- Is it an ignition coil problem? Or Is it something more.

I experience bucking at highway speeds at around 1800rpm and at 55mph changed spark plug wires rotor button all nine yards but no check engine light
I've read in forums that the way these connect is the issue. The 90° angle they sit at and the weight of the harness plus the vibrations from driving will make them have a poor connection and cause it to stall and stumble. One fix was a homemade bracket made from a 9" long 1" wide x1/8" thick plates bolted on the back and front of the pcm across the connectors with 4" long 1/4" bolts and wing nuts on both sides 1/4" in on both plates and then tightened down not to hard but firm enough to keep good connection some people use zip ties but that puts stress on the pins in awkward positions plus they stretch and give over time
That was very helpful and thank you for the video. But I have one more question? Where do I find a cable and hood latch for the front of my 97 jeep? Nobody seems to have them?
I just bought one a few weeks back from RockAuto.com SKP SK721014. Like $7 Copy/Paste 270947435242903958 into "Where did you hear about us" field at checkout to get 5% of the merchandise cost. DO NOT get the Dorman unit. You will thank yourself later. For the latch itself, try DeadJeep.com. They are a used parts retailer.
I have the same problem on this Cherokee but I am from Mexico and have done the same fixing problems rotor cap coil cmp sensor ckp sensor and have same problem I think have the same problem the ECU unit but is to expensive here en México havevto Sell the truck to junk yard
I have a 97 jeep grand cherokee 5.2 and I have replaced dam near everything I can think of besides the ecu. So whats going on is it started about 5 months ago having a random misfire it was like all ignition signal was lost and it would come back and go away and come back and be fine. It didn't matter if I was on the free way or in town. I have gone thro 5 coil packs and it is still doing it. I have replaced the following
Cps, tps, map, both 02 sensors, ignition switch, cap and rotor and plugs and wires. And it only does this so called random hiccup or missfire when the engine gets to operating temp. I don't have the p0351 code as of right now but it was on there. Can you think of something im not thinking of besides replacing the ecu. And on another note will a 98 5.9 ecu work on a 5.2 engine set up?
I am unsure of the 5.2-5.9 fitment. SIDE NOTE: 97's only were offered with the 4.0 or the 5.2 While it is running, try the "wiggle-test" of the connectors of the ECU. IF your 97 has the "failing solder connection" issue, it will should spit-sputter or stall. If you feel like tackling the soldering problem, there are several CZcams videos that can point out the solder joints that require attention. P0351 code is not always set when this problem starts happening. IF you decide to go the "new" route with the ECU, double and triple check the OEM numbers for the unit you are purchasing match your 97's. Hope this helps in some way.
I have a 4.0 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo straight 6 , it idles rough at a stoplight. It sputters and try to cut off while driving and even backfires . I replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs. Please help
While its sitting idling,, try doing a "wiggle-test" on the ECU/PCM wiring harnesses and note if the engine acts up. IF it does, try disconnecting and re-installing the 3 main connectors.
I did that already. My spark plugs had oil on the thread and some rust. I change the valve cover and replace the crankshaft hose
Valve cover gasket** but it still stalls and try’s to cut off
having the same problem with my 01 wj, runs better in park/neutral, lmk if you find a solution
@@splooof check the ecm/pcm I replaced mine and it fixed the problem
Did P0351 come back after swapping the PCM? Wondering if it just needed up working for a bit and then started stalling again.
P0351 has not reared its ugly head. Other codes, yes. But not P0351.
@@EverydayOffRoad Outstanding! Thanks for the speedy reply. Just ordered a refurb pcm from flagship 1. Lifetime warranty. Ignition coil is fairly new. Something I noticed was the connector to the coil doesn’t click to lock in and has a tiny bit of play. I ended up pushing the connector in all the way and wrapping it with self fusing tape.
@@mikez9799 Keep me updated on the ECM purchase. I priced an ecm from flagship 1, and I have to say, not a bad price
@@EverydayOffRoad will do!
What about the random stalling? I guess I should’ve asked that instead. Did it keep stalling and shutting off on ya?
I replaced my PCM and it worked for 4wks then started giving my problems again. P0153 coil code came back... any suggestions? I’ve replaced the coil, plus, wires, cap/rotor and CPS.
Why was the PCM replaced? Is it because of the DTC P0351?
Everyday OffRoad yes I replaced the pcm. The jeep drove perfect for 4wks and now it doesn’t start. It’s reading code 43/p0351. Before the pcm, it was doing the same thing. I put the new pcm in and it started right up.
The replacement PCM: was it a USED unit or a REFURBISHED? ,Mike
Everyday OffRoad Refurbished.
I hate to say it...I think you either have a bad replacement or a wiring issue.
