    I wasn’t overly keen on how that doctor was speaking as if that lovely father wasn’t there at all. He answered questions she put forward to him perfectly fine, there was no need to talk through or around him. It’s hard enough during a mental health breakdown to not feel invisible. The daughter could’ve chipped in if he was struggling, but unless the patient is very unwell with psychosis or dementia / Alzheimer’s where they aren’t capable of responding.. please talk directly to the patient. It’s important to understand how they’re feeling. I know the daughter was being so wonderful, but she isn’t in his mind. X

      No me neither, she was condescending, she spoke about him like he wasn’t there like you said and you never say to someone who is at a low point like that ‘He doesn’t talk much’ especially when she directed all her questions to his daughter and only a few utterances to him

      @2eleven48 Před 3 lety +1

      I agree to a certain extent, but how is a doctor able to address a patient when they are very much withdrawn and inarticulate, as shown here, and can only respond when the daughter speaks to them and on behalf of them? Each situation needs to be dealt with individually. You can't make that sweeping statement after watching just a few moments of a video.

      @@2eleven48 true but she could of directed the questions to him and not his daughter which she didn’t do

      Ummm.... "how is a doctor able to address a patient when they are very much withdrawn and inarticulate, as shown here?" Yes, in other circumstances where the person is able to respond, then, of course, any questions or conversation should be directed to that person by the doctor. But not in this case. Try to understand the distinction.

      @@2eleven48 She didn’t even try directing questions towards him though, he was probably more withdrawn because she was talking about him like he wasn’t even there

      @@Charlotte-hh4dr ....I was referring specifically to this man and it is clear that he will never recover his faculties; it will just be a decline into something far more serious and deleterious. As to mental health in general, may I point out that: "A total of 70.9 million prescriptions for antidepressants were dispensed in England in 2018" (NHS). That was purely related to anxiety and depression. I can provide you with other alarming figures related to severe mental disorders if you want. I can also offer my very long history of depression, and experiencing the truly horrible descent into dementia that my mother underwent. In short, I was not being negative, but aware of how things, sadly, can exist. Glibly wishing someone to 'get better soon'!' shows a sympathy, but hardly an insight. Robert, UK.
