      Yeah, wears funny is I have that plugin and have owned it for years now(10 plus I think), and I never use it! Ever! But this might give me a me a new idea to use it. Cause I for sure use preamps, compressors and eq, as tonal color all the time! 3a lives on guitars and bass buss! It's perfect for bass, sometimes guitars can go 76, or 2a depending. I personally would first tried api for those guitars. But don't have much experience with trident tbh. Only 1 session. Great to learn that and have it the playbook, as I'm sick of the big 3. Missed MCI consoles too! They don't get talked about enough. I always got great sounds outta them.

    Here's something people might want to try - Waves Silk on the raw DI tracks. It worked to improve the clarity for me, I put it at the start of the chain before going into the amp sim or anything else. Worth playing around with anyway. 🙂

      @Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@timothythomasmusic777 It's worth trying. I have a riff that uses both the open E and the open A and it just sounded a bit muddy because of the ringing of the open E when I hit the B followed by the open A, and Silk cleaned it up nicely.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Marvellous! Bryan Carlstrom would process the DI back in the late '90s to go into AmpFarm! I've borrowed that technique from him many times, it's a smart thing to do! Check out Americana by The Offering, that's AmpFarm guitars blended with real amps!

    Sarah Carter is the real deal. I purchased her understanding audio mixing course catalog as she takes you from A to Z from understanding EQ, Compression, Delays and etc. She even provides reference guides for each, so you can wrap your head around it and if you need to recall something while doing a mix. Her approach is very easy to understand and simply connects. I have not finished all of the modules as it is over 20 hours, but it is a great visual/hands-on compliment to Warren's book covering these topics, because you get a chance to touch it. I am a hands on learner so that is how I comprehend best. Sarah and Joe are two of my favorite mentors in the academy! 😊

    I got a question: Especially guitar track "left3" all the low end is still there. Assuming there will be a bass guitar in the track later, shouldn't it be eq'd first? Before putting so much effort in the overall blending of the guitars? Thanks for another great video, learned a lot again!

    • @BassByTheBay
      @BassByTheBay Před 6 měsíci +2

      But where was there so much effort? All she did was use a tape emulator, then she went right to a mb compressor to minimize the lows, which she explicitly acknowledged needed to be minimized to prevent the guitars from sounding too muddy/chunky.

    I personally have trouble hearing the differences. Maybe its my headphones. I've been using the same Sennheiser hd 280 for over a decade now for all my work and video consumption. A lot of these audio production videos feel like there isn't anything these expensive plug ins are contributing to the over all sound. Part of me wishes to hear the extreme side of what these plugins are doing before dialling it to taste. It's all digital. You won't break anything, with a limiter on the master bus to protect your speakers, headphones, hearing. Some of the mixing ABing is so subtle that it's hard to justify the time and money spent on any of it. I'm sure a lot of viewers watch for not only knowledge and techniques but also their next purchase. Some have to save their money and only buy a few new items a year.
    I know theres more to the guitar sounds than just those plugins. Good tone starts at the source. I haven't had a lot of opportunity to control the source. Often I'm left with live recordings where the most I can hope for is a clean recording with minimal issues. I don't get to mic up cabinets, tune drums, pic the mics, choose pedal selection or keyboard patches. Sometimes I get vocal effects baked in to the recording.
    I've learned a lot from youtube in the last decade. I've also seen countless videos that didn't teach me anything new or usable.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks for your comment! I do hear the differences, often of course things are subtle and other times they are not! One would hope that we get to mix music that has great intention behind it, music that the producer, engineer, musicians etc (often the same person!) has made choices so that parts work well together! In those instances Mixing could and should be fairly straightforward, at least to someone who can hear and make the necessary adjustments. Many thanks

    @brimans3092 Před 6 měsíci +3

    Led Zep 1 you perceive Page to have heavy sonics but his telecaster is not sonically heavy, nor is it layered because they didn't have endless tracks (luxury or burden?) maybe heavyness or large is in the song writing or attitude and not bad stodgy electric guitar layered tracks. Maybe you get into a chase your tail because digital is still inferior to high end tape multitrack but you have no choice because real tape is now luxury.. It's like powers that be forcing digital on everybody and everything.. Cars. Cash etc... Where's the next Kurt Cobain? No takers? Just complacency then and the Foos?... 😢

    As a mixing engineer I would not accept that many guitar tracks. Creating the guitar sound out of three different tracks would make me a kind of producer, which is not what I get paid for. I ask for one track left and one track right along with a clean D.I. track. Everything else the band or the producer has to sort.
