Bill Mitchell is the philandering and distant President of the United States. Dave Kovic is a sweet-natured and caring Temp Agency operator, who by a staggering coincidence looks exactly like the President. As such, when Mitchell wants to escape an official luncheon, the Secret Service hires Dave to stand in for him. Unfortunately, Mitchell suffers a severe stroke whilst having sex with one of his aides, and Dave finds himself stuck in the role indefinitely. The corrupt and manipulative Chief of Staff, Bob Alexander, plans to use Dave to elevate himself to the White House - but unfortunately, he doesn't count on Dave enjoying himself in office, using his luck to make the country a better place, and falling in love with the beautiful First Lady...

I remember when my parents rented this from blockbuster way back in '93. We loved it.
This is a fun, entertaining, carefree movie to watch. I'm from Australia, this is a kind of movie that can be enjoyed by all, Hollywood don't make movies as good as these nowadays. Highly recommended.

"Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and "Dave" will forever be my favorite American political films of all time.
Just wish America still had senators like Mr. Washington and presidents like Dave.
My favorite film - EVER! I just watched it again for the umteenth time. Kevin Kline and and Frank Langella are amazing in their roles. Yet the movie makes me sad in that there can never be a president like Dave Kovic. The fiasco called the American political arena eats people like him up.
Frank is a bloody marvel in this movie! When you can hate one of the nicest men in the business the way he makes you hate him, was a stroke of genius from Ivan.
I used to lie back in bed listening to him narrate history docco's. His voice is so soothing.

I was working in a movie theater in 1988 when "Moon Over Parador" was playing. It's the same movie, except it's a Caribbean dictator. Richard Dreyfuss was the President and "the President," Sonia Braga the mistress who stood in as First Lady, and Raul Julia as the power behind the throne who realized he wasn't in control of the puppet of as much as he originally thought.

I like to watch this every Election Day. Watching the returns come in especially during presidential election years just makes my blood pressure spike, so it's not worth it. This is nice and relaxing.

Frank Langella deserved an Oscar for that role.
And Kevin Cline was great as always.❤.
Langella later played Nixon in "Frost/Nixon." He played Perry White in "Superman Returns," but, given what we now know about Kevin Spacey, Langella should have played Lex Luthor.
Frank Langella was so good in 5 to 7 and Lolita and The Americans. Such a versatile actor.
