This was an interesting experience..standing right at the finish line of Onaway Speedway's uphill drag strip as 280,000 pounds of American metal and lumber come racing towards us, and what happens? A turbo is absolutely shredded 15 feet away from our faces - sending metal fragments and smoke up into the air as if it were apart of the show. While somewhat sketchy, it was something we'll never forget and something that will bring us back to Great Lakes Big Rig Challenge for years to come!

Can anyone figure out where the paint came off of? It's a stock color on something!
I would look at the 90s Era Ford explorer Eddie bauers, something about it makes me think of those
Just gonna take a guess at Millennium Jade from the R34 Skyline
Definitely Millennium jade imo
Ford Silver Spruce Metallic
70s Oldsmobile
These trucks are incredible. The amount of torque it requires to twist and lift the chassis is immense!
Yup. Thats like 6k lbs and it's lifting it and twisting it like nothing
@@protipskiptoendofvideoandr286 honestly it’s probably picking up more than that. That’s some power.
How much torque at the ring and pinion! You'd think the driveshaft U-joints would just grenade.
All the horsetorques
Majority of them are running Cat engines.. I know my c-15 used to be set too 600 hp and 2150 ft/lbs at the crank most of these guys are running the same engine block and head but with cams, injectors and turbos from the c-16/c-18 engines and such, those engines are cranking out anywhere from 1500-2400 hp you can just imagine the torque output 😳 I met up with the couture race team in notré damn and when they dynoed their truck it was making 2000hp at the wheels and it wasn't putting all the power down 😳... on top of all that.. these are all oem transmissions... oem rear ends and oem axles....
"How much power?" "About 1500."
"How much torque?" "All of it."
I love how he goes from stone-faced racing driver to pure excitement.
I love the fact that 1320 branches out from street racing to cash days to track days to rig pulls now. So awesome!

Watching a semi do a burn out is one of the most bizarre and strange but still incredibly awesome things to see.
Any stock semi will do MASSIVE burnouts, no problem.
@@wingersdingers if you chain the axles down
Dude I want whatever rear end that is that handles the power! Lol shorten that bad boy up for a drag car and never worry about breaking a rear end again.
My dad drove truck for 35 years, he was like a big kid when he would watch these trucks, he would have enjoyed this. Love and miss you dad.
❤️
People dont appreciate the life we have thanks to truckers...
I'm sure your dad would of loved this too. 🤘
Your dad must've been a hell of a trucker. Much love from Vegas.
I thank your dad for keeping us moving for those 35 years!🫡
Thank you all for the kind replies, he enjoyed what he did.
9:08 if you don’t have time to watch everything now, sick content guys love seeing a new notification from you guys!!
Infinitely more enjoyable than seeing any R35 race.
Facts!
Best comment here yet!!!
Yeah, no oil-downs delaying racing for hours.
Very much indeed, good sir
More enjoyable then seeing any American v8 race. More like it.
I want to take this time to thank Kyle for all the badass content over the years.
Kyle thank you for going to a semi truck race. It's really interesting to see something so different. I would like to have a garage update. I'm curious to see what happened with the ZR1 since the motor rebuild. I saw the beginning of the rebuild but never saw the finished product or update.
It was nice seeing this compared to the same boring Lambos, GTRs or some other typical drag car.
@@MrBassbump I mean it is a drag racing channel so your going to see a bunch of the typical fast car chassis a lot
@@oldmanriver2251 I understand, but it does get boring see the similar models of cars with the similar power plants racing. This was a breathe of fresh air
@@cd2920 these videos were awesome. Never would I have considered myself a Semi drag racing fan. It’s wild seeing the chassis of the rigs twist off the line then popping the front tire off the ground when the shift to second. 🤯
Can you imagine at a stop light and see one pull off like that lol
ABSOLUTELY the most amazing sight you'll EVER SEE.......
Is giving them the horn the truck equivalent of slapping on your hazards after you gap someone? 🤣🤣

@@reubenmorris487 it’s called having a maintenance bank account :)
The EPA wanted to remove slightly more sulfur from the fuel using a more expensive process ....that spiked the cost up by an extra dollar in 2008
What's dumb is that sulfur created sulfur dioxide.... one of the most potent _anti_ greenhouse gasses. This implies the EPA believes global warming is less dangerous than the smell of diesel fuel.....
And this matches with reality....at least until Antarctica is melted again like it normally is.
I'm only semi-interested in these races
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I see what you did there!
Wow I’ve never seen this format of motorsports before! Massive trucks doing burnouts, that’s insane 😀 I really enjoyed it.
They've been doing this in Canada for years.
This was more common in the mid to late 1970's during the heyday of trucker convoys & the CB radios. Smokey & the Bandit had it's opening scene at a semi rally.
@@StarDriver1 OHHHHH FOCK YA, BUD!!!!👍......JUST OUT FER A RIPPP!!
search semi vs m5 or viper. These trucks are fast when empty
That turbo blanket saved them so much in the long run 😂 imagine if the flaming oil show all over the engine bay...
Imagine if the seal went and it fed the oil into the intake side of the turbo.
Imagine
There’s just something amazing about a big rig doin a burnout 😂
I'm a car guy through and through I absolutely love watching everything from drifting to drag racing to motor builds and body kits but damn it brings the kid out of me watching these videos. There's just something so cool and somewhat scary about these big powerful machines. Being in a family with a couple truckers that have had a few bad ass rigs they literally don't touch these trucks in any way shape or form. I couldn't imagine being inside of one of these things as they launch.
That’s probably one of the craziest sensations going that fast in something that is that heavy and sits that high. I have a lot of respect for these drivers! It seems a lot more difficult and tedious than regular car drag racing! 🤘🔥
When I first got my license, I got a little rabbit GTI.
They go decently.
Well, I dropped a buddy off at the truck yard to grab his old cabover and follow him to the other yard to get the trailer.
I hadda give it 2/3-3/4 pedal to keep up with him in acceleration
Pretty sure that was an old 855 Cummins ,like a mid 80s model.
@@MrTheHillfolk yeah my brother drives semis and I road with him one time and I was actually surprised about the power, and how gears there were 🤯. But I have a gti as well a mk7 stage 2. Waiting on my new is38 turbo
I drive trucks for a living and 30 or 40 mph seems so much faster in a truck than a car, you can feel the momentum
Drag racing with the load. Twisting the chassis. That's some Powah
I remember watching truck racing when I was a child. Was one of the coolest things ever, I've always loved truck racing since then. Crazy stuff
The color on that rig reminds me of the Eddie Bauer Edition Expeditions from the late 90s- early 2000s.
That was my thought as well, though I seem to remember those being a skosh greener... hmmmm
The paint on this truck changes colors. Ford didn’t use anything like that on its SUV’s.
Street cars throw the hazards on when we win and semis apparently blow lay on the horns. LOL
Lol I was saying he pulled the chute on that 2nd guy.
Those horns are fun tho.
I love how smoothly the Emcee goes from French to English.
Yes tabernac !!
Yes. Alot of us can do that here in Québec.
WHEN TURBO FINS COME APART THE OIL COMES OUT THE EXHAUST.
GREAT VIDEO, THANK YOU.
I am drag racing and motorsports to the core and this is just SOOO awesome

At the start of the race at @3:21, I have never seen a more determined-looking human being, than this man.
all that determination just to start late
Man is it impressive to see how fast they can get those big rigs moving
A newer big truck with a late model engine bobtailing can give economy cars fits during acceleration if the drivers on his game.
This guy definitely wasn’t telling the whole truth about what’s done to the engine 😂 that isn’t just a turbo, manifold, and ecu upgrade lol
youd be surprised man, ive built c15 cat engines and made over 900 hp on stock everything besides turbo and manifolds, (they make roughly 450-550 stock)
@@bluyxx6482 I second this. As a CAT tech they definitely have strong engine internals. They are built to last stock, over built if you will.
Fuel system is blueprinted, heads are ported no doubt
@@Evan.gall_307 have you seen the catle puller guy? Shame he passed away he make some nice trucks
Cat has industrial and marine variants of these engines doing over 1000 HP, factory, with warranties. The right cam, injectors, turbo and tuning can make north of 2000 HP on all Caterpillar-branded parts.
He swapped turbo after being on fire, that's determination!
Those French Canadians sure have some fast trucks
The whole truck twisting and lifting four feet off the pavement on the loaded runs is INSANE.
Driveshaft torque ma boii
the reaction of the driver in the beginning was awesome love to see the excitement these crazy trucks bring
Do like the swan... but I have a long hood Pete with a hoped up KTA Cummins that will blow that thing away. She is detuned to 1150 HP now for mileage but she can be turned up to stupid.
Im gonna say that they dont know nothing about them KTA'S LOL
Those Ford LTLs (opponent in ride along race) are some of my all time favorite trucks. Glad to see some still out there being run and cared for. Loving this content, keep up the great work.

If that semi is the paint code for millennium jade that is fucking awesome

that does look very close. I thought it looked a bit like a 1999 Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Expedition with Spruce Green Metallic paint and tan fender trim.

"Only pulled local light freight, never hauled heavy"
Broke and winning is still winning. AWSOME!
Time for Kyle to build a 1320 race semi 👊🏻
The actual speed may not be numerically fast in comparison to something like a Lambo but when you factor into how much power, torque and the weight of the truck, you realize that this thing is moving, and scarily fast at that
FACTS!
I could only imagine what it must be like to be in a truck like that! Brother-in-law had a early 2000’s peterbuilt with a CAT 15L in it. 500hp one if I recall correctly,, with a sleeper on it. Bobtailing , and as we stopped at a intersection , a kid in a late 90’s Chevy truck pulled alongside us… brother-in-law says ‘he thinks he can take me!….. watch this!….’…. Think he started in 4th gear… and that pickup got gapped big time!

1650 torque transmissions live behind 2200+ ft-lbs in working trucks, every day. Mine is one of them. Eaton builds up to 2250 rated transmissions, which are SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive, but, obviously, have the robustness to match.

I'm not really into drag racing, it just never caught my attention like other motorsports did but this? This is awesome, I love the mostly stock looking nature of them too.
Whewn the turbo breaks, it usually breaks the impellar, and the shaft comes out and goes down into the exhaust, now you have that hole with 60 plus PSI of hot oil going through that hole. That's where the fire came from. I've seen trucks blow a turbo and oil the entire side of the trailer down.
More semi content!!!!!! Love it!
Thank you for bringing the world of racing video's to us all !!!
I love this series with semi trucks
Blow on the fire 👏 👏 👏
You should see the flames coming out of the much larger exhaust of a 3516 Cat or 4000 Detroit when they lose a turbo hauling 400 tons uphill. They look similar to an old F-5, lighting the afterburners at night on takeoff from MCAS Yuma. Then the white smoke rolls out in huge plumes when the driver backs out of the throttle. Replacing those oil-soaked exhaust blankets isn't fun either.
I’d like to see 400 tons being pulled uphill.
Steve Goulets W900 shoots nothing but flames!

semi drivers are fucking nuts. a full turbo swap in 25 minutes after an engine fire.
They are really easy to change its 4 bolts 2 clamps and oil lines they don't take long with all the room they have
Chasis's twisting on take off is ridiculous. The truck is literally having a battle upon itself, gforces from the launch, then drama with grip, then the big ass steering wheel, then the heavy ass clutch then, the aggressive shifts, the front wheels off the ground, to inhaling diesel exhaust. It's all adrenaline in the end, the fix is amazing 🤣😵💫
Thank you so much for bringing us a variety of content
I cant believe it. He got the turbo so hot it caught fire ! WTF Great job man ! That spool (turbo whistle) is exactly why i started loving trucks 40 years ago and driving them 32 of those years.
The ability of these truck drivers to jam those long throw gears and quickly skipping through the gears they want when not towing
Rev matching and floating, plus quick on the selector switch 🤙
