The Word Bearer breathed a single word as he watched the sea of screaming souls beyond.

The daemon’s maw twisted into a grin. 'Now you begin to understand'.
Remember, if you ever feel like nobody loves you and you don't believe yourself, grandfather Nurgle loves you, grandfather Nurgle believes in you.

It was the word of the true deities that made demigods break their chains to a false Emperor and become truly divine. Glory to the Dark gods and glory to Chaos.

Knowledge and Power.
Immortality.
Freedom from pain and agony.
All of my enemies fallen before me.
Pleasures beyond imagining.
At first I feared them.
I begged, pleaded, prayed to the God Emperor to banish the voices.
To make the constant, unceasing voices stop.
To have my dreams free from the sounds of damnation.
But salvation never came.
He did nothing.
The whispers still come, stronger than ever.
They filled my mind with new thoughts, new fears, and... doubt.
They told me the Emperor is nothing more than a rotting corpse upon a gilded throne.
That there was no point in praying to an ever decaying husk.
That in this stagnating Imperium, I was less than nothing to those above me.
That to them, all that I was good for was working myself to the bone, and when needed, a pawn to hold back the ever moving march of their enemies.
I realized at that moment, the voices were right.
I was nothing.
The Emperor was dead.
The Imperium was dying.
Filled with corruption, and fueled by the suffering of the loyal citizens they swore to protect.
In the end... I was nothing.
But, maybe I could change this.
Maybe I could open my mind.
And let the whispers of Chaos claim me at last."

I put this on in headphones while reading a few of the short stories in "Mark of Calth". Was perfect accompanying music. Especially during the Word Bearers stories.
I read a really fucked up warhammer 40k fanfic with this as the backround and it really enhanced the experience. Iron within, Iron without!
