First Cabin Camping in the Mountains | Camp Khawa 2023 | Baguio, Benguet

Typhoon Hanna had just passed but it was continuously raining hard as we traveled to Baguio.
Our excitement and plans were clouded with worries and overthinking due to bad weather.
Sometimes the weather improved which put our hope up...but not totally.
It was fortunate that we rented a small cabin to keep us warm and dry.
Every time it was raining, we knew that it will still take time for the sun to shine. We just had to love the sound of raindrops and appreciate the misty clouds around us. And see the beauty of it.
It was also a blessing that we brought an awning tent to extend the cabin outside and experience nature even though it was cold and raining.
We also give shelter to the sweet and gentle orange cat that we met and called him, Shanduk. Since the camping site's name is Khawa which sounds like kawa (caldron) with H and 'kawa' always need sandok (big scoop) for cooking. We thought it would be nice to name him Shandok with H too. And we decided to make it sound more korean and changed it to Shanduk.
We cooked macaroni soup with vegetables for our first breakfast and we had our favorite sweet corn, spread butter and sprinkled it with salt. The cold weather made our meal much more delicious, memorable and special.
Though we learned to love the rain, every night we were hoping on the next day to feel the warmth of the sun and to see clearly the beauty of the mountains.

After a couple of days, the sun started to shine.
We finally saw the majestic beauty of the mountains and rivers which seemed not affected by the storm. It still possesses the peaceful vibe of the mountains and trees which energize us and could calm our spirit too.
We had our first breakfast under the warmth of the sun. The usual meal like cornbeef with potato chunks and boiled eggs tasted great when we combine it with rice that we cooked using the traditional pot 'palayok'. It was truly amazing with different yet with special tastes.
It was our first time to make coffee using a presser.
Since the weather was nice, our dream for bonfire has come true.
It felt nostalgic to smell the burning wood and it brought me back to my childhood. The kids had an amazing time too because they were able to cook marshmallows while warming themselves in front of fire...a good and memorable moment that they could remember if they came across of that smell again.

The weather continuously improved and no more sign of bad weather. We were able to explore the place with much boldness.
It was an amazing experience to see a big bird flying freely above us. We are not sure if this is an eagle or just a hawk. It might be out for hunting or also enjoying the good weather.
We finally saw the amazing sunset on the mountains. It was much beautiful because of sea of clouds.
That night, it becomes more windy and it was a good time for a hot pot. But our fish balls were too many as it almost overflows from our small pot.
We watch some episodes of One Piece while enjoying our delicious and cute meal.

For our remaining days at the camp, we visited some of the areas nearby. There was road construction going on. (Great Wall of Baguio) It will be connected to Kennon road and shortcut to Loakan Airport. The popular Lion's Head can be seen from here.

It was an amazing vacation experience and very memorable for our first camping as a family. We truly enjoyed the place and we are grateful to experience all the weather in just one week of stay.
