Every time I’ve gotten a trim from a professional it looked like I lost about 2 inches- it’s always a serious haircut that I was not looking for or expecting. Why are professionals so ✂️ happy?
I highly recommend a moisturizing deep conditioning before getting a trim, a lot of stylists mistake dryness for split ends (with natural hair). In some instances they just don’t communicate well with the client. My thoughts are: if you need to cut more than what most people would consider a trim, you need to discuss it with the client and get their approval.

Also you could try to find another stylist that isnt so scissor happy. Bc my stylist and i have the exact opposite arguement... i want her to cut more and she wont lol..
I don’t know what it is, but I only had one stylist in my adult life that knew what she was doing, had growing hands (like they said back in the day) and took excellent care of my hair. That was back in 03’ . She past away from cancer ( May she Rest In Peace) I’ve yet to find a stylist I can trust with my hair here in New York.
I was a press and curl girl who took the leap and went heat free back in May this year. Taking a break from the blow dryer, flat iron, hot comb, curling iron) . I’m praying to find someone who I can trust with my strands. 🙏🏾
PS- when it gets cold here, my hair ALWAYS starts to shed . I’m trying to learn my hair. It’s a process. 😀

My hair definitely needs a trim! I no longer straighten my hair and im worried my curls will be butchered. Do you have any recommendations on how to find a good stylist that has experience doing natural hair? Love your channel and videos!
I often stop people who I see with natural hair that is styled well. Natural stylists who are skilled can be hard to find!

It helps a lot! I just stopped a lady today so I could find a stylist for some of my former clients. I stay asking people about their hair!

I trim my hair myself. I am German and no stylists know about my hair Afro- texture. Then this ethnic salon popped up and I went their. The lady, who was African, just annihilated my hair. It was so uneven and really short on the top. Never again. I trim myself and my hair is flourishing.

I am very guilty of needing a trim! Its been 7 months :(. Just so frustrated with the lack of knowledge, in my area, about textured hair.
The struggle is real sometimes! Good stylists for textured hair can be hard to come by!
This is by far the best video I've seen on split ends, and I have them for sure, and I have been trimming my hair myself for the past few months. I now wear a satin lined beanie to bed, and my hair is really retaining growth. Now, I need to be better about detangling, but I've come a long way from someone who was so depressed about my hair that I didn't wash it for over six months. Baby steps. Thanks for your great videos. I've learned so much.
PS I know you said not to trim your own hair, but I only use professional hair cutting scissors. I'm not overly concerned about my hair being even, and even though I have been trimming it periodically, it's been retaining growth.

Such an informative, entertaining and funny video! I’m getting my hair trimmed today! I noticed a couple of single strand knots while doing my hair and I rarely get those unless I have split ends. Shed hair can easily get tangled up in split ends and cause ssk’s. Fortunately, I have a great natural hair stylist that I trust who never trims more than we agreed on without consulting with me first.

Both, split ends break off, and that breakage furthers split ends. The only fix is trimming.
@@GetGlamFam so for me to stop breakage is to cut off my split emds ?
That’s partially true, the number one cause of breakage is dryness, but when hair breaks it automatically splits, and that splitting leads to more breakage.
That being said, focus on moisture first, and then a trim, it should make a massive difference in that hair 😉👍🏽

I have holes is the shaft of my hair which lead to split ends. Can you tell me how to prevent this? I don’t use any heat on my hair, so I know it’s not heat damage. I’ve asked other beauticians and they look at me like in crazy.

More great info! Thanks so much. I have a question and you may have addressed it in a prior video, but here goes; on average, how often should one deep condition their hair?
You can deep condition as frequently as you need. I have had some clients that I have deep conditioned several days in a row because they tore up their hair with box color. For regular maintenance, you could do every 1-2 weeks, so long as that feels manageable. 😊👍🏽 Great question!
