- With the distinctive voice of lead singer Dennis Locorriere, American band Doctor Hook notched up ten UK chart hits between 1972 and 1980. This was their third UK chart entry, entering 30 October 1976 and peaking at #5.
This is a tender ballad filled with depth and emotion. To say it is beautiful would be an understatement. The vocals and harmonies are incredible

Love this song. Reminds me of a drive I took down the old Oregon coast road with a man I was falling in love with with each mile we travelled. From Vancouver, BC all the way to San Francisco and we listened to Dr. Hook a lot, when not setting loving eyes on each other. It was truly the most magical time of my life. At one point, going along the coast of the Oregon road, with no one in site and very few vehicles, he started to slow down to a complete stop, opened his door, reached down and picked something off the road. He then turned to me and with a quizzical smile and swallowing a lump in his throat, he handed me one of the most beautiful and perfect red roses that I had ever seen. We looked at each other with wonder and knowing that that red rose was meant for us. I still posses that rose and keep it pressed in a book for posterity and for the memories of a man whose love I will treasure and always remember driving down the breathtaking Oregon coast road and listening to Dr. Hook. 💕💜💘🌹
So thank you so much for this wonderful song. It has always been one of my favs. I lost it along the way when moving so again, thanks for the memories!
