    I noticed a trend in my snowfoam comparisons that generally the thinner ones cleaned better so it’s interesting your test with different products also followed that pattern 🤔 does make them hard to compare though because I also like a long dwell time. nice to see them all in action though and prove they all do work 👍🏼

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      I have no doubt that at 4% PIR the infinity wax and wax planet would have cleaned as good as the auto foam but there just unusable at those dilutions. I’m the same as you I like a long dwell but if I’m in a rush and it’s a quick wash it’s the auto foam all day long

    Great Video Dave, for me its allways going to be auto foam. I know a lot of people love a thick foam but i hate having to clean up the drive after im done.

      Thankyou mate. i switch it up on the day normally depending on how dirty the car is and how warm it is.

    This has certainly been a fascinating experiment Dave, from people making statements of ‘a snowfoam should be thick’ to others slating thinner ones and dismissing them but the most important fact remains , it’s the cleaning power that counts!!
    Also , side note, shows how points scoring can be very misleading as a product you find not to clean well, surely can’t win a test 😂😂

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      There are many ways to manipulate the result of the test in all honesty Graeme, I could have went more in depth for a different result if you would even call it a result 😂😂 I like to hope everyone can see that the best cleaner was Bh so if you want a good cleaner go BH if you want thick foam for insta go WP or IW 😂😂 based on that test.

    from a snow foam cynic like me, I found this really interesting Dave. Very fair evaluation and some impressive results. Im still looking for one that meets my expectations so may have to try the 8 below that has been sitting on my shelf for months. Well done mate👍

    • @DavidMcBay

      Thankyou Martin, on the whole the 8 below was the poorest cleaner but it’s really thick and cheapest, when I’ve used it in the past I’ve allways thought it done a good job cleaning, which it did but the others were that bit better.

    Another great video Dave, quite surprised by how well the ez car care did in the test as the few products of theirs I've got perform poorly, also quite shocked by how much BH auto foam you need to use for 4% pir.

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      Thankyou Paul, the BH does depend on a few different factors but if you want to know what you would need for your set up then have a look at a video Sparklean Autos done, probably the easiest way to calculate PIR ive seen. As for the EZ I was shocked myself, however there was no satisfaction in using it and had I been doing the whole car with it I would have been concerned with it drying out.

    My thoughts sit with the majority so far . A thinner foam which runs off and maybe doesn’t dwell as long cleans better, it that’s because it’s lifted and pulled the dirt away where as a thicker foam which sits around maybe breaking the dirt down in a slower rate yet doesn’t remove it from the panel

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety

      Yeah I agree with you on that one. Unfortunately a lot of people put such a high weighting of foam thickness for the gram. I do hope I made it clear that the 8 below was still the worst cleaner out of them all?

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Geoff, I was surprised by EZ myself but realistically on a warm day you would struggle to get round the car without it drying out based on how thin it went on. I’m very on the fence with foams, if I’m in a rush it’s auto foam all day if I want to take a bit more time then I’ll opt for the thicker foam. Really just depends how I feel on the day

  • @Wilkotronic
    @Wilkotronic Před 3 lety +1

    Decent video, broken down well and in an easy-to-understand approach.
    Personally, for me, I like that middle-ground between dwell time and cleaning power. That is where an excellent product stands out, for me.
    I found Detail Bug Ice Bug a brilliant product for my needs. Clings well for up to 10mins and cleaning power is up there with Autofoam, IMO. Price per wash is also very low, at a 10:1 dilution ratio.
    EZ Sub Zero is just too thin for me. It's not a nice product to use.

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah I have to admit I do like something a bit thicker than auto foam myself, I think powerfoam from infinity wax at around 15:1 would still clean very well but not be as thick.
      I’m yet to try the detail bug range so I’ll need to put that on the to buy list.
      The EZ I just couldn’t use on a regular basis, it’s far too thin and I’d have worries of it drying out on any area exposed to direct sun light.
      Thank you for taking the time to watch.

      Forgot to add this comment earlier.
      After watching this, it's made me think about using AF, I've always been put off using it, mainly due to the sheer quantity normally needed to achieve the golden 4% PIR, but now looking at it, i may have to invest as it for my winter foam.

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      Have a look at the touch less that BH have just brought out Dan, I’ve not used it but I have herd the cleaning power is better than Auto foam. The amount you need to use is similar to auto foam and at the cost of 5L it’s worth a try.

  • @SparkleanAutos
    @SparkleanAutos Před 3 lety +1

    Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe it's not, but it's definitely worth highlighting that the the thinner, 'runnier' foams appear to be much more effective at removing dirt! It's almost as if they're having a chemical reaction with the surface dirt rather than being thick, foamy and full of air - just sitting on the surface and seemingly doing little to aid in the cleaning process 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
    If foaming wasn't such a sought-after feature, I doubt 8 below would have scored as well in this particular test!

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah your correct there Mark, the thinner products with less dwell time certainly done better at cleaning. I could possibly have went a bit more in depth with the scoring which would have probably yielded different results. We all know how important foaming is to a lot of people in a snowfoam which is why I chose that particular category. But like I mentioned and I do hope it was clear that 8 below although came out on top due to cost and foam but was still the poorest cleaner.

    Heres a thought... Is the fact you tried to swipe at almost the same point actually the reason the second swabs were all less dirty? Cause you essentially cleaned it with the make up swab, then swabbed a almost clean section afterwards. You should have done a swipe above the body line before and a swipe below after, so similar section, and possibly dirtier being lower.
    Good intentions, but maybe flawed results? Good video though.

    • @DavidMcBay
      @DavidMcBay  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the comment Daniel, the intention was to swipe the dirtiest area of the car to try give a true reflection of cleaning. I did intentionally try to swipe in slightly different lines but I’ll need to watch the footage side by side to confirm. Possibly vertical swipes would have been better and I might take that into any tests of that nature I do in the future.

    @dandoesdetailing5709 Před 3 lety +1

    Just a thought for the people watching this, so please don't shoot me here.
    Do we all think that 8below and PF would perform better from a poorer producing lance say?
    What I mean is, to get 4% PIR the foam would be basically too thick and not useable if you used a high performance lance like the one shown or the MTM unit, but what about a cheap ebay jobbie etc.? This would in theory offer a higher PIR but without the same level of foam as a better lance would.
    Does that make sense? I hope it does, it does in my head 🤣.
