The Green Bay Packers offense was one of the league’s biggest surprises late last season, a positive one, if you’re into that sort of thing. With Jordan Love entering Year 2 as a starter and with a big payday on the way, all eyes will be on Green Bay’s offense to take another step forward and push for a championship. While Jordan Love’s confidence and chemistry with improving young receivers was a big part of the late-season growth, another factor was getting some juice from the running game. The Packers missed Aaron Jones for most of the year. When he was finally back in full form, he was a difference-maker. Aaron Jones return allowed for a more balanced offense. Unfortunately, Aaron Jones is now with our divisional rival, the Minnesota Vikings in one of the most off-season moves. While his absence as a player and a person won’t easily be replaced, the overall state of the running back group might be better than it was at this point last year. If the Packers running back group are the new additions of Josh Jacobs and Marshawn Lloyd are as advertised, coupled with a returning AJ Dillion and Emanuel Wilson, Green Bay’s rushing attack could be an early strength and contribute to a well-balanced offense. Between the offensive line’s early struggles and Aaron Jones injury issues, the Packers were not a great rushing team in 2023-24. The team’s 1,905 rushing yards were in middle of the pack in the league. It took until Week 15 for the team to have a 100-plus-yard rusher, with Aaron Jones putting up 127 yards against the Carolina Panthers. Aaron Jones then would have over 100 rushing yards in every one of Green Bay’s remaining games, including 2 playoff games. Aaron Jones led the Green Bay Packers in rushing yards, with 656 rushing yards, as mentioned, most of these yards came toward the end of last season. While Aaron Jones played in 11 games, he was limited in many of them. In relief, AJ Dillion handled RB1 duties, totaling 613 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. Jordan Love actually led the Packers in rushing TD’s, with 4 of them total. He was also 3rd on the team in rushing yards, with 247 of them total. Patrick Taylor, (141 yards total), a frequent practice squad call-up who finished the season elsewhere, and our rookie wide receiver Jayden Reed (119 yards total), finished 4th and 5th, respectively. Losing Aaron Jones won’t be easy, but otherwise, there are reasons to believe that the running game will get off to a better start in 2024-25. The Josh Jacobs addition is a massive boon for the Green Bay Packers. While his 2023-24 NFL season wasn’t ideal (mainly in part due to injuries, a shaky offensive line, and instability with coaching and quarterbacks), he’s still only a year removed from leading the NFL in rushing yards. Josh Jacobs didn’t participate early in QTA’s, but he looks fully healthy and integrated into the offense for mandatory minicamp. On Tuesday, Josh Jacobs had a 60-yard TD in 11-on-11’s where he broke away. Not even Eric Stokes, one of the fastest players on defense, could catch him. As always, we’ll see how things look when the pads come on. But if Josh Jacobs is close to his 2022-23 self, he’ll be a major factor in this Matt Lafluer Green Bay Packers offense. Green Bay’s offensive line started out slowly the past 2 seasons, and it’s been better at pass protection than run blocking. However, while the Packers are still figuring out their ideal OLine configuration, they have a much better handle on each member’s strengths and weaknesses. However, it works out and it should be the best offensive line Josh Jacobs has played with in his career. A strong passing game also makes the new Packers RB1’s life easier. Jordan Love will be the best quarterback that Josh Jacobs has played with. Surprisingly, Josh Jacobs has yet to record a receiving touchdown in his career, which should definitely change this season. Josh Jacobs should at least be comparable to Aaron Jones in his fully healthy, productive NFL seasons. But Josh Jacobs alone isn’t the only reason our rushing attack should be strong. While AJ Dillion returned to Green Bay on a 1-year deal and proved capable when the Packers called upon him, 3rd-round rookie Marshawn Lloyd might be the real difference-maker and could slide into a RB2 role early in his career. Running back is one of the easiest positions to transition from the college football level to the Pro’s, and we see young running backs break out every year. Marshawn Lloyd is already consistently impressing media members and his teammates through the offseason program. Marshawn Lloyd brings the small and shifty element to our running back room. His speed and change of direction ability and adds a fun element to our Packers offense. Many analysts believed that Green Bay got the best running back in this 2024 NFL draft class, and he could complement Josh Jacobs with his unique skillset as RB2 right off the bat. Green Bay also has AJ Dillion, a proven teammate who knows offense, and Emanuel Wilson, a promising former UDFA. Emanuel Wilson didn’t see much of the spotlight last season, even occasionally overshadowed by practice squad members, but he will have a shot to show how he’s developed. The Packers are deeper at running back than last season, they added significant speed, and have a solid offensive line and passing game to work with. In addition, Matt Lafluer has let our offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, a running-game specialist, call plays through QTA’s and minicamp. That’s a good recipe for getting our running game going early. Josh Jacobs and company should offer the Packers a reliable rushing attack to create a balanced Packers offense and make life easier for Jordan Love in his 2nd full NFL season as our starting quarterback. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

Dillon is coming pretty cheap and cutable if he is not great. He knows the offense, can block, and can catch - a good guy to keep around. And anyone that will take reasonable pay has self awareness and those are good people to have around. I think we might have some better depth at RB this year.

@@tthompson4768 that’s one position you definitely want in tact throughout the year. I like Gilmore, but it seemed like he ran out of gas last year. He wasn’t that great in the playoffs. He would be a good late or mid season addition if still available. He’ll be fresh and healthy.

AJ Dillon thrives in November and December. That's when he is at his best. The problem is that he struggles early in the season and last season, Aaron Jones was injured in the early months. However, AJ Dillon started to show flashes in the second half of the season, as he does, and then he got injured. I just don't think he is as bad as some make him out to be and he especially thrives at the time of year when the Packers are making a playoff push.

  • @Glenn-vn7if
    @Glenn-vn7if Před měsícem

I agree with you, this running attack should be awesome. I am hoping Dillon has a bounce back season. However I still view him as a secondary or situational back. Lloyd's highlights look amazing. He can stop and start on a dime and has an incredible jump cut. He's gotta gain the coach's trust in ball security and pass pro blocking. If not he'll be on the sidelines until he gains their trust.
    Can't wait! Go Pack Go!

Either Jones isn't 207 or Lloyd weighs more than 210. Bc Lloyd looks A LOT bigger than Jones in muscle mass, so much so I find it hard to believe they're that close in weight. I'm gonna say Lloyd is probably more like 220 or Jones is more like 195.

Did I hear you say Jones lost his explosiveness & speed? Are you freaking kidding me man!
Aaron Jones ran off a clip of 6 100+ games to end his tenure with the Green Bay Packers.
You must of missed those last 6 games. Really you think Aaron Jones has lost it do you?
He was the heartbeat of this offense & team the past 5 years. Sad to see him go for sure.
Had bonehead coach ran him 1st half over 6 1st down incompletions vs SF they'd won SB!
In an effort to replace Aaron Jones they overpaid for Josh Jacobs 11.5 million a season.
Something I personally think was much too much after the very worst season of his career.
They also drafted Marshawn Lloyd a RB many projected to be the top RB in the 2024 draft.
With that we're still not certain they can fill the big shoes Aaron Jones played in this offense!
Gute loaded the Josh Jacobs deal with the guaranteed money up front so he has an exit door.
Just in case Jacobs plays like 2023 rather than his stellar 2022 season with the Raiders.
If he does Gutekunst will simply cut him at season's end & walk away from the deal on Josh.
(As a matter of fact if Lloyd were to ball in his rookie season he could be RB1 come 2025!)
He figured Josh younger & more durable. A proven 3 down back who should be a work horse.
Aaron Jones obviously aging & injury prone in the past couple of seasons as we are aware.
Josh Jacobs took the big number in the deal & bet on himself. We'll see if he was right.
Do we get the 2023 Josh Jacobs worst season of his career or NFL best 2022 version?
Jacobs a 3 down work horse & Lloyd on the field not going to leave many touches for AJ.
AJ is simply insurance because he has experience with the team & can catch the ball.
He is there due to this fact while Marshawn Lloyd develops & learns scheme & to block.
Lloyd had some big issues with fumbles in college & he has to develop first in pass pro.
If & once he does AJ is likely not going to get many touches at all for this Packers team.
AJ also still has to ensure he beats out Emanuel Wilson in camp. That's no guarantee!
Wilson has a camp like he did last season the best of any NFL RB AJ may be gone.
It was great to hear though that AJ Dillion showed up to camp looking very buff.
He'd better be at his very best because the odds are stacked against him this season.
AJ took less to stay with the Packers so his heart lies with this team. Hope it's enough!
You'd best pray Aaron Jones is hurt & out of the lineup when Packers play the Vikings.
Or you just might see some of that explosiveness & speed you think he's lost now!
    Go Pack Go!

Jacobs, Lloyd, and Dillon are a better backfield than Jones and Dillon. Jacobs and Lloyd are stronger and younger than Jones and Dillon is more durable than Jones. This has the potential to be the best running back room the Packers have ever had.

Your a nice kid but you don't know everything! Seems like Dillon has been hampered by injuries as much as Jones. Do they ever give A.J. the ball out of play action? Look at the film when B.C. played Louisville and Jarie Alexander tried to solo tackle him, Poor JA looked like he got hit by the A-train! Just because I called you a kid doesn't mean you're not a packer. I know you love the Packers, and so many of us Packer fans hurt when Our packers leave us(like A. Jones). But remember when Matt Flynn and James Jones left us and then returned. I think Matt was Working construction and came back and took us to the playoffs. James came back and caught 8 touchdown passes in the first 8 games of that season!!(all while wearing a hoodie under his jersey)! Yes, being a Packer fan is something special so I wanted to leave you with a great memory of mine. I am 65 now and about 30 years ago my brother and I went to get Zeke Bratkowski's autograph at the National sports card convention in Rosemont, Illinois. I had an 8X10 of Zeke and Vince Lombardi standing on the sidelines looking over a playbook. I asked Zeke what was he like , "he made us want to win for him". I was moved. A few years later I saw an ESPN special on Vince Lombardi. In it I remember Vince's brother saying(at the funeral)"I looked at his players and they all seemed lost" and that included Packer, Giant, and Redskin players.
