I’m not much of an editor but I couldn’t believe no one’s done this song before.... anyway, every day I get emotional about “I’ll believe it all/ I won’t let go of your hand”
im crying, this is so good. I love the order you presented the dynamics in, like Juri/Shiori, then Touga/Saionji, until finally coming to Utena/Anthy. It feels like the sequence of events is saying something, like the preceding dynamic says something about the one that follows it. Moreover, I like how the relationships go from least complex to most complex (or completed, perhaps?). We're shown Juri's wish to be close with Shiori, and her betrayal, then we're shown Saionji and Touga's childhood bond and the implications of how Touga's abuse/premature introduction into the adult world has ruptured their relationship and Saionji's attempts to grow more adult/understand more in order to regain what has been lost, but then we're also shown that their relationship isn't quite gone because Touga still leans upon him, he still has him aid him in his duel. And then we move onto Anthy and Utena and the questions of the Apocalypse Arc - will Anthy stand by Akio, will Utena and Anthy stay together - and then we're shown that though they separated from the platform, Anthy is able to leave Ohtori Academy. It's like we move from a 2D rendering of Juri and Shiori's broken relationship (like the events that took place and the feelings involved) into a 3D rendering of Touga/Saionji's where we are given more insight into the circumstances that caused their separation, where the concept of the adult world and grooming is introduced, and we're given an optimistic, albeit open end of the status of their relationship and their standing with each other, to a 4D rendering of Utena/Anthy's where Anthy's abuse takes center stage, where their simultaneously fraying and strengthening relationship is the climax and culmination of these series of friendships because it combines the betrayal and misunderstanding of Shiori and Juri, with the maturity divide and trauma of Touga and Saionji. Moreover, there's this question of which route will they take - will they separate like Juri and Shiori? Will they reach a tentative understanding like Touga and Saionji? Will there be something more? And so - when despite their efforts to stay together, their hands slide free of each other, it feels so impactful. Even though they are separated, they both manage to leave the wires, of Ohtori and Akio, leaving the complex of abuse altogether, and because they held on despite their betrayals, their bond is all the stronger for it. My thoughts are super rough! But I just really really like how you selected the characters/scenes used for this amv, and how the visuals, rhythm, and lyrics sync up.
the "he is a liar" that played over akio was so gooood!! and all of the shots of utena and anthy's hands!! from her bloody hands prying the coffin open, to all of the sequences where their hands met, to her bloody hand reaching out with anthy's, to the closing shot where they let go! so good! so cool! also the beginning of their sequence where it switched between their younger and older faces, also great!
thanks for putting this amv together! it's incredible, and i can't imagine the amount of work that went into making it. i enjoyed it a lot!

I love this song and how loving and understanding it is, “there’s nothing I won’t understand...” So I wanted to play with these three pairs and the ways that they finally coax each other off the wire through understanding one another :’) The order was partly decided by how well I felt each verse fit them (the second and third are such dead ringers for Saionji/Touga and Utena/Anthy to me, augh) but I did want that feeling of escalation and I’m so glad it came through!! stunningly beautiful video. i stumbled across it by accident on tumblr & it led me to an entire afternoon of watching rgu amvs and being almost moved to tears. your depiction of these relationships is brilliant and the way you use the visuals really elevates it - i love the section with anthy and utena’s grasped hands, of course, but the akio portion was also done very well. as a (entirely irrelevant) side note, i myself had thought of this song in relation to miki and kozue some time ago, maybe it goes to show how well this song and the idea of ‘professing - even if falsely - to leave and another being stuck or left behind’ is a recurring theme. anyway sorry for rambling, truly amazing video
