  • After spending a thorough amount of time with the F90 M5 Competition I began wondering just how much of an upgrade was this car from the former F10 generation? And if you're looking to purchase an M5 right now or already own an F10, is it even worth bothering to upgrade? All of these questions. and more are answered in today's video! As always, I hope you enjoyed and please make sure to leave a like and subscribe to the channel for more awesome content!

I had the F10, went to an RS7 then an F90 M5, nothing, and I mean nothing comes close to the F90 overall. I would recommend buying an 18/19/20 pre-LCI, the prices are dropping. Mine is stage 2 with about 850 hp, the RS7 was tuned to 950hp and felt noticeably slower and less capable all around. The F10 just spun in place, one of the slowest fast cars out there in real world conditions.

Ya and the problem is the weak rods that bend so easily on even just on stage 2. Great car but this is a major problem.

I was thinking to buy a used F10 (2016) with 36k mileage for $45k but changed my mind after I saw your videos and de ided to wait 1 year for the new F90 2021 comp model which are highly praised. What I noticed is that the M5 hold its value better than the Audi and Merc equivalent

The F10 was meant to be AWD, but Bimmer said it was still in the process of being perfected. Sadly, it suffered with traction issues. The F90, however, is Quattro killer incarnate. Look no further.

For any difference in performance or traction on the F10 can be corrected for 1/2 of the difference in the price of both cars. $35-$40K for an good clean F10 plus another $25K in upgrades and you save $25K+ and have a faster car that is just as nice. The F90 is good but not $100K better-good.

I owe a blue M5 F10 since 2011 (just 33,5K miles) it’s still a great sports car to me and I love that Puma design on its wide body 😊

I've owned the F10 M5! A very capable M5 in the BMW ///M lineage! Personally, BMW would have slayed everyone years ago,...had they released an F10 ///M5 with xDrive! They could have easily done this given the fact that the 550 xDrive M Sport existed!
Now, about the F10/F90,...the F90 is years more capable than the F10. This takes nothing away from the F10,...the F90 is just way MORE car,....Way More ///M Car!

15 or 16 F10 are the ones to get. F90 are still pretty expensive and I actually think the exterior design of the F10 better. I have a 2016 you can review.

I owned two m5 f10 2012 models..one was tuned withouth my knowing..the other one I bought later was all original and in terrific shape. I now own a v90 t8, its good in winter. :) But the f90 strikes me as a beautiful and awesome car, will probably look into that later on. F10 are getting old now, still lots of car left if you buy the right one, but newer is better. Nice video!

I’ve just switched from 2019 G05 X5 M50D to a 2016 F10 M5 and loving it. I do not miss iDrive 7. It’s exquisite to drive and I love the SMG gearbox. I think the flaws in the F10 versus the F90 make it a more interesting day-to-day drive. The F90 is just so perfect, it’s almost bland at daily-driver speeds. The dynamic back-end of the F10 acts as a frequent reminder of what you’re sitting in, even when you’re just going into town to the shops. Few of us are going to be taking our M5s on the track or truly exploiting all of their potential, so, the ability for fun within or near the legal speed limit is important.
That said, in a few years, I’ve the F90 to look forward to, but for now, I’d strongly recommend the F10.
On iDrive 7… personally, I don’t like the seismic shift in vehicular dashboards to a sea of screens. The F10’s blend of analogue and smaller displays is hugely refreshing. For example, the F10 does not have a touch screen so its user interface is designed to allow easy input of a telephone number via the iDrive controller. On iDrive 7, it’s more biased towards touch. Touch is fine when at a standstill. It’s a pain while driving.
F10… go for it! Safe motoring folks.

Definitely see what you mean about the much more "dynamic" character of the F10. I think to some degree it is a more intense vehicle as compared to the F90 due to its RWD architecture of course and the 7 Speed DCT gearbox. Also the more simplistic interior layout and analog style gauge cluster are very refreshing when compared to almost all new german vehicles

@@SimplyCarThings yea but when you drop the f90 into rwd mode at the simple and easy push of a button, it gives you all the same advantages of the f10 plus more on top.
