The 2017 remake of "Beauty and the Beast", was not about improving the story, it was about setting up key explorations for the origin stories of Belle, Beast and Gaston that has set off the main story from the start of the Beast's Curse; plus it was a good key notable that the bow and arrow thing in the animated feature was a movie mistake, because this Live action film makes it clear that the Disney versions of the story was supposed to take place in a time period where the use for such simple ranged weapons would be outdated to firearms.

At first, I was surprised the Maleficent movie wasn't up here, but thinking of this, I would agree that it also appears more "origin story" than remake.
I'd love to see more villain origin stories, tbh. Though if it's one of these more realistic movies, that could kill the style of characters like Scar, Dr. Facilier, and Jafar - all of whom have distinct animations and designs.

@@familyoftacticaldroids309 Maleficent eing called a remake annoys me. Because it's not a remake beyond taking a few scenes from the cartoon. There's barely any actual remade parts. It's mostly original and reads as a fanfiction, nor does it take place in the same universe. Philip is Swedish according to his kingdom being Ulstead, Stefan is Scottish and evil, Maleficent stays good, the fairies are renamed, it's pink vs green instead of blue....

In my personal opinion, Cinderella is the best remake that Disney has made thus far. It managed to create it's own story and style, a film that stood on its own without relying heavily on nostalgia, and gave new depth to familiar characters especially the prince. If Jane Austen was a filmmaker, Cinderella remake is exactly how i'd imagine if she wrote and directed it. Everyone was absolutely brilliant in their roles and it's probably the only Disney remake that i can rewatch over and over again. Kenneth Branagh as the director with his Shakespeare brain in it did such a great job in telling the story. It's not just a good live action remake, it's a good movie as a whole!

Cruella remains my favorite. Emma Stone sells it, gives another perspective to an iconic Disney film, and the monochromatic castle intro with the blood red Disney logo, the dark clouds with lightning, and the theme song and faint laughter in the background - emphasizing that this ain’t a happy go-lucky Disney fairytale movie.

The Lion King remake was doomed to fail the moment they announced it. Like, you can't replicate the whole thing with photorealistic animals when none of characters have any facial expression because they looked real. It's the definition of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Felt like watching a National Geographic documentary movie with voice acting rather than an actual Lion King movie. Even Elton John said that the movie messed up it's music and it was true. Man, I really hated the movie! Still my least favourite Disney remake ever

Lily James and Richard Madden made such a wonderful Cinderella and Prince Charming (Kit), and I enjoyed the increased focus on Cinderella herself and less on the talking animals, as well as Prince Charming (Kit) having more depth and a personality, as well! Yes, I was waiting for that one too. I think they purposely left it out because it doesn´t fit either group. It is not better, than the original and has some mistakes (like the main hero is overshadowed a lot of times) but it has just as many good things (the sultan, Jafar and Jasmin characters are more developed than in the original). So it is in the neutral zone and they couldn´t classify it to these two gropus - or I think so.

I think if they’re going to do a live action adaptation of a previously animated movie, they should at least tell a story that hasn’t already been told. Movies like Maleficent & the sequel, Christopher Robin, Cruella, Dumbo, and Alice In Wonderland all are stories that have been presented in a way that doesn’t seem like a copy of the previous versions. Like, I know The Lion Guard gave a somewhat story behind Scar's name, but eh...I feel like it's probably a lot darker than that and it just came up with "snake on face" to be more kid friendly. Or they just slapped it in to give some form of origin. The show was actually good, though, and not just tailored to little kids like one may think; It had potty humor, but it also had a few dark moments, and even one episode gives a warning prior that it contains aspects of "accomplishing the circle of life" (aka: death) and I liked the wording for that and how they handled it.

As long as you guys didn't mention The Little Mermaid remake, I'm okay. Besides, the "positive reviews" were fake. While not as bad as the trainwrecks (Pinocchio, Mulan, Lion King, Dumbo, ect), it's still not good. Although the romance is more genuine and realistic and Prince Eric is more developed, it still suffers from bad CGI effects, bloated pacing that drags, unnecessary new songs, and changes to the story that either hurt the narrative, or came off as pointless and unnecessary.

Honestly, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I ADORED the Aladdin remake! I think will smiths charm brought it to life as the genie and I loved how Jasmine got her gorgeous im powering solo. @SupergirlUK Před 2 měsíci +1

I have mixed feelings about it, I loved that Jasmine got her own I want song and they fleshed out some bits. Jafar is too hot tho 😂
But the big elephant in the room. Robin Williams. He is synonymous with the Genie, while Will Smith was great as the Genie, bringing his spin on the character; (Which is the only way to do it, otherwise it would always be a mediocre impression of Robin William's Genie.) I don't understand the choice in making him preform 'Never had a friend like me' the exact same as Robin Williams (it's never going to be as good) especially as Will Smith did his own version, used in the credits. This version should have been in the movie 🤷‍♀️ It's just a weird choice, when its our first introduction to the character, one they are pushing as different to the original, they have let Will Smith do his shtick the whole movie, but this song they do EXACTLY like Robins. Was just odd choice. I really liked Will's (credits) version and would have been a great introduction to HIS Genie 🤷‍♀️

Personally, I feel like Mulan should've been up in the "killed" list...They totally removed everything about the animated movie that made it great; The fun songs, MUSHU!!!...And Mulan was just a "perfect hero" stereotype that didn't really have to work to get where she was - she was already in the know of everything. Even the villain was less memorable, and I can't even recall if it was Shan Yu or if they changed that up too! I was so bored I didn't even really bother with much of it. :/

The only ones I liked were The Jungle Book and Lady and the Tramp, never got interested in the others. The Jungle Book was actually epic, I kinda prefer the original for the nostalgia and its versions of 'I Wanna Be Like You' and Baloo (I'm a fan of Phil Harris) but I still love the remake. Lady and the Tramp was well done too and I loved how Jim Dear finally stood up to Aunt Sarah, plus I also love how the remake promotes adopting from animal shelters.
Rescue Rangers I don't really see as a remake, it's more of a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Heck Roger even makes a cameo early on, which I found awesome. I've even been coming up with theories, like the Chip and Dale in the movie are actually Chip Jr and Dale Jr. Their dads were the ones who did the theatrical cartoons, but they had a falling out sometime after their last cartoon in the late 1950s and their sons never learned that their dads had been friends/coworkers as well.
Another theory I have is that getting fired from Disney wasn't what made Peter snap, instead when he was a kid his parents kept wanting him to grow up early and when they found out that he was secretly enjoying kid things like playing with toys they severely punished him. So he ran away and lived on the streets until he got a job playing Peter Pan, and managed to continue this career via theme park visits and such. He eventually got married (I'm thinking to Wendy) and had Peter Jr, who played Peter Pan in Return to Neverland. That was what lead to Peter Sr snapping, Jr wanted his dad to have a second chance at the role but Disney turned down the idea due to Peter Sr looking too grown up. That statement caused Peter Sr to remember his parents saying that he'd never amount to anything unless he grew up, so the two statements clashed in his mind and drove him so mad that he nearly committed suicide only to realize that doing so would hurt his wife and son. So realizing that he would never escape the pain his parents caused was what really made him break down and become desperate to gain a sense of power.
And how come none of that was brought up in the movie, and Peter blamed Disney for everything instead? Well, remember how it took Chip many years before he finally admitted to Dale that he had no friends before he met him? Obviously, both details were cause by the fact that the truth was too painful to talk about.

Almost made it: Aladdin. While the movie went a long way to fix a lot of things culturally and visually wrong with the original, as well as flesh out a few characters, it fell flat on delivery with some acting choices. Will Smith is a great Genie because he put his own take on it rather than trying to be Robin Williams, however the song “Friend Like Me” was not reworked to suit his voice. Mena Massoud certainly looked the part of Aladdin, but lacked expressionor acting experience. Marwan Kenzari was also great at fleshing out Jafar, but the movie seemed to want to nerf him at every turn, and he seems lacking without Gilbert Gottfried playing the now bland Iago.
Failed: Lady and the Tramp. This seemed like a huge effort just to erase the racism of the Siamese cats as well as some of the emotional hardships Lady was meant to endure, and Tramp is not charming in the slightest. It felt like it was trying to hard to deliver without knowing what it was it wanted to deliver. But the outro song “That’s Enough” gets points, as it is really suited to this film.
Epic fail: Maleficent. The only reason I didn’t want to walk out on this travesty is because ai paid gold class tickets for it, and those are pricey. This movie took a character who’s name literally means something or someone evil and malicious and made her into a whimp. Every character is butchered beyond belief and you know every actor on the roster can do better. If it had been told from the perspective of evil Maleficent from the start, it would have been far more interesting. Cruella is an excellent example of what this movie should have done, and I refuse outrightly to watch the sequel. Angelina looked and sounded the part, but the script and story and just the worst. I grew up loving Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty is my favourite Disney movie, but this remake can go burn in a hole.

I think my plus side to the remake of Lady and the Tramp was they rid of that sad scene at the pound; The dogs all crying (literally!!) in the animated made me cry and I refused to watch that movie ever again when I was older. But otherwise, yeah, it wasn't my fave.
I think I only liked Aladdin, myself. I liked Will Smith's Genie, but I did feel ripped off that they didn't even add Jafar's turning into a snake at the end. They just went to Final Boss Mode. The snake part was awesome, imo, and I just hate they rid of it. But I'd still watch both versions again.

I thought most of the remakes were pretty good, but when I first heard about the release for the new "Pete's Dragon", I was hoping and half-expecting that we can get a clear back story to the Pete character that I knew from the composited classic and how the Gogans managed to save enough money for "Adoption"; I mean, the new movie kinda seems like it kinda runs a little too slow for me, and the story wasn't as easy to follow, sure you get a better chance at every emotional perspective view for each character, but still I wish the other characters were at least labeled with the same names as the originals, besides Pete and Elliot; I do not understand why Elliot was the only supporting character allowed to keep his name?

I didn't see every single one of them but the least I still wanna check out Cruella and Pete's Dragon that folks said were great.

@@AshParth560 those were alright in my opinion. I will say I was pretty excited for pinocchio even though that one didn’t get a lot of praise. I still wish that robert zemeckis would’ve had pinocchio turn into the actor who portrayed him as the real boy of pinocchio and have his nose become a actual tree branch

The worst thing about the lion king was the lack of chemistry between the leads. I don’t know how you can get Don Glover and Beyoncé front and centre and have it sound like they’re reading the script for the first time!

Don't forget to include the Mulan remake as one of those remakes that "Kills the Legacy."

Well although its hated so much I was impressed by the giant battle fiel scenes which can hold up to Lord of the Rings.

I'd say Mulan killed even more than the Lion King remake...I couldn't even bother watching most of it after it started; The lack of Mushu already ended it for me, and then there weren't any songs from the movie - I think I could only hear faint music playing "I'll Make a Man Out of You" during one scene, but that was it.
I liked the movie for the animation, the silliness, and the songs; Live action lacked all of it, imo.

So glad that the one that was considering the worst for killing the legacy was The Lion King. Sure, I couldn't finish the live action Pinocchio, but as an adult, I don't think I could finish the cartoon one anymore either. The animated Lion King I can always finish (if I'm not too busy crying, that is) but the moment I heard how it absolutely DESTROYED the BEST VILLIAN SONG OF ALL TIME I was done. I was out. It went off and I will never put it on again in my house.
