- Berlin is a city along the Androscoggin River in Coös County in northern New Hampshire, United States. It is the northernmost city in New Hampshire. It includes the village of Cascade in the south part of the city. Located in New Hampshire's Great North Woods Region, Berlin sits at the edge of the White Mountains, and the city's boundaries extend into the White Mountain National Forest. Berlin is home to the Berlin and Coos County Historical Society's Moffett House Museum & Genealogy Center, Service Credit Union Heritage Park, the Berlin Fish Hatchery, and the White Mountains Community College. Berlin is the principal city of the Berlin Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Coos County, New Hampshire and Essex County, Vermont. Because Quebec is less than 60 miles away, Berlin has many people of French Canadian descent in its population. Around 65% of its residents speak a variant of New England French, which is known locally as "Berlin French".
Every time I drive down to my hometown of Boston to visit my parents and old friends for more than 2 weeks I always end up missing Berlin Nh. Waking up to look at the mountains and an overhead view of the town from my bedroom window is my favorite thing to do when I wake up and before going to bed not the mention the sunrise/sundown is so beautiful. Been here for almost a year now and omg it gets crazy cold up here in the winter. I’m considering turning the house I bought into an air b&b and moving to Florida. I’m not built for such cold climate. Surprisingly I have been seeing more and more colored folks out here so I don’t feel like an outcast but either way people are so friendly and treat me like a human being compared to Boston if I say hello, a person would look at me like I have 10 heads. So easy to fall in love with this place it definable feels like home even though I grew up in Boston since a child and moved out here at age 36 I feel more welcomed here than Boston. But on the topic of cold weather, there’s no such thing as cold weather just inadequate clothing
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. You’ve been helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
For a small town it looks well maintained and clean.
Love the Presentation and thanks for the info.🙂
Thanks for watching!
I cried so hard watching this. Thank you for sharing. I really needed to see what this dream looked like.
You are so welcome
My folks still live there , I left that place in 82 and don't regret it , I hate snow.
I lived there in the 90's and have very fond memories. How is it now, overall? Are there a lot of issues with crime, drugs, etc.?
I lived there from 1970 to 1975 we had to move because my mother wanted to live in NY.
No Stop Sign skills.
I live here. Great place.
The best!
I'm looking to get out of the south and move there. I kinda just want to get away for awhile. Wish I could go today!
Great video of the beautiful parts ❤️
The actual steepness and heights of the streets and area are not depicted as they truly are, but I loved it anyways
Thanks so much
My husband’s parents are buried there.
🤓👍👍👍👍
I'm natively from Nashua, NH, which borders Massachusetts. We get a lot of people coming in and out from Boston, so I'm used to living in a more populated, well developed area with neighboring towns and cities as a result of blossoming business. I've also lived on my own in Cleveland, OH and the aforementioned also applies. My line of work requires a lot of social networking, so the idea of living in areas like Keene or Berlin, NH makes me REALLY unsettled. Just something about the idea of living in a city in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains and pine trees just makes me feel claustrophobic and trapped. I know the same can be said about Cleveland, once you leave Cuyahoga county, it's nothing but open expanse. But at least you feel open and free, seeing corn fields for miles. In my opinion, as I've traveled north of Lake Winnipesaukee a couple times, seeing unkept property and a lack of arts, diversity (especially in contrast to MA, especially with OH being an even bigger melting pot), communication, and culture, makes me feel depressed and isolated. I think I'll also stick to getting 12 inches of snow versus 40+ feet of snow. XD
Great video! I have a boat and would love to take lake videos of your quality. What camera should I buy, please? What did you use here? Thanks for sharing this!!
Go for it!
I was looking at properties in this area lately.. I'm wondering if it' would be a good place to have as a retreat in the U.S as a semi retirement place.
Been British, it's more common to head to Spain, France etc but the U.S feels appealing. Or would been English living in these kinds of places, be just too odd 🤔
lived there for nine years and while i was living there i wished i was anywhere else. turns out when i left i missed it more than anything. it was such an amazing place
You'd be crazy to come here to US. You are much more safe living in England.
