- With 416 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft), it's the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine straight from the factory to be installed in a road car.
Expect to see it in all future Mercedes-AMG "45 S" models. The regular "45" cars will have 382 hp and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft).

The problem is, decades ago Mitsubishi Evo 6 engines produced more power per litre than this silly engine.

Mercedes-AMG's M139 4-cylinder is one of my most favourite engines. I'm just amazed how they managed to extract 310kW from a _four cylinder._
Its not impossible this day, some backyard mechanic can make thousand horse from 4 cylinder too but the reliability can be questionable.

@@dylanoppeneer2354 - A transport company I worked in in the 70s had two Mercedes in the car park, both 1113 (11 tonnes 130 horses). Both had gone over a million kilometers, both had changed clutch once, and overhauled the nozzles otherwise they had only got new oil and filters. The cars were not so big, so they were used when we had work for the telephone company (Televerket in Norwegian). They stored equipment in an old tunnel, and the Mercedes had the right height. They were both well -kept and approved when I quit there.
I watched a video of a Bently engine being assembled that was informative and fascinating. They actually showed the process. This video seems obsessed with the guy in black.

Ive built two engine(back to stock) down to the rings and main bearings. I know there are still secrets to going fast. Also mean manufacturing secrets, too.

Clearly only wanted to portray artistic camera work rather than showing the engines production. Obviously, they didn't want to show some aspects of the engine but fcuk I found it very frustrating to watch.

This was really boring. It wasn''t even a small..minute chance to see something interesting. Man is here only to push the trolley. This was really good anti-advertisement for AMG if you ask me, not to mention half of time camera is on guys face, body... totally unbelievable.
You didn't see the entire shop and assy operation as interesting? Compared to how I build an eng in my garage this was like comparing homeless in the street to the Bibles version of Heaven. I think there is more dirt in my main galley than in that entire shop. And those tools! It's like I mentioned; Heaven...
I agree there was way too much time on the guy, but I was thinking they're catering to females who, inversely, could care less about what I saw. Just as we could care less about haute couture, but the models are worth a look...

I hope Mercedes has this figured out. The boost pressure must be enormous. I’m curious how this motor will perform on the track. Normally head gaskets are the first item to fail.

I’m not sure, but I think belts are more efficient. Lower mass, less moving parts.

Thank goodness they didn't design this engine with restrictive intergrated exhaust manifold cylinder head. More higher rpm flow and upgrade capabilities.

I would do anything to get the CLA 45s AMG cause I love this car...but now your gonna have to go out and tune it yourself so it has the same hp and the European counterparts without a warranty (mainly cause this engine is still under a lot of stress and you don't know what issues with it may arise if you do tune it)....like come on

i may hate Mercedes for mechanical and electrical reasons, but i will admit that they get results, now if the only had this hooked up to a hybrid power-train.

Good video but a word of advice....there were way too many cuts and camera movement. This video would have been much better if there was less movement in the shots or just less cuts overall.

Belt driven oil pump?!?!?!?! Hmmm. Dunno about that. Cool engine, factory, technology in the factory but dang, it ain't the space shuttle. Techs at the dealer will have those engines open working on them while smoking a cig and eating a taco for lunch.

Woulda been really nice to have a voiceover explaining exactly what was happening, Instead of bragging for 20 minutes about how quiet it is.
Pretty sure when the camera's aren't rolling and upper management has had a few jagermeister's at lunch, there's probably some type of German elevator music. Research shows that workers are more productive workers when there's music in the background. I don't see German management not following up to increase morale, production and better health through less stress.

The cameraman/woman was probably more fond of his/her own personality and "creative tricks" rather than making engines. Even amateur "howto" videos are less annoying in this regard. The people show the process, and the camera does not always move around having various objects occlude the main process being filmed. Really bad cameraman job.

They're finally catching up to tuners
Most tuners only have to worry about reliability for a year. And that’s only some. Most tuners don’t warranty at all. The original manufacturer has to worry about warrantied reliability for 3-5 years and then another 5 years for their own reputation.
Plus they know they need to have some safety buffer for tuners to mess around with their sht and not completely fk up the engine when owners still bring it back to the dealer for service.
Also most tuners don’t do anything special. They just sell canned tunes and other peoples products.
Waisoserious also the parts have to be cheap enough to put into production like steal and aluminum. Forget titanium conrods and ceramics.
AMG used to be a Mercedes tuner when they originally started. And no tuner (even RENNtech and Weistech) can match the factory warranty.
I just wanted to hear the engine. Didn't even get that, although I skipped a lot because I didn't need gratuitous camera work of watching a guy and some robots assemble the engine.

I think they know that adding an EQ hybrid system adds WEIGHT to the car, especially if it’s a compact.
It will be on the new A45S and probably on the CLA, A Sedan, GLA, and GLB as well.

But it's it the best way to deliver 416 hp and 369 lb/ft? It is efficient? Will it deliver the best performance for each liter of fuel used in the task world? I suppose it an achievement regardless, But who cares about hp liter. If an engine delivered the same output and did it using 20% less fuel and 3 liters wouldn't that be better. I just think it is a silly metric for the days we live in.

Those conrods bends Nader pressure, their saving on costs, they don’t use Hbeam rods, go check out all M156 and M 157 rod bent problems, soft camshaft materials.
