The frost free fridge freezers with the slim insulation are very sensitive to how tight a space you put them in. They dissipate the heat through the sides of the unit, so need a decent air gap around them. Without this and all sorts of problems start occurring, as I found out recently.

.........yeh one mistake I did make having a drink dispenser or water tap on front, never use it an it takes up half the door space on the inside so you can't put milk cartons or Orange Juice in the door, only a couple of pockets. Also the water goes off/ mouldy even if unused

I swapped my 10 year Hotpoint 50/50 frost free fridge freezer for a Bosch 50/50 frost free series 2 fridge freezer a couple of years ago, slightly larger than the Hotpoint but holds far more than that did [same width , slightly deeper and taller]
very quiet in operation and well made.

I have worked as a soundguy most of my life, therefore I like decent noise levels at home. Just have got an experience with NoFrost 40dB fridge, that it is very noisy. Instead of tractor-like noises, familiar from old fridges, these have added ventilation-engines that create whinning noises, which sound like a jet-plane taking off every time it starts. It is very annoying to have that kind of noise floor at home. It doesn´t exceed 40dB of course but the character of the noise is very different.
We try now to find silent-like fridge, but I assume that 32dB is not the key-point of silence, but to find a fridge that doesn´t have all these new whistles.
Liebherr announces very good noise floor at 32dB as they have put extra effort in combining the technical details of the equipment. Let´s see :)

    great video!
are there downsides of getting a more efficient fridge (apart from the cost)? There is an Class A samsung for sale (only 108 kWh yearly!), but I wonder how is this efficiency achieved. Is it just plain more efficient heat pump and insulation, or it also becomes weaker (slower to cool initially\after opening the door) and assumes efficiency gains from stuff like open door alarms?

  • @sharkyxxx4057

hi.. the bottom drawer depth is not to do with frost free in any way... it is shallower due to compressor placement at rear of unit... the slight difference in drawer size would be the rest of the drawers being shallower by appox 15 to 25 mm to allow for evaporator and fan to the inner of backwall freezer,,, the conventional drawers slightly deeper as the evaporator is usually the shelves themselves.. hope this helps...

I guess what I would like to know is whether it's possible to replace freezer dawers if they are broken. Can you easily buy a replacement and is that for a reasonable price? And also I would like to know if other customers consider the brand to be reliable. But you have a good list. I really like all your video's.

    • @lords-electrical

We downsized, our small flat has a lounge / kitchen so the noise factor has suddenly become hugely important to us,we were given a fridge freezer that is silent and it's wonderful,we have been searching for a taller one as we need more freezer space unfortunately the one we have they dont do a taller model, so off we go on the search for a new one, we didn't realise the symbol on the energy card you held up has the noise of the freezer on the bottom, why did you gloss over that? It's become the most important factor to us now, when I mentioned it to one salesman in our local shop he said they didn't make our make/model anymore because the noise put people off? I told him it's silent I think he was just looking for a quick sale ,so do you're homework folks before you go looking for a new one half the time the salesmen haven't a clue what they are selling, sorry but true .😗

pamela as you have a miele freezer top fridge freezer is the freezer frost free? if so i know you dont have to defrost but if its many years old you may find its the fan making the noise not the compressor and a simple defrost may quieten it.. if not it may require a new fan... miele compressors were pretty good and rarely noisy..worth checking before replacing...
