In the scene when the lady finds her baby dead after Danny Glick attacks him, all King writes is that her dressing gown slips off one shoulder as she runs down the hall. That’s hardly sexualizing her. And that story at the end isn’t an epilogue. It’s a totally separate short story that originally appeared in the collection Night Shift.

So Bookworms - what's your favorite Stephen King book? I honestly do know what mine is, but Dolores Claiborne is definitely up on the list...

Stephen King is my fave author and my fave book by him is Pet Sematary. Love the atmosphere in it. I didn't like The Shining much either. I like theJack Nicholson movie better and I guess that is an unpopular opinion. Sorry about your loss. My cat died in 2017 and losing a pet is way too hard.❤

I also enjoyed the movie version of The Shining better. Not one of my favorite films, but still better than the book... And thanks for your kind words regarding my cat. Yes, losing a pet is horrible.

Totally agree with the characters being called M - I just got so confused. Too many characters for me, and the book was too long - lots of extra information which I felt didn't add to the story. A great review though.

Sorry for your loss. Cookie was so beautiful and I bet she blessed you all through her life, I love these pets, as I myself have 3 "ladies" here at home and can fully understand your feelings about this loss. Hope you recover from it soon. I just came across your video when I was trying to get some stuff to practice my listening and comprehension involving my favorite theme and author. Thanks for this review and hello from Brazil.

Thank you, all the best to you and your fur babies. I have a new cat now, Seven, and she is wonderful. Definitely didn't realize how sad I was without a cat in my life!

It would appeared you got one of the later reprints/editions of Salems' Lot that seems to have included a short story that King wrote later and was first published in one of his short stories anthologies.

Have to disagree with the Bookworm on one point on my favorite Stephen King Novel Salem's Lot Thought it was getting kind of silly when they found the note from Barlow in the basement but thought he really made a rebound with a brillant ending (also being a huge fan of the novel and '79 movie know the editor really involved in changing the later part of the novel) when they basically re-started the fire of '51 the previous only major event to happen to Salem's Lot which happened in Ben's childhood last time he lived there before the Vampire Infestation so it brought events around full circle thought it a brillant ending if you catch that??!!!

Salems Lot one of the best horror novel from SK before he become overly verbose in his later works

Like the Tommyknockers, where he devoted the first 50 pages to digging something out of the ground?

I first read Salem's Lot at 15 and read it 5 or 6 times since (I'm now 52). I got King burnout by Needful Things and got annoyed with his heavily condensing (it took 15 pages for someone to open a door situation). I think too much wordiness can be counterproductive. I did like the Marsten connection to Barlow when Marsten was alive (town facts nobody knew about, ie secrets).

Yes, King does tend to over-elaborate. Did you read anything he wrote in recent years? I feel his writing got more concise.

@thebookworm6554 I got Salem's Lot in audio. I can't get in to his new work. Not sure if it was the accident he had in 99 or his getting sober that changed his writing. His earlier work was definitely dark and am told newer work less so.

Completely random question but what is the book on the shelf with the little boxes down it's spine? I've seen it on several vids but can never see it clearly. And btw, you are completely on target re Salems Lot. And the Epilog was ridiculous

Sure, base your assumptions on that. But be aware that it might not work, they were so certain they put themselves (and loved ones) in really great danger based on assumptions. But hey, I have no idea how I would act in that kind of situation, so...
