  • Some people are multi-talented. They can do just about anything they put their mind to. But everyone needs some help at some point. Could you repair your own car? Could you fix your washing machine? Could you mend your favourite bag? If you couldn't or if you don't want to do these things yourself, you need to get someone to do them for you. Grammatically we use a form called the causative to talk about this. Dan tells us all about it in the video. Find out more here www.bbc.co.uk/l...

    That was a fantastic explanation. An example of mine is: I have my house cleaned. Another can be: I've had my personal information secured. Thanks ❤.

    • @mgzapata88
      @mgzapata88 Před 4 lety

      It is future perfect in passive voice. You use this tense to indicate that something will be done/finished before another action (in this case, the end of the video)

      @bbclearningenglish  Před 7 měsíci +1

      👍 Good example of the causative! As this happened a few years ago, we need to use the past form of 'have', which is 'had' - so we would say: 'I had my house painted a few years ago' 😊

      Hi Sangita. The correct version would be: 'My mother needs to have her heart fixed'. You can use 'fix' for non-tangible things too - you can fix a problem, fix a relationship etc.
