2018-2019 Honda Accord Touring Taillights on Sport Trim

  • Instead of installing aftermarket tail lights that are equally as expensive, I decided to convert my 2018 Honda Accord Sport 2.0 tail lights to the touring trim tail lights. This project works on ALL 2018 & 2019 Honda Accord trim types and transmission types. Honda really screwed up in my opinion with omitting the upper tail light on all of the trims for the 2018-2019 honda accord. Outside the United States, ALL trims have touring style lights and really is essential for safety and for the design of the light. Final cost was around $350 for all the parts + wiring harness instillation.
    If you are in Northern California Prestige Auto Works in Sacramento can install the Honda Accord touring harness very inexpensively and professionally.

    Here in Canada my ex-l accord came with a heated steering wheel, chrome door handles, heated rear seats, vents in the rear as well as two usp chargers back there. It also has the NFC feature for Samsung devices. And of course the touring brake lights in the rear! Doesn’t make sense why they cut so much out of the US accord.. it’s bullshit to be honest.

    I’m giving an alert for any hybrid owners.
    You should be aware that you need the hybrid Touring Rear Harness; besides, the parts number differs between 2018-2019 and 2020 year models although they look identical.
    I personally bought a 2018-2019 Hybrid Touring Rear Harness for my 2020 Hybrid EX-L. It worked for everything but UNABLE to power the EVAP system. An emission system problem light came on, and I believe it is caused by some rearranged pins in the harness.

      @@CaliforniaPhantom most likely they aren't true oem lights, maybe oem like if anything. I remember wanting to do this several months ago and parts alone was around $400. • @CaliforniaPhantom
      @CaliforniaPhantom  Před 5 lety +7

      Hang Nguyen hey to each is to own. Some people put performance mods as a preference; I myself don’t want to void any extended warranties that I have purchased as a result I can’t put any parts in the engine or lowering kits for 7 years. Lowering voids rim warranty for me, so I totally get it. But I get a lot of compliments with the simple stuff I have done, and plan on doing plenty more. I’ve had a number of Accord owners actually stop and ask me about the lights cause they want to know why there’s don’t work, but mine does. But $350 is in my mind the same cost as aftermarket kit replacement, I just like that OEM look better.

      No not hard to install at all. Several people have said it can be done without dropping the bumper. When pro shop did it they loosened the 2 bolts on top of pumper near the trunk lid and was able to get enough room to feed it through that way. Phase 1 was me installing physical lights themselves. There is a rear wiring harness for touring that I have included in description that is “phase 2” which I had professionally installed. Did you watch the video? It takes OEM touring wiring harness that you have to plug in; begins inside the trunk in the left side and you feed it to replace your original. It is because the wires that lead to the trunk light only function for the reverse, the actual break light doesn’t have a functioning wire on non-touring models. How it works is this. When the headlights are on the bottom and side of the C lights up. With your 1.5 the top small bit in the corner gets illuminated when you press the tail light. For touring models and above, the top of the C on the trunk illuminates when you press the brake. So what I did with this build/video was replaced the the 1.5 / 2.0 harness with the touring harness and replaced the trunk light so the top fully illuminates. 8:30....so you said you didn’t like after market lights because you aren’t aware of their reliability, brightness etc but you still buy eBay replicas instead of OEM to save money....tomatoes tomatoes potatoes potatoes🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @CaliforniaPhantom
      @CaliforniaPhantom  Před 4 lety

      The eBay purchased allowed me for an additional $20 buy a insurance on the light. As I’ve said in my other comments these lights are indistinguishable from OEM in every way. I would not be surprised if the company sources the item in China where OEM is made. Plastic has exact same color match as OEM and lights have exact same output. Part of my reasoning was I like the look of OEM, but part of it is reliability. I don’t know where those squirrelly aftermarket lights are specifically coming from and I don’t know about there reliability. Most of them seem underpowered as well when it comes to the actual light output. So between how close to OEM they are, the fact I got SquareTrade insurance on them and the fact they look OEM which won’t hurt resell, I went with these lights over anything else. I hope this better explains my thought process.

      I want to update you and let you know tail lights are CAPA certified. CAPA was formed 1987 to certify parts through testing and guarantees Parts that will fit, perform, last and be every bit as safe as the originals. So these tail lights are OEM equivalent.

    • @CaliforniaPhantom

      I had sport 2.0 harness. Touring harness allows touring tail lights to be installed; illuminating the entire tail light. That’s what I did and what Honda did to short everyone who didn’t buy the touring model.

    • @CaliforniaPhantom
      @CaliforniaPhantom  Před 4 lety +1

      Very good question, and all I can say is that everything you do in this can be undone if you keep the parts. The wire harness itself is OEM so you’d only need to swap tail lights back to original if you were concerned with voiding warranty. As far as Honda techs identifying it, there is no chance in hell that they would notice it. I have had it serviced twice and they never said anything.

      there is no way changing your tail light is going to void your warranty especially if you go to a touring tail light.

    • @Squirrel_D
      @Squirrel_D Před 4 lety +1

      I agree with Tommy Armour. I had my 2019 Accord serviced at a Honda dealership today and asked the tech if Honda would/could custom-tune my ECU to take into account my Takeda intake and Borla exhaust. He told me (as I'd seen and read elsewhere) that messing with the ECU opens a huge and potentially VERY expensive can o' worms - *and* the ECU phones home and lets Honda know when it's been mucked with...all of which means that'll void your warranty...BUT he said that just replacing the factory intake and exhaust with aftermarket ones should *not* void my warranty. And if putting in an aftermarket intake and an aftermarket exhaust doesn't void your warranty, it's unthinkable that replacing the taillights will.

      Absolutely. I have them still and they are identical to OEM in every way.
