  • In order to make various distributions compatible, the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) was developed, and is adopted by both Linux and Unix operating systems.
    In this video, based on Section 1.1.1 of the CompTIA Linux+ exam objectives, explains which files are stored where -- and WHY.
    The FHS is explained in details here:
    en.wikipedia.o...
    And the Linux+ objectives are available here:

    Your tendency to tack on a small real world example for each concept is golden. I try to use multiple different sources for learning but your lessons really cement the information into learning.

      You are welcome! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm excited about this whole series, not only should it help folks prepare for the certification, but it's just a great bunch of content for anyone interested in Linux. :)

    Goldmine of knowledge! I am preparing for LPIC-1 but I believe there is a big overlap between Linux + and LPIC-1
    Keep video length between 15 and 25 minutes. Also a live stream once a week or every two weeks between 30 - 60 minutes would be great !

    • @shawnp0wers
      @shawnp0wers  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! And yes, the overlap is HUGE. I'll figure out a livestream schedule, and make sure it's advertised in advance.

    I am still very new to LInux. So, there's probably a million different things a person can do to make it easier for them to read, but how in the world did you change the font color? When everything is just black and white, all the different lines run together. I love this color scheme you're using.

    Hey Shawn, so happy to see you are tossing together films where were the common Joe can ask questions. My question, this appeared to be “pre-drop” which is great but then again. We are hear a year later.
    What say you…
    I’m eager in learning Linux from the ground up. I’m interested in signing up to the test once I see everything that is needed to be learned.
    Let’s see what works. If you’re interested then please let me know.

    One thing that must be known about Linux, is that anything that can be completed on a Terminal can be completed on a Graphics User Interface (GUI).

      @@shawnp0wers it’s definitely very appreciated! By the way, if I played around a bit with Linux in the past do you think It’s still preferable I start with Linux essential first?

    • @shawnp0wers
      @shawnp0wers  Před 2 lety +1

      Only if you feel a bit overwhelmed by the content in Linux+, there's nothing in Linux Essentials that isn't covered in more depth with Linux+ (not that I can recall anyway), but Linux Essentials doesn't assume any Linux experience at all.

      Good point, it isn't mentioned on the Linux+ objectives, but I also forgot all about /srv -- and that is probably where I should mount my perma-shares like video files, etc.
      Oh well, I've been abusing /mnt for so long, it would be silly to change now. ;)

    • @shawnp0wers
      @shawnp0wers  Před 2 lety +1

      I have to confess, my notes are just looking at the objectives to make sure I didn’t forget anything, and reminders to switch to my slides when explaining stuff.
      I was recently asked about making study notes, and that’s something I’m trying to figure out. Hopefully I’ll have something soon…
