It is not so bad as people say...of course the original is much better, but the two versions have a completely different mood and purpose. George Michael's version was very romantic, heart breaking and was intented to show case his unique voice. This version is more relaxed, up beat, breezy, more fun pop and it is definitely not supported by string vocals. I find it ok
Look, the Bananarama women were only as good as background singers. I love a bunch of Bananarama songs, but they assuredly do not have the vocal chops to deal with this song.
I don't mind them and they were friends of George, but the production is just so awful. No heart at all. It was the sound of chart music at the time, but wish they'd recognised that in comparison to their previous releases.
I love Bananarama but this is easily their worst single EVER. It’s bad enough it was even recorded at all, but whoever decided it should’ve been the one and only single from this album was surely trying to sabotage any success it could’ve had. 😤
