    A-list actor Robert Pattinson is perhaps still best known for his portrayal of teenage vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga which turned him into an overnight teen heartthrob. Although he could’ve easily been written off as “the guy from Twilight”, his work since then has been completely unpredictable. Instead of bankable familiar roles, Rob has churned out a number of strange and captivating performances over the past decade in independent, art-house films. And now his career is about to take another dramatic turn with the announcement that he’s going to play the next Batman.

    • @laraschiwago9928
      @laraschiwago9928 Před 3 lety +141

      Absolutely. They are so much alike in so many ways.
      Similar career paths (from popular Teenie movies, rom coms and Blockbusters to indie and arthouse or just weird productions/challenging roles), similar acting styles (both are not method actors, both are extremely dedicated to their roles), both extremely versatile (and intense) actors, both are extremely talented and interested in other arts than acting (Heath was into photography and film making, Rob is an excellent singer/musician), both have very supportive and loving families (and in Rob's case also longtime friends) and their personalities are so much alike too.
      Like you said: both are so insecure, always doubting themselves, both are introverts (and quite shy at times), both are very humble, extremely friendly and nice, very charming (without trying to be), dedicated to their roles and acting as an art. They are very private people (with a deep aversion to the press - that made their lives hell at times), Rob hates too much attention and has quite an aversion to fame in general - and so did Heath. They never thought about themselves as being someone "special" (although they have both that special "something", charisma). Both don't really fit into the usual Hollywood crowd.
      And last but not least: both remained very "normal", authentic, genuine, down-to-earth people (not behaving like celebs in general), they didn't change, they remained the exact same persons they were before they became famous and were so insanely successful.
      I will never forget all these normal people from Heath's NYC neighbourhood who had so many (and only nice) stories to tell about him (nobody said a bad word about him) and who were genuinely shocked and sad when he died. Everyone seemed to like him (Heath as a person, not as a celeb) - very much so.
      (When I first came to NYC I went to his apartment a few months after his death, just to light a candle and put some flowers there. When I arrived there.... There were a lot of new candles and fresh flowers there, people still went to his apartment months after his death in order to remember him and to express their condolences.)
      Rob's the same. He's has no airs and graces, no ego. Although Rob has social anxiety (and body dysorphia) he lives quite a wholesome (and healthy) life, has a great family and friends, he isn't a troublemaker or into drugs. He learned to deal with his anxiety, not letting it take control.
      Unfortunately poor Heath had to battle more severe mental health problems - depression and insomnia. Until this day I still don't understand how the only thing his doctors did, the only help they gave him, was prescribing him pills, not even checking what other stuff he got prescribed from other doctors. The most tragic thing is that his death really was preventable. That this amazing actor and likeable person could still be alive.
      Honestly, a few times I thought about how effing incredible it would be if Rob and Heath - these insanely gifted and outstanding actors - could both be in one movie together. Can you imagine Rob as Batman and Heath as Joker in a movie together? World domination, a perfect match - just epic...

    Rob questioned the logic of Twilight six months before the first film was released. He thought it was dumb that they went to high school, etc. Here's a story not many know. He was sent the script for Twilight six months before he auditioned but he wasn't interested. Then he got a tax bill for $25,000 from his HP4 salary, and he had spent all that money. He was broke and in debt and suddenly maybe that Twilight audition might be a good idea. He flew to LA and slept on his agent's sofa. She set up 3 auditions for him that week and he would have taken anything that was offered at the time.
    He aced the Twilight audition and the rest is history. He made up some stories in 2008 about why he had auditioned because he was too embarrassed to admit that he had been broke and in debt, and he didn't tell the whole truth until 2017. Back in 2008 he did admit he didn't have money for a hotel and had to stay with his agent, though. He just never said any more than that.

After Potter, he spent the money he earned with friends and Rob always dreamed of being a musician. His career oddly mirrors that of the story of Batman. A pretty boy who encountered a misfortune at a young age (Twilight) is left broken but rich, chooses to leave his place of comfort and learn to hone his powers in an unfamiliar environment (His Arthouse career). He returns years later ready to use these powers for good. The necessary culmination of this story is Pattinson being a great Batman

    His acting in the king was truly amazing. His character comes off as this comedic French bully who just wants to get under king Henry’s skin but in certain scenes I actually felt a sense of intimidation and genuine fear from his character until the very end when you realize there’s actually nothing truly intimidating about him just a guy who just wants to defend his country and and was brought up to war when he knew damn well his country didn’t even start it. Roberts acting truly shined in that film.

    "Everyone's supposed to be an 'activist' or whatever as an actor. But I didn't become an actor to be a politician, I became an actor to do interesting movies."
    I love this quote, because Rob *gets* it. He gets the fact that most people *don't* want to be preached at and told what to think or how to feel. He understands (and wants other people to understand) that he's just a human being. He comes off like the *least* 'celebrity-like" celebrity, because he seems to just want to do his job and at the end of the day go on about his life, until the next opportunity comes along.
    I also like the fact that he seems to thrive off of people's lowered expectations of him, because he's sure been proving them wrong with his work the last nine years. He's *earned* the role of Batman, and I hope he crushes it so he can continue to prove his detractors wrong. And if the teaser trailer is the little bit we have to go by so far, he's well on his way.

If I were in his shoes, there is not many things that I would have done differently. They mention the Barnes Theater Club early on in this episode- I went there twice for a 24 hours actathon where everyone improvised drama until they ran out of energy. Holy crap, I cannot believe that Pattinson used to go there. I'm now a practising artist photographer living in Berlin but the idea of social media freaks me out. I hate it. I viewmyself as a gifted toddler playing with crayons- i just want to do what comes naturally to me, I don't want to sacrifice my authenticity/ originality by taking part in the same social media that everyone else is climbing over each other to make a success of.
