At 68 I actually cried hearing about this on Talk Sport Radio and then watching the trailer... having started the MIllwall Lionesses in 1973 I knew nothing about this, shameful of the FA here in England. For years back in the 70's our team experienced misogyny from both men and women!... personally, I wouldn't have been as skilled as those ladies but to have to mentally fight just to be able to play the game I loved was heart breaking.... well done for bringing this out.. hopefully it will educate those who are still cynical

Same the first time I saw women football was the games there showed in the mid 1980s and marriane spacey , hope I got her name right and I think scoring one of the best goals at Wembley I think it was a 40 yard top corner . anyway to play in this wonderful Copa 71 and huge crowd of , over 100,000 at the ages that some of them where . then do that when they got back is shameful

Can't wait to see this. I played football with the boys at school in 1971 - they were kind boys - unlike some of the comment makers on here. How sad the world has been with centuries of patriarchal and misogynistic ways. This is changing and the little comment making boys seem not to be able to cope with even tiny changes.

Mexico 70 was one the highest points of an era of big changes and evolution in the World. An iconic World Cup with many innovations and brilliant players in many teams. 71 was not the exception. I think that the society was not prepared for many of these changes.

"Tan cerca de las nubes" recounts the experience of the host nation's team (Mexico), in the run-up and aftermath of the tournament. Very poignant. Amazing group of women. Trailer: czcams.com/video/EhIbzgQdzhg/video.html

I am going to look bad, now. I was growing up in Mexico City when this tournament happened. I was at school. I watched the World Cup in 1970 and remember a lot of it. But I do not remember this female World Cup at all!.
Maybe they did not show it on the telly.

Such brilliance. Erased by pathetic types of men who can't stand women having any power... What seeing this power can do for other women. This is why we fight the patriarchy.

I mean, I'm generally not interested in it either although this particular story of the '71 World Cup is interesting. But, you know, if you're really not interested in any of it at all, maybe just don't watch it? You don't need to comment like a whiny baby.
