    Cost of Living In Moorea 2021
    On your way to Moorea, you'll likely have to spend one night in Papeete, Tahiti. Your flight will land in Tahiti and unfortunately there probably won't be any more ferries or planes servicing the island. You'll need to wait until morning.
    A night in Papeete can cost anywhere from $45-150 per night including accommodation (Airbnb or hotel - Airbnb will be cheaper) and a taxi. Ask your hotel or Airbnb host to set up a taxi for you.
    We recommend staying near the ferry because you'll be able to walk to the ferry in the morning.
    To get to Moorea, you can fly or take the ferry.
    The flight will cost between $100-400. The ferry, on the other hand, will cost $11-15 one way. It will take 45 minutes to get to Moorea from Papeete on the ferry. We highly recommend taking the ferry over to Moorea because it's a lot easier.
    You can find out more information about the ferry from Tahiti to Moorea in our blog post here: mikeandlauratravel.com/tahiti...
    Accommodation on Moorea will cost anywhere from $50 per night (for a hostel bed or private room in an Airbnb) to well over $1000 per night for an overwater bungalow. You can find out all of the details about the best places to stay, which neighborhoods are the most convenient, and which Airbnbs have the best value in our blog post here: mikeandlauratravel.com/where-...
    Taxis on Moorea: we HIGHLY recommend Tamatoa Taxi. We used his service several times and he was so friendly, honest, and knowledgeable about the island.
    You can reach him here:
    Phone + Whatsapp: +689 87 21 23 24
    Email: lihip.tam@gmail.com
    He speaks fluent English and will reply via message or phone call.
    Rental car on Moorea will cost approximately $1000 per month. Renting a scooter will cost around $700 per month. These will be more expensive if you rent them by the day or by the week.
    Ebikes are also a fantastic way to discover Moorea. We recommend eBike Moorea. It will cost about $50 per day for one bike.
    For all the information about prices for excursions, check out our post here: mikeandlauratravel.com/things...
    If you have any other questions about what things may cost in Moorea, don't hesitate to leave a comment for us below! Enjoy Moorea!

    I lived on Moorea for almost a year. Our house was in Afareaitu. I lived there in 1962 and one of the best things you can do to endear yourself to the people there is to speak Tahitian. I am fluent in Tahitian but that's not necessary. If you can just say "Ia Ora Na"=Tahitian greeting. Eaha to 'oe huru? How are you? "Your land is beautiful"! E mea nehenehe roa ta outou fenua! I have spent a total three years on about twenty different islands. That would be thirty if you count the time I spent on the Samoan islands. For them you would say Talofa, pofaa pei mai koe? The Polynesian people are among the friendliest people in the world.

    Hi Mike and Laura, thanks so much for these really informative videos on Mo’orea! Beautiful footage and really great insights. We really enjoyed the open mic night video too, amazing music Mike! One question I’ve been wondering about as I watch through these videos, how did you find the mosquitos on Mo’orea at this time of year? I noticed you’re outside in the evenings and had some accommodation with the open air kitchen and bathroom, so maybe not too bad? We’ll be travelling there with little kids. Thanks!

    • @MikeandLauraTravel
      @MikeandLauraTravel  Před 2 lety +1

      First off, thank you Daniel! Second... The mosquitos were definitely out, but the locals here all use mosquito coils. If you're not familiar mosquito coils are those little spiral incense style coils that smolder for hours to repel mosquitoes. They are pretty helpful and don't create a weird or bad smell. I would suggest bringing mosquito spray or finding it while you are there. I'm not so sure you can fully avoid getting bit, but it shouldn't be too bad. Again thank you for the positivity, feel free to ask for any other information! Safe travels!

      Hey Shawn! We're trying here ✊😎 thanks for the recognition. Okay... When it comes to getting on the water and going around the entire island, we're not entirely sure that is an option. There are however, different water experiences we would suggest for you that involve moving around the coast of the island.
      one being:
      www.viator.com/tours/Moorea/Jet-ski-excursion-3-hrs-Jet-ski-excursion-to-Moorea-single-or-two-seater/d5182-187900P4?pid=P00047554&mcid=42383&medium=link&campaign=Jetskimoorea

      Option one gives you a little more freedom to solo explore, and option two has a lunch option as well to get you the most time on the water, enjoying the view looking toward the island! Option three is our personal favorite because on a private tour, you're obviously a little further from the crowds.
      We hope you have an awesome trip! Thank you again for your support Shawn!

    Ok, I just read several horror stories from people on tripadvisor, & basically pleading with people to NOT drive scooters around in Moorea. How did you guys manage & did you see/ hear of any accidents from people riding scooters? We were planning on renting one the whole time we are there & so we will be transporting our groceries back & forth also (in cloth bags over my shoulder). I would really like your take on the whole situation, as now I am scared! Thanks!

    • @MikeandLauraTravel
      @MikeandLauraTravel  Před 2 lety +3

      Ok! We completely understand!
      So...
      Renting a scooter is a fun idea! If you have driven a scooter before then you should be in good hands. The speed limit is between 30 and 50 mph around the whole island and there are only a couple of "really busy" turn offs. The grocery stores specifically can be a little busy during normal business hours. I remember it was a little tough trying to get a weeks worth of groceries on to my scooter. Carrying bags can throw off your balance and make riding your scooter difficult. Depends on what you will be shopping for. As far as the rest of the island, it was very calm roads with no traffic. We didn't see or hear of any tragedies on bikes while we were there, but we have experience from driving on the crazy streets of Bali in Canggu and on the island of Nusa Penida. Both of those were insane experiences and driving a scooter on Mo'orea is nothing like that.
      In short I would say drive near the sides of the road so that drivers can pass you and just drive as slow as you need. Take every caution not to jump in front of other traffic including other scooters and absolutely be careful when buying groceries and carrying them along.
      We hope this helps you make up your mind. ** Maybe rent for a week at first to decide whether or not driving a scooter the whole time will be the best fit! 🤙 Thanks for asking Tina!

      That's a great question. If you feel comfortable riding a scooter 🛵 than I suggest you go with the more fun and adventurous way around, by renting one. Also, do you think that it would be wise to stop at the duty free store at the airport in Papeete? Thank you for all of the info!! It really does help!!

    • @MikeandLauraTravel
      @MikeandLauraTravel  Před 3 lety +4

      It really depends on what kind of restaurants you will be stopping at but, if you were to stop and snag some fresh fruit from the side of the road or at a market and eat that for breakfast it could save you some cash. Otherwise there are a few great cafe's that aren't too expensive... And as far as lunch and dinner goes (combined) I would plan on a minimum of $30-40 a person.
      So in total probably $50 a day on the safe side, and if you save a little more on a few days or something you could even snag some food at one of the resort restaurants. Those places are quite a bit more expensive.
      I would definitely suggest the duty free for any liquor and other treats. You'll find the goods there and it will definitely be marginally cheaper if you're looking for the best deals.
      Glad to lend a hand! We hope you have a blast Nicole!

      I like this question phoenixnmhesq! If idolize the epitome of beach vacation and that is a major goal for your experience, then the over water bungalows will give you all of the feels. Think to yourself "if I go there and get to the beach and see these things off shore, will I be content or always wish I was in there". The experience for us was really something special. The hole in the floor to see the rays and fish swimming below... I could go on and on. But, if you have a good amount of allotted time to spend and could give Moorea more than a few days, renting a place for yourself is a lot of fun as well.
      The simple answer is yes, but don't feel like that is the only way to enjoy yourself on such a beautiful island! Thanks for asking!

      We always had good service through Google Fi. It was $0.20 a minute though. We always just used WiFi and went through FaceTime or something like that. The WiFi there isn't very good. Pretty much everywhere had poor WiFi so, you could go that route but it may be blurry video and slow connection, but it works! Thanks for asking Yu!

      Terrible everywhere... Unfortunately the best wi-fi is in the over-water bungalows and that's not saying much. There are some cafes where the wi-fi is better than other places but depending on the weather, that signal could go out the window. Hope that helps 🙏
