- In this video we take a look at Public Health - the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts of society. Public health focuses on improving the health of a population and preventing health problems before they happen. It is a broad field and covers a range of topics such as air pollution, epidemiology, communicable disease control, risk assessment and health promotion. We’ll take a look at what public health is, how it is different to clinical medicine, who is responsible for doing it and how it’s done!

@@vishnushetty6910 Many colleges offer a public health certificate (requires taking just a few classes) as well as full Bachelor and Master degree programs - BSPH (Bachelor in Science of Public Health) and a Masters in Public Health (MPH). It's a very rewarding field to be in!

Public health is very important in developing countries like Papua New Guinea where doctors are less accessible in rural areas. I also belief and have seen that a professionally trained medical persons knowledge is useless when a person is dying of a preventable disease like typhoid. Promotion, prevention,and protection is more important than fancy drug and sophisticated doctors. Thanks for the vedio.

My condolences to you're students. Still, it's not too late for them to get out of public health and get real jobs instead of becoming worthless welfare queens living off the taxpayer. I have no involvement with this topic… and just randomly stumbled upon this video in early 2023.
We have been dealing with Covid, and reactions to public health initiatives for the last three years. Looking back over these events… it is a bit peculiar that public health has become so vilified…. Despite its incredible public service record of success.
Blame the right wing for that. Their primary philosophy is privatisation, deregulation and cost cutting. They are not interested in broad public benefit, only private sector competition and commodifying health for profit.
The Left wants taxes to pay for broader public benefit. The Left believes in a collective approach and government intervention, because this is a society-wide multi-facilited and complicated area that needs a broad approach and that they know better.
The right believes in the individual's choice and rights. You get what you pay for and that's it. If you cant afford it, tough luck. If you don't like it, they can't make you. The government should never be involved and broader public benefit impedes individual freedom and individual choices. The market knows best and government = oppression.
Those are the 2 opposing philosophies.
It's no wonder all the vaccine sceptics, conspiracy theorists and anti-Covid lockdown people vote right wing (Trump, Tory, nationalist etc).
Because they simply don't want to help other people, only themselves and they'll invent all sorts of conspiracies to delude themselves into thinking they are being oppressed instead of realising Public Health has a proven record of success (like you say) and that they should do their bit to help other people.
These people are just selfish.

If you are talking about getting an undergraduate degree in PH then it is not easy nor is it hard. It really depends on you as an individual. If you enjoy learning about PH policies and prevention and programing, then you'll enjoy it! It teaches a lot about disparities in healthcare and you will be working with groups hands-on in your upper-level courses regarding public health programming and research!
