This 9MM 17-round gem has a textured grip angled like a 1911 grip to give you greater control. With a patent-pending frame designed for durability, It has all the advantages of metal for the price of a polymer."

John McClain works for Rock Island Armory and is a competition shooter...hell yes!!!! I'm in already.
If only he had some of these at Nakatomi Plaza!
@@foofyguy maybe the limo driver had them taped to his back or in that big stuffed animal
Yep. Wishing them luck and success with this new firearm.
That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines here and it costs more than what you make in a month!
When he was shooting at first I was like “man, for a comp shooter this dude is terrible,” then it did the close up of the target and I was like “oh, he shot a smiley face, wow, this dude is good”
A striker fired Aluminum frame pistol with cuts in the slide, comes optics ready, takes Glock mags, is compatible with many Glock parts, has a 1911 style grip, has a lifetime warranty, and comes in at $600 MSRP?!?! Sounds like a winner to me.
It won't co-witness. The rear sight is on the plate. Wait for V2.
@@TheSuburban15 for a competition gun that's totally fine. I want to see someone on CZcams really go out and push this thing to the max.
you won't be disappointed dude, this gun has a trigger of 1911
They give that lifetime warranty cause it is very reliable and durable, they built quality .
@@WeCube1898 Exactly. If they built junk, it would be a Lifetime warranty for the original owner.
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Did John McClaine just shoot a smiley face a la Martin Riggs on that target?
Its funny I LOVE Rock Island no longer own it because it was "stolen" but my 1st 1911 was a RIA and it NEVER once had any malfunctions it was a $400 1911 and ran 100% all the time LMAO the cheaper gun with looser tolerances worked out great, man I miss that gun...
Iv been told RIA 1911s also make great bases for builds.
The US is going bonkers now. Lots of guns are being "stolen" and/or lost at a boating accident.
@@macfacers they just sink so darn fast...
All hail JMB
When I first got into 1911's I had two RIA's that I shot weekly, sometimes twice a week. I'd run at least a hundred rounds each time I'd head out and I never had any malfunctions. I made my way through midrange and eventually into some higher end 1911's and the RIA's chugged right along.
So their basically out Glocking a Glock, and giving you an aluminum frame for less than a Sig. With a 1911 grip angle on a striker fired pistol..Interesting!!!! Will buy when available!! 👍🏿
you won't be disappointed , this gun has a better trigger than Glock trigger
@@gutadin5 that’s not really saying much though 😅 as far as factory triggers go
Glock meeting room - “ the apx has been flying off the shelves at 349 brand new , can it get any worse ?”
“Sir , they are making aluminum glock clones cheaper than our plastic glocks “
“Sweats in Austrian “
LoL, Glock isn't sweating, they are selling out. That said, when the panic buying ends, all the competition will be in a better
The APX is nice. One of the best pistols you can get at that price next to Canik's offerings. The $15 Competition Firing Pin Spring Assembly from Beretta's website makes the trigger even better.
@@JacksonWalter735 Has the holster availability improved for the Beretta APX? It really is a nice gun. Perhaps this panic buying will allow Beretta to get enough out there to establish a good word of mouth.
@@External2737 I haven't really checked. I've been using my We The People holster with a claw for IWB carry and that's been great to me. I haven't looked for other holsters since. One of the salesman at my local range has an APX Combat (optics and threaded barrel version) got his holster from Beretta since he couldn't find many APX Combat compatible holsters, but I'm sure you'll have an easier time finding a standard APX or APX Centurion holster out there.
@@JacksonWalter735 One good one is enough. I just remembered people complaining a year ago they couldn't find one holster they liked and it just takes one good one. I just searched and found 8 different holsters, so the market changed!
Lots of Glock clones or wannabes but the aluminum frame is intriguing and sets it apart from all the plastic frame striker fired pistols out there. I have a RIA 1911 and absolutely love it. I’m definitely interested in this new pistol.
1911 grip angle too with beavertail too.
Plastic frames with full slide or non windowed feel top heavy. The aluminum frame which eliminates flex and lightened slide is very interesting and intriguing.
@@JuandelaCruz001 That is the interesting thing and the extra weight. Did you understand the size of the grip. I really loved my STI Edge grip
I am gonna have to agree with you on your quote. I am a Glock "fan boy", but this has intrigued me also.
@@JuandelaCruz001 If it had manual safety for me, I'll get it along with trigger safe and drop safe.
Rock Island armory was outstanding with my warranty on my 1911, polite and shipped the gun back quickly, even upgraded my sights for free!
James, this was one of your best interviews. You let the Rock Island rep "do his thing" and you asked him great questions about the gun. Keep up the good work!
I've had several RIA's and have had great experiences with them. I'll grab one of these when they eventually make it to my area.
Breaking news: Glock fanboys everywhere are horrified by aluminum frame and overall lack of plastic
Like the the third comment in. Lol
guilty as charged
@@Fossil_ it’s hilarious to me the some of the commenters are actually butthurt that it’s made out of aluminum instead of plastic.
@@tfbtv it’s ok James, aluminum won’t hurt you
Glock fan boy here and i love this GUN!!!
Just a pitty the thing that makes me a glock fan boy is "economics" and a new 3rd gen G17 is alot cheaper than this pice of economical art 😢.
I mean i was in team cz before i finally bought my first firearm, i was soo in love with the p10!!
Then came buying time and the price difference was R3000!! That was the price of 3x 33rd glock mags!!
So the better looking cz lost out on price.
But this stk 100 sharing glock parts, now it is certainly a factor for the future.
The alu frame turns me on alot!
Rock Island, plz, I just need some 10mm double stack mags.
Yeah. Make this in 10/other convertible calibers and a separate dovetail for the rear sight.
They had a huge amount of them on the Armscor site about a month ago. I bought 10 and the display said they had over 250 left.
@@PlunderAndPillage that was then, this is now.
You have to check their website often.
That is a damn good looking pistol. Probably shoots like a dream. Thanks John and James.
I love it, but if I have one gripe it’s the vortex venom cut. I’d much rather have it cut for the RMR footprint or Shield RMSC footprint.
Man I just wish optics companies would just make a standard mount so you're not stuck with one optic
@@BiigiieCheeese That’s capitalism, homie! I agree with you, but companies mindset: 🤲🏻💰
Would be cool if they did different optic cut slides too since that would be an easier solution and not hard at all in the long run. I would prefer the optics industry picking a footprint too but that won't happen.
TBF isn’t rock island geared towards budget friendly shooters? I’m not disagreeing because holosun is available but I guess that’s the thought process.
@@Mrcuddlesworth_ oh yeah I’m a total slut for Holosun, that was the idea. The problem with the vortex is it’s not super durable and the proprietary footprint.
He answered the most important question.
"Does is take glock mags?"
I'm in.
💯
Very informative! You asked all the questions that I would have asked
The main reason I never wanted a Glock, even though I respect the Glocks reliability, is that I can’t stand the grip, particularly the grip angle. The angle just feels wrong. Where my CZ feels like CZ took a mold of my hand and built the gun around that, a Glock feels the opposite of that. Besides all the other pluses, like aluminum, and the slide cuts, that 1911-type angle might make me purchase an STK100.
Polymer80 has 1911 style grip.
Get a frame and all OEM glock internals.
Make the glock you want with a different grip angle
lets go, 50% Lowers, just add a left and a right and parts kit.
aluminum frame... no glock pignose. Initially I was like.... do we need another glock copy? But the aluminum frame is interesting.
Yeah, he had my interest at that point. Not wild about it being two bolted together halves though. Kinda Kel-tec-ish...
@@stonefree1911
Agreed. I have a thing for the older metal frame DA/SA guns. My favorite, my P226, I love very much! And Im all for cutting cost to produce affordable products. But two halves!?!?
[cringe]
(breaks out the locktite)
@@hikeskool Primarily flex reduction...but only if shot quick mag dump. If for targeting accuracy and take pauses between shots it would be unnoticeable since the recoil impulse(that causes the flexing) only happens when the bullet is already out of the barrel, so the accuracy improvement part of it is fairly nonsense. Like how on AK or Galil that the flexing body is acceptable since the barrel is the important part for accuracy as it is the only thing guiding that bullet to the target.
@@hikeskool less recoil being heavier.
@@hikeskool light=snappy and spread out groupings. Heavy=smaller groupings and easier follow up shots. Granted, anyone can train with anything and be proficient.
I love it because the aluminum frame is going to wear very nicely. Old Beretta 92 with the fading anodizing looks so freaking cool.
I bought a rock island 1911 and a ruger 1911 about 7years ago and my ruger had malfunctions. The front sight broke off when I was shooting it it was a turd. But the rock island never had a malfunction or broke they are great guns.
I love my RIAs. Just shot consistent 5 shot sub MOA groups at 100 yards with my .22 TCM bolt action (I did have the barrel floated and put a suppressor on it), and several 5 shot groups sub half-inch at 50 yards. My .22 TCM handgun is extremely fun to shoot as well. Looking forward to getting my hands on this one sometime soon.
>vortex venom cut
Well at least they know their target market
I wish RIA would make a bareboness production "canvass" 2011.
I really like that
Get a cz 75 sp01 tactical. Suck your canvas
Look for the Tac Ultra FS HC 9mm. 👍
@@shoua7 That's a Para Ordnance pattern pistol, not a 2011. From.the slide rails down, there's not much compatibility.

I have a lot of respect for RIA 1911s, I bet this will also be a good gun.
Thanks J. Great job. Good info.
Looks like fun! Great work rock island. Great work looks like a winner. I like that aluminum frame and that slide to swap around with.
Wow this looks really impressive, RIA is doing great things!!!
So this was made in my country, I'm a fan already, Ive always wanted to be a gunsmith, wish I had worked for Armscor back in the day.
Hope its cheaper here in the Philippines since its not imported.
@@ninocatacutan2779
Its cheaper actually if not for the excessive gun taxes and license fees and other permits.
The "Danao" Made are a little bit cheaper but not same quality and provide after sale warranty as Armscor .
finally got them to agree to look at it. sent back and hopefully they will correct the problem with the optics plate
Loving the alloy frame! Great going RIA!!!
If I hadnt already bought my new carry pistil, Id go buy that one. Love Rock Island. My 1911A1 has just over 2000 round thru it, both steel and brass cased, and no problems at all. Looking to maybe buy another RIA in the future then
John McClain is a natural! Get him a CZcams channel, stat.
Thanks
Thanks for making this video
3:08 he shoots a perfect smiley face 🙂
Lol I just realized that after you pointed it out.
This makes me feel kind of stupid for saving to buy a $400 aluminum frame alone from sig
For 320 or 365 aluminum frame modules, check out Icarus Precision instead.
Sig = overpriced
@@treverdavis5881 nah
Price does not mean quality. I carry a 2nd gen CZ P-07 and it is the best pistol I have ever owned and it cost me ~650 bucks brand new when it was released. I can see this pistol becoming a cult classic.
I know I was an Armscor/RIA fan after purchasing my tac ultra fshc 45acp 14 pistol. 👌 nice pistol to shoot. I look forward to adding the STK100 to my collection
If they come out with a g19 sized one I would be interested
This is awesome I’ve always wanted a Glock with an aluminum frame!! Definitely getting one
Love that the Cards vs Marlins was on at the range in Vegas
I had to deal with RIA with a warranty problem and they did take care of my problem with amazing customer service they were more than fair and did so in a very timely manner really treated me extremely well and the problem l had has not happened again once fixed back in 2015 no complaints here
Next a 15rd "compact" version that takes Glock 19 mags?
This is on my list now! Looks pretty Fing sweet!!!
Love my RIA 1911-A2 10mm!! Such a sweet shooter. If I hadn't already bought a Shadow Systems DR920, I'd definitely give this one a run.
I love my rock island 1911, ill have to look into getting one of these
Can't wait to get my hands on one. Almost didn't recognize John without his pink flower pants on.
With a p80 being my 1st gun and building 3, I've learned I really didn't like the feel of plastic even though I love the look of glocks. I personally was thinking of moving to the m9 platform.
ButThis is a welcome surprised
I have two ria 1911s so nice I had to do it twice. But seriously for the money zero complaints.
Not going to lie that guy sold the hell out of that. Heaven the aluminum frame sounds really nice. I'd take one, plus you can use glock mags.
*Gun owners:* We Love Trijicon and Holosun..
*Meanwhile at Rock Island Armory:* Let's mill the slide for only the Vortex Venom Footprint, not offer modular mounting and attach the rear sight to the Optic cover so people can't co-witness with irons.
*Gun Owners* Spends $300 Swapping the slide
Fingers crossed they will have a option to only buy the frame, will you be picking one up to do a review on it?
@Brandon Brandon ?
@Brandon Brandon okay weirdo, and if 600 is expensive for you, you need a new line of work
@@-Agent_47_ I have a review coming soon
Being able to make a Glock type "clone" with an aluminum frame for a similar price is a better selling point than most modern shooters realize. The 1911 styled grip is something that does give most people a more natural aiming point. The price on this will not remain at $599 and that's when it will really be interesting.
the smile face killed me . that was awesome
I love Rock Island Armory. My first 1911 was and is Rock Island Armory.
I was hoping given their extensive history of the 1911/2011's i was hoping for that style trigger with a striker fire gun. That would be exciting and new.
I feel like part of the design is to make it Glock-like so that they can draw in people familiar with that platform. If the STK100 does well, I wouldn't be surprised later to see other models with different trigger options.
Hudson already did that with their guns, too bad they went belly up, all because a marketing snafu.
Me too !! All I want is a striker fire with a 1911 style trigger of that was I a Glock style gun it would be over
@@bdkj3e them going belly up only made the Hudson H9 more expensive too. It was too expensive when I wasn't old enough to purchase a pistol and now it's even more expensive now that I'm an adult 😥
@@JacksonWalter735 that sucks, they would have come down in price eventually once they had paid off their machinery and the aluminum frames would have been easier to machine so less costly.
lmfao...John McClain....love it and how James started chuckling. it looks like a great gun...but no one here where I live has one....ugh
I got one of those RIA VRBP's because it was the only thing in stock that I remotely wanted a few months ago. It ran like shit for like 150 rounds, now it's awesome. I also have a Baby Rock that I got as an add on in a trade, I haven't had any problems with that.
I've been comparing guns to guitars for years! You made a Les Paul with Modern fluence pickups. Beautiful pistol.
Oooh, this is pretty damn cool concept!
I absolutely FUCKING LOVE my rock island 1911a2, the snubby 38 is fun too. My 10mm 1911 fit and finish was leaps and bounds above the f&f of my springfield armory .45acp 1911. The fitment in particular is vastly superior
If you have any doubt on RIA's reliability, just remember that their 1911's are being used in a hot, humid and polluted country and they are working just fine.
Great thought I would love to see their ultra tacs going aluminum as well!!!
Awesome! A striker-fired handgun, but with an aluminum frame, apparently well made, entering the market. This is truly the golden era of the wonder 9's. Glock can't keep up with the competition... Walther PDP, H&K VP9, CZ P10, Canik TP9's, Sig Sauer P320, Beretta APX, SAR 9, Steyr L2, S&W MP's, Springfield Armory XD, and so forth and so on.
Glock still outsells all of those.
@@jeanbabtisteclamence3018 Well, that is changing rapidly. Sales of other gun manufacturers are increasing substantially.
@@jeanbabtisteclamence3018 And McDonald's sells more burgers than the local burger joint around the corner from me. Are their burgers the same? Heck no! Sale numbers are not the only measure of quality to be sure.
@@SlavicCelery that's for sure. But more importantly, an undeniable fact is: Glock has some serious competition with thousands upon thousands of gun owners buying other gun manufacturers pistol models. In fact, Canik is "killing it"!
@@v.german11b Glock also got widespread adoption by subsidiaries given to police departments. All I can say is lately I've seen a wider variety of sidearms carried by LEOs around me.
Not that it's anything hard or fast, but it's just something I've observed over the last five or so years.
Not gonna lie this looks like a winner for me.
I need this ASAP!
Not my kinda handgun but super cool that they're making something like this with so many custom options for an entry level price. Well done RIA
Polymer frames are the main reason why I preferred hammer guns over striker for the longest time. This gun seems like it could be a game changer for me. I like Glocks, I like their reliability, I like the look, but I never liked the snappy recoil. This seems like it fixes that.
The better triggers do help the hammer fired pistols, imo.
Watching this is like watching what Glock could have been like in the future if they had more innovative (yes yes, I know their slogan and that according to them they have reached perfection). But I wouldn't mind a Glock that came with an aluminium frame as an option. Not to say there is anything wrong with their polymer frames cos I have used my Glock in cold weather, hot weather, sleeping on it and sliding down a rocky embankment after I fell and it still feels solid with no visible cracks. But a aluminium frame would certainly make me feel more comfortable with my Glock 34 gen 5 FS MOS and G17L being turned into family heirlooms. Metal just gives off that forever forever vibe even if it's not true.
Glock sold me when they released the gen 4 19/23 platform... Fits my hands almost perfect!
Love your reviews , would love that aluminum frame ,, in the classic 19 frame of course
When will it come shipped with a 22 TCM 9R second barrel?
Buy the Glock conversion kit from Advanced Tactical. They wont be selling combos anymore.
THIS!!! I was upset when they stopped the 22TCM9R in the MAPP series pistol.
This must be why they’ve been out of stock of most 10mm models the past 18 months
Yeah, I'm sure the rush on all firearms had nothing to do with it.
In the words of a well known figure- "C'mon man!"
Or maybe because 10mm was $60 a box for the low end range ammo and brass was pretty much unavailable.
@@TheSuburban15 that's nothing when compared to 9mm, even boxes of tula steel were ~$40. almost makes the switch a no brainer when you look at the differences.
Same thing with 50bmg. I was seriously considering getting one this past year simply due to the fact that $2.50/rd doesn't hurt quite as much when 556 was $1 or more per round...

I really wonder how the frame rails will wear being aluminum and having a steel slide.
Many sig models, beretta 92, alloy frame 1911's, many CZ75 models, and many others go 10's of thousands of rounds and still work fine with alluminum slide rails

Agree. Sig did that crap with the P365X RomeoZero.
So this means I'm going to have to wait 10-15 years for it to even be considered legal to own in California!
Enjoy the gen 3 glock and gen 1 Shield 😂😂😂
I recently purchased this handgun. Today was its first trip to the range with me. Here are the first impressions from a 10 yr. Army Vet, 23 years LEO. Seventeen of those as an FI.
The pistol does shoot softer than my G47. But IMHO, the difference is not super noticeable.
Accuracy is pretty good. Sights are very serviceable. 15 shots at 15 yds resulted in about 1 to 1.5 MOA with about 2 sec. interval between shots.
The trigger feels and performs better than my G19 Gen 5 that has about 5k rounds through it.
As some of the reviews point out, the grip texture is where this pistol fails. The side panels are great. But I don't understand why RIA decided to do these non functional serrations on the front and back straps. They should have stuck with the same or slightly less aggressive texture as the side panels. As a result, my hands were slipping off a bit on an 87°- 70% humidity day.
The 3x15 and 2x15 successive mag dumps gave me all projectiles within an 8" circle. Except for 1 outlier that ended up about 4" up and right from the POA.
Idk if improvements have been done on this pistol since it first hit the market, but I found no evidence of the claim that the 1:16 barrel has problems stabilizing heavier grain bullets. I tried Winchester 124 and Speer 147 HP. No keyholing of any kind.
All in all, this pistol performed well. 150 rounds straight out of the box with no malfunctions.
I will continue shooting it without cleaning it until I can experience and identify some sort of failure.
Just went to thunder ranch. Love to see james put his mag in his gun hand's little finger.

that's a no brainer, PSA makes stuff for people that lack funds and live in the hills and it's junk. Rock island is cheap but it seems to be quality
I was thinking the same thing!
I feel like they both have their place.
RIA has really stepped-up their game since I was a teenager in the 1970's. My research by reading and, hands-on, practical experience convinces me that I would confidently carry an RIA in my work as an executive protection professional. I would love to be a manufacturer's rep for RIA.
I have been looking for one of these out in the wilds with no luck.
Only hop can do a feature on rock island armory! Go away james!
Definitely expected the hippety hop
You had me at takes glock mags..
That is really nice compared to a standard glock. This is aluminum and steel, which are the two best materials for slides and frames, plus nice length of barrel and grip, still compact but optimized for accuracy and speedloads (nicely machined magwell too), slide cuts, beaver tail, optics mounts, glock magazines. It looks pretty ideal for the price point, if you spent another 500 on it you'd have a top notch target or show gun.
I don't feel like this is going to do very well. I hope I'm wrong. Thanks for the share!!
This may be the one that gets me to buy a "glock".
