Well... Actually, the band is inspirated by the Lovecraft's stories. "Dreams in the Witchouse" is one of is novel, and Arkham is a fictive town that often appear in his stories. If you talk about the same movie I think, it is an adaptation of the Lovecraft's novel and is out no more than 6 years ego. This song is from 1999.
I don't know too much about Nuit Noire since I didn't really liked there side on this split, so I never really looked further. However, what I heard say is that the demos just after the split with Arkham were far better, but they later changed there style and it's less black metal now, and probably less serious as you say.
You obviously haven't heard emoviolence before. Emoviolence isn't like emo kid music. Its hardcore from the 90's. It is a little more intense then black metal, more like grindcore (but as I said before its hardcore, not metal). Search up Orchid- Aesthetic Dialectic or Takaru - Cowardly Feeding Silence.
