on top of having a little bit of everything every other character has, he also has things that are completely unique to him
the only weaknesses he has is low health and the player and as big as those weaknesses are, he still doesn't have to deal with the associated shortcomings of his tools that are shared with other characters who have to deal with those things much more often
personally, if gamma blade worked in strive like it does in xrd, i think chipp would be the best character in the game
Oh my gosh your ending thoughts are so real with people downplaying their characters and just refusing to look at their strength and taking one aspect that they don’t absolutely excel at and being like “well they’re bad/ I’m fighting an uphill battle” not just in strive too this happens across all fighting games, I’ve been playing a lot of tekken recently and you wouldn’t believe the type of things people say to me about their character it’s absolutely wild. Having recently picked up Chipp online I was shocked at how strong he feels. I thought the low health would be overwhelming, but his mobility just makes every single matchup feel doable.
The fact that even minor hits often end with me getting positive bonus is just the cherry on top.
Having been a chipp main throughout my entire strive play time, I've always felt Chipp was strong because with his movement, he can adapt to almost any matchup. Chipp is probably one of the characters that make Happy Chaos sweat a little. It's his movement that allows him to have some advantage when his buttons are beat out by other characters. His offense is somewhat high risk, and I tend to struggle a lot against players who turtle, but when I do get the knockdown or wallbreak with the super, it's just a steamrolling that's coming next. I've thought of switching characters many times, but there are other times when I feel I haven't fully extracted the character's potential so I stick with him. In the end, it's his movement that keeps me staying. I'm trying to pickup a pocket Zato, but the movement is something I have to adjust to every time.

After frosty faustings I decided to pick up chipp to kill time before bedman and I lost so many matches until I finally got used to the play style and now I find myself having a ton of fun with the level of control you can have in a match with him.
Chipp is so fun to play but I'm too much of a gambler to do well with him. I inevitably take a hit and evaporate. Still, so fun to play.

Recently hit my stride with Faust/Leo in this game. Finally understanding the mechanics of the game through your content. I finally have a gameplan and can play at a level where I can have fun again

You forgot to mention when chipp won those 2 EVOs he had a pretty different identity. You basically could not block him & his point of strength IMO was mixing you up on block unlike now where his pressure is more interactive (but he has more rewarding conversions now). K alpha change + input lag reduction was huge for the way this char plays
Still trying to downplay your character while they won 2 evos is crazy. Your character was bullshit then and he’s still bullshit now
i feel like it was more that you were forced to block him all the time, since his gameplan was to j2k your sanity away
I'd argue if they never changed the alpha's or even j2k, Chipp's identity would have changed.
A fast/mixup character is always going to obliterate a playerbase who's relatively new to the game/meta and people who don't comprihend the MU.
Eventually his base mixups were always going to stop working and it's up to the playerbase to decide what comes after, strategy wise.

It is actually rare for characters *not* to have a way to alter their air movement - the only ones not capable of altering their air movement in some way are Goldlewis, Happy Chaos if we ignore his j.2K since it has to hit or be blocked and Giovanna if we ignore her air overdrive.

@@KingAfrica4 Ah, I knew about air behemoth typhoons so i checked out some videos but it didn't look like it altered his air movement, maybe it was too subtle for me or maybe I watched the wrong videos.
@@ohad557 it is a pretty subtle change. You're not really going anywhere different, just varying your landing timing and distance slightly. I believe you can brc out and retain momentum for some wacky stuff though
My favourite part about Chipp is that he has a 10:10 match up against Potemkin

Switching from Axl (xrd main) to Chipp in Strive was such a fun decision. He feels super strong, and I only really struggle in match ups where the person likes to swing constantly (nago, anji, baiken). But thats a player style MU for me more than the character. His greatest weakness is making an imput error, like missing reka reka super, which I finally figured out why I was fucking it up lol.
Interesting was the old gamma blade like that? I guess there would be an uproar if he got his old teleports back. I like strive chipp I just miss his ports.
I think what you say about playing too fast as Chipp is very true. He's very strong as a whiff punish character so I think if you mix in a reactive playstyle with going ham he becomes much stronger.
Can you give us names of the Chipp downplayers, so the rest of us Chipp realists can chat with them(with violence) and put the "chipp downplayer" allegations to rest?

I said it on a Kizz video but the only players who seriously downplay Chipp are people who don’t actually play him. They just see him getting blown up in a funni youtube video and think simply hitting him is enough to deal with his shenanigans. Like have you guys ever actually played against a halfway decent Chipp? The match turns into a single player game as soon as you whiff one button against him.

I lose to 2 sin player today, I don't understand how to punish his beak diver with chipp.
I can interupt his follow up but the beak diver itself just such a problem when got hit by that in neutral.
Can I punish beak diver on whiffs? Any tips?
Make Sin approach you if you can. Beak Driver along with a bunch of his normals are embarrassingly punishable on whiff.
If Sin misses beak driver he's omega punishable, just abuse Chipp speed to make him whiff then punish him.
In the case he hits you, he has 3 options, he can:
1- Cancel into the follow up, that you can either block or dp.
2- Cancel into gazelle step to throw, which you beat by either backdashing, jumping, teching or stoping the dash with a low
3-Doing nothing
It's an RPS basically, the safest option it's to just block, it beats options 1 and 3 and if he throws you it's whatever. And after he does the moves a couple of times, you have to notice if he's being predictable, and pick the option that punishes him.
TLDR: make him whiff beak driver and punish him, if you get hit just block the follow up.
You have to out neutral him dude, just like you do with Ky. Chipp is not good into fast and long button, you gotta make those whiff to get in.

when people downplay chipp it kinda speaks to either 1 the type of player they are or 2 the type of players they have fought. Chipp never scares me because all the chipps I see personally are the exact opposite of the average Millia player. random online Chipps are never risk aversive, they hardly whiff punish instead opting to bum rush in your face with the goated run speed. Playing like that in strive is asking for a death wish if anyone knows anything about Chipp.
Wait til you find the Chipp that waits for you and actually do things properly, those are real threat. You whiff one button against them, you have to shet ur pants

I will say as a Chipp main. Chipp player has 2 types either
Apes that just wanna abuse speed and ignore basics and being bad at the game OR A goated Chipp that is degenerate good, whiff punishing everything and use dirty set ups in every situation. You rarely see middle class.
@@ghostblade1042 Yeah it's a very hard knock life with them and it makes getting match up practice. At least decent match up practice hard to do.
It's cool because sol is just chipp with more damage and more health but slower moving and with one less jump and people act like he's the worst character in the game. He has nearly all the same tools to win and unreal damage output but certain people will still downplay even after objective data proves that he's a good character. Chipp gets this constantly. People still downplay LEO ffs
@@mattb6616 people who say Sol is the worst are on copium. You can’t tell me a character that can convert every stray hit into a big damage combo is a bad cha. Plus he can convert his 3 frames 5k into a full kill.

I know this is a rookie question but what fight stick would you guys recommend for series x? Picked this and KOF up and want to Practice and Get better.
You don't need a fightstick but if you want one that is cheap and still has good sanwa parts the mayflash elite series seems to be the best cost to quality, just make sure it specifically says it has the sanwa parts, other mayflash sticks are lower quality and results may vary. Aside from that, any of the major brand names are generally fine. Just don't go with a super cheap one that looks like a toy, those are generally not even worth the 30-50 bucks they go for. A decent fightstick is at the lowest gonna cost 80-100 bucks, average around 100-150 and high end upwards of 200. USD
Once again, a fightstick isn't necessary and if you aren't used to it it will take a while to get a feel for it. You probably know this though.
@@charliericker274 I appreciate the feed back, I'll look into the may flash with sanwa parts. There's not a lot of options for the Xbox and just wanted to get a good fight stick to learn on. Street fighter 6, guilty gear, Tekken 8 all on Xbox now and it's an exciting time for fighting game fans.
I needed one for Killer Instinct so I bought the HORI fighting stick alpha for series s/x and it's been good for about a year. It was about $200 last I saw them, that being said I recently got a universal mixbox but that's going to be a lot more expensive but works on everything

He's very good imo. He just may struggle against high damage non-heavy character's if he get's hit. Round start sometimes feels like the deciding factor if he wins or not

He just so fast. I struggle to punish any of his moves in neutral as leo. I rather block and dp him to start my pressure or use my guard point and hope he throws something I can punish before he sweeps or grabs me. He's a problem for slower characters. RIP potemkin or goldlewis players who don't have DP.

Been saying for a while now that both Zato and Chipp are probably S tier, there's just few people who can really play them well enough to show it... Yet. I suspect they will naturally drift up tiers as the game gets older, even if they only get minimum changes.

I say this more because I find the majority of Chipp and Zato players easy to beat, but occasionally I'll run into one that I can't even touch, and the difference in their play and skill level is night and day. You can see the skill gap just in the way they use the character.
In Chipp's case, the immediate telltale sign is when they can full stage corner carry with alpha blade loops, and convert stray hits into corner carry, or a wall run combo. Then it just becomes a question of how good they are in neutral: If they know how to use Chipp's speed and good buttons, I basically have to be careful trying to do *anything* at all.
Generally if you see them converting off of random hits into corner carry, what that means is they know his toolkit well enough that you're not safe no matter where you are. One mistake, and you're eating an optimal combo into wall break, and it doesn't matter where you're standing or what your neutral is like.
The better they can convert stray hits, the more in danger you are, because Chipp's ability to whiff punish and make weird situations that lead to counterhits is second to none in the game.
His skill ceiling is gigantic if you can react to the sort of chaotic exchanges that happen randomly in GG, but very few people can do that well, even at the highest level of play. So I'm just waiting for some nightmarish Chipp player to come along that can, who just flattens everyone at tournaments for simply trying to play the game.

He has low room for error, but when you're as good as he is in every phase of the game there just aren't that many different things you can do that are actually "wrong".

Having been playing Chipp since xx reload, Strive's Chipp made me quit the game, sadly. I feel I would whine about him like Lord Knight points out Chipp players do, I don't do it cause I think Chipp's weak. He's just a very different character to play for me now, and it causes frustration. I know lots of Chipps did make a transfer to Strive, like Samitto, but not me. New style of mechanics and very different Chipp in Strive is like double whammy that really demoralised me from learning the game. That and the fact that i'm bad lol. Guess the frustration mentioned is still in current legacy Chipp players, missing the teleports, the invis, the wall cling, etc, causing them to be more salty about the game.
