- In this episode, we take a look at the brand new LomoChrome Color '92 that Lomography just released. I received an early test roll and shot it together with my buddy Marc Rebillet with his Leica M6 TTL in New York City.
LomoChrome Color '92 is a brand-new color negative film emulsion rated at ISO 400 that can be developed in the standard C-41 process. Initially, it will only be available as 35mm but Lomography intends to also produce it as 120 and 110 rolls in the future. It will be sold in individual boxes as well. The new film’s marketing material and packaging takes you back to the punchy and sometimes surreal colors of 1990s movies.
The official material points out that the film may be used in all lighting conditions, be it daylight or tungsten, and still produce original color representations. It comes with a rich film grain, “fascinating blue tones, clear red tones and glowing yellow tones” combined with “tender, colder undertones”. All this with good dynamic range. The manufacturer describes the film as “the next step in Lomography’s film production journey, a completely NEW Color Negative film formula since the reveal of the successful LomoChrome Metropolis film in 2019.”
To me, this sounded very promising and I found the cover image quite intriguing. It reminded me of Japanese independent movies shot on film and I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Furthermore, I find it worth supporting that companies are still setting out to create new emulsions in the face of all the potential obstacles. So, let’s give this film a try.

Since so many of you drew a comparison to Orwo Wolfen NC500, I reached out to Lomography for an official statement. This is what I received:
„It is always quite interesting and entertaining to see all the theories brewing between film photography enthusiasts! We cannot give out any details for obvious reasons, but I can confirm that we developed and produced this new film for Lomography, it is not based on cine or motion picture film nor expired film stock.“
Interesting response, could be that Lomography has their own deal with Inoviscoat in Germany, since it's the only company in Europe making color film. That's the company that actually makes orwo NC400/500 film and probably metropolis film.
It is always quite interesting and entertaining when a film company that developed and produced their own film cannot give any details about it.
@@doozledumbler5393 They pretty much all do this. Even Ilford is pretty close to the chest about kentmere details
@@doozledumbler5393
Of course they don’t.
Why would they?
Man, the "We outside" guy is everywhere.
He invested that iphone release line money smart i guess
Finding out this film released and my photo is on the box from this video 🤯🤘🏽
that's sick bro congrats!
I think this film really looks so beautiful. Really has that kind of classic magazine look to me.
Pleasure developing this test roll for you! Thanks for trusting us (and for sending us back to the 90s ⏪).
Thank you! You did a great job.
I learned about Marc, his camera collection, and his music in your last video interview with him. I've been mesmerized with his music performances ever since. Thank you.
Great work Max! This new stock took me by surprise. Cool that you teamed up with Marc too 😁
Loop Daddy has transformed to Leica Daddy.
Haven't had the chance to shoot my roll yet but great to see the results you've gotten out of it. Will try to shoot it in more flattering lighting conditions.
Awesome video as always Max! Super cool that Lomography was able to create another completely unique emulsion!
Small detail, but I love how the girl in the photo at 9:23 acknowledged you were taking a picture and responded well to it by making the V sign. New Yorkers are certainly more accustomed to street photography than people in other places I've been to. It's always nice that people are cool about getting photographed. Oh, and being on a photowalk with Marc - man, what a privilege. He's an amazing guy. Cheers! //Rick
Lovely, something new from AnalogInsights, the best Film Channel since 2016, and my fave one here. Thanks Max!
Just ordered 3 rolls, can't wait to shoot it
Great images! Might have to try this✨
Tolle Bilder und eine Irre Stadt. ❤😎
As always - an informative and enjoyable video!
Very excited for this! And I hope it means Orwo is still in business and will continue making the Lomochrome and Kino films🤞
Loved this episode, film looks great and Marc is super cool and nice to see him out and about shooting- another string to his bow.
i love Marc even more now 😎
Was a good decision to give it to a lab. Your pictures look really different than what I got out of my roll. But I really liked that you were able to photograph it in new york. 👌
This stock reminds me of the Kodak VR films from the late 80s-early 90s. I seem to remember getting those cooler tones in daylight back then.
OMG! At first I was like. Why he looks so much like Marc Rebillet? Then paid attention to his facial expressions and dipped to the description and felt like a complete idiot hahaha. Such a cool guest! 😄
As always I enjoyed your presentation. It was nice to see a review of the new film within 10min of my having received an email from lomography about the film. Keep up the great work and the very interesting "real world" rather than chart analysis of film, camera and lenses.
It is very similar to orwo 400. I understand the cost of film but it is what it is and it’s exciting that more film stocks are coming out.
Hmm looks like ORWO NC400 film, what it probably is since Lomography and orwo are working close together. Still nice to have another colour film option.

Super episode! 😁
Great Video Max, fun to see this new film on the horizon and a fun experience watching you and Marc try it out in a new way as usual :) Looked like you guys had fun! cant wait to try the new stock out, too bad they are so late to get everything here in Sweden, still hardly been able to get the Lomo Turquoise in stores here after they relaunched that one. Have a good summer and happy shooting :) Still enjoying shooting with the Olympus OM-4 Ti and the lenses you recommended a while back for it.
Regards Martin.
I noticed that I tended to have that same eye, now I know why, thanks for sharing!
Great video!
Nice video and nice film. Really looks like old Japanese or Chinese movies being pretty cold. Makes for an interesting look. With color film prices going up new one is always a welcome addition. I still have few rolls or Ektar and Superia Xtra so I abstain for now, I do not want to freeze my money in film ;) but I will consider it when time comes to refill my stock.
Man i live in NYC and shoot with my M6 all the time, wish i would have seen you guys. I will definitely try this film.
Max thank you. Not sure why I didn’t get an email.
Ordered 10 rolls. Wish they sold 100ft section
I'd buy a 100' roll too.
Tellement terne, ça ne fait vraiment pas rêver
New to the channel. I just came across it today. I enjoyed the video presentation and your thoughts on the film stock. Thank you for sharing this! New subscriber.
Thank you for your kind words. Glad to have you as a new subscriber. 🙏🏻
I liked the video for the photography. The film also looked interesting, yet all depends on the pricing of this ' new ' film.
The blue basketball court just did it of me. Not so much the acutal court, but the colors and the shadow of the tree. I think this is going to be a great film choice.
Man I want a leica Marc Rebillet edition haha I would sell my SL2S for it 😂
Loop daddy!
Watched this and made me want to try delving into vlogging. I think you should do another video regarding what's best for editing. What programmes you use, how easy it is to use it. 👍👌
Leica × Lomo × Marc 🧡
HOLY SHIT ITS MARC
Let him cook
Loop Daddy ❤❤❤❤
Looks like ORWO NC400 but somehow priced even cheaper than ORWO? I'm willing to bet this is an ORWO stock but whether just a repackage or tweaked remains to be seen. Either way, it's always good to see new stocks come out and even if it's a repackage, the NC400 is a wonderful stock and there's no harm in having it sold to a wider audience as LOMO.
ORWO NC400 was literally the first thing I thought about when I saw this film. The thing is though, ORWO still hasn't fulfilled orders from over a year ago. How are they supplying Lomography while people are coming after them asking where their film is?
@@doozledumbler5393 no idea, I did receive mine though after some delays (US) and their supply seems pretty stable here
Please take a look at the pinned comment at the very top for an official statement from Lomography.
Just like Metropolis, it need to be overexposed to look good on skin tones. I actually prefer Lomo Color Negative 800. Any chance you would review Light Lens Lab 's 35mm F2 collapsible LTM?
Its nice but a little cold for my taste.
Important question: how did the film render Marc's trousers?
Oh wait, got to The Moment and very impressed!
It remains to be seen whether this film is a real alternative to CineStill. A big disadvantage of LomoChrome Color is the high price. In addition to the 12.90 euros, there is the same amount for processing the film in the LomoChrome laboratory. I don't understand why this is necessary, especially since this film can be processed as a normal color film. Or did I get this wrong?
So, I just asking. Doesn’t this film look like some expired roll of Gold 200?
And Chrome usually means transparency film.
How can a film be balanced for both daylight and tungsten?
But why call a color negative film "chrome"? In my book "chrome" films have always been slide films.
nice review but maybe it is orwo wolfen??
Please take a look at the pinned comment at the top for an official statement from Lomography.
tried to preorder and it won't let you
Marc? The hell you doing in analog world?
So what were these scanned on? There is absolutely no point about talking about the nuances of film characteristics without mentioning the display prep which makes at least 40-50% of the look.
We scan with a Noritsu HS-1800, tuned for a flat TIFF output.
@@gelatin-labs Did you scan Wolfen NC500 too? How do the two compare? I scanned NC500 on my Frontier and it was very very green.
We haven’t done a direct comparison… *yet*…
DO they not know "chrome" means transparency film?
I was just about to buy some of this and now I'm glad I didn't. - it's horrid. I'll stick t the standard Lomography 400 colour. fair play to Loop Daddy for doing the video
So hard to be a fair judge from my side of the CZcams screen
I've never seen a film stock make every person look like a green olive that has been sitting in a jar for 20 years. Absolutely useless to me.
Hey Max. Great update. The only issue with this stock, based on your scans, is the limited detail in the shadows. Perhaps you are at risk if you underexpose your image. Apart from that I can live with it.
more magenta/purple than blue tones in my opinion.
