i knew for sure how to pronounce this series
I didn't know until recently either lol
I used to call it Y S as a kid until I got the turbo cd version than I felt really dumb.
That's what its called!?
I never played the Ys 4 games due to them being Japan only releases, but Memories of Celceta is actually one of my least favorite Ys games. It's not bad, but Ys has better entries. This coming from a longtime Ys fan that had 1-3 on the Turbografx-16 CD which was years ahead of other games in its soundtracks in the early 90's and even had cutscenes and voice acting before that was standard.
"My first Ys game..."
...one of us, one of us, one of us...
Lol not quite yet. ;P
Flash guard broken
Celceta definately has the weakest standalone story in the series but I do think its "fine" and it connects to a number of the different games (its fun how the ys games are mostly standalone but once I played ys6 something clicked and I was like "ITS ALL CONNECTED")
If you want a more story focus's ys game 8 is definately where I would go after celceta
Theres also technically a version of Ys 4 on the PS2 as the company taito made remakes of ys's 1 through 5 but ... they're not great
>sees under water controls menu
Nooooo! It was a good game until now. Looking at you DMC. Lol
It's crazy when JRPGs get unfaithful remakes of games that they don't have nostalgia for it's not an issue...but y'all ain't ready for that conversion.
way too Ys'y
