Recovering Kraken here. Currently about $60k in with about a year and a half play time. I loved this video and it really clicked with me. So many valid points were mentioned here I don’t even know where to start. I can’t tell you how many champs that Ive chased that were must haves, or Hydra specialists, or god tier, etc. and most of them don’t end up getting any playtime. The Archer comment resonated a lot with me - I was somewhere in the region of $5000-$6000+ spent just during the monster hunter event to pull all the champs. Was so happy to pull a second archer and still to this day, I haven’t been able to incorporate her into any of my teams. And this was a champ that I HAD to have. The list just goes on from there. At my height of big spending, I was spending around $2000-$5000+ a month on this game. I’ve reigned myself in a bit since then, and after coming to terms with a lot of things mentioned in this video. Now I basically whale once or twice a month instead of buying whatever I want. And I will say this..when you make the choice to become a whale, eventually the game will reach a point where you aren’t enjoying the game if you aren’t spending. Everything starts to feel lackluster and the FOMO really sets in. The game is designed for these exact reasons! While I still haven’t completely broken my spending habits, I can say that I am enjoying the game much more without feeling like I have to do every event and chase every fusion, put up 500k points every cvc, etc. Whaling out is truly a blessing and a curse in itself..I can tell you all about like 90% of the legendaries, what’s in their skill kit, where they are effective, how to build them..but I can’t tell you much about most of the epics and rares in the game. I skipped to legendaries essentially and never got to experience working with what I had. Obviously I’m aware of the top tier epics and use a few, but there’s tons of useful epics out there that I will never use or even know about. Sorry for the chapter book, but I just wanted to say I love the video and thank you for releasing it to the community. More people need to be aware of this and I’m happy to hear some CC finally bringing light to the matter

I recently realized I was so invested in getting champions that I didn't have time to build them, case in point the recent event for Shemnath. I looked at my resources and knew I had no chance when I suddenly realized, I had pulled Shemnath some months before and it was just sitting in my vault! It was like a lightning bolt hit and now, although I still participate in some events, I only do the ones that will help me with the resources I need to build up the champions I have. Honestly, I have some great champs that are just wasting away in the vaults. Another great and necessary video Ash!

I've told myself that I will only ever spend to get cosmetics (skins) in game for champs I have. I recently spent for the first time on the Coldheart Necrobia skin because after 1 year playing Raid f2p, I felt like it was fair to spend a little since I've gotten so much entertainment for $0 and the cosmetic upgrade doesn't ruin the best parts of the game (resource management, creative strategy to surpass challenges, etc). I totally understand why some people spend in game (lack of time, speed up building new champs, etc) but this game to me is so much more fun when you don't throw money at shards to get all the meta champs and only use the meta strats to beat all the in game challenges.

I totally agree, when I started I was spending quite a bit, but for the last 2 years I only purchase monthly gems pack for 9,99 and occasional forge pass, that's it and I manage to get to plat arena from time to time, can do about 600 mil on hydra, clear most of sintranos rotation, clear hard doom tower and every new good champ just makes my day :)

This comment from ChrisCross ended up making me reflect and think about how tedious Siege Mode really is and that the game's creative team could have made good use of the Champions Lore, which is very well made, by the way, because I ended up getting the I love reading almost all new Champions lore and it's something that seems silly but it's an RPG element that entertains me.
I think it is something that is underutilized and would be having a story mode in which you unlock whenever you receive a new champion or something that is ultimately fun to play.
Yes there is a story in the campaign progression at the beginning of the game but you quickly finish it.
I don't care about new rewads, just something different to purely entertain.
Creating cinematics for each new champion received would be something different, for example.
The animated series was really cool for me, break away from the sameness.

I honestly think this is the best video you have ever made, and will be the most eye opening video to so many players. Plarium will almost certainly hate it, because you are opening peoples eyes to the FOMO they create, and indeed the power creep they are happy to allow in order to facilitate it. This is why they 'nerf' champs that do more than they thought, but never 'nerf' the new OP fusion that breaks the game. They haven't broken anything, they work exactly as intended, so you will spend to fuse the next one that's even better than the previous one, while hoping you don't use your brain and realize, you've already beaten all the games content, all you are doing is making the number you beat it by, go up slightly! Thank you, and keep up the good work Ash 😉

Literally getting khorugar building him out and placing him in the vault was the beginning of the end in this last account. Then after this last fusion I was lucky enough to pick up 3 new leggos in the process but I have no desire to build any of them because I’m pretty happy with my existing teams. To add to what CrissCrossApplesause3 said: spending money in this game almost feels like using the Contra code to beat Contra vs just playing Contra for fun, getting good over time and feeling that big rush when you finally beat it.
Spending big bucks in Raid doesn’t get you much and once you have it… what next? Chase another champ that I might end up not using? A huge part of the fun of this game is building teams using the champs you have and making them work. Always chasing the next big goody just to bypass that fun is kind of silly.
Why be in a rush? Plarium is forced to keep adding bigger and better champs in the game so don’t be in a hurry to catch up to their ever-moving finish line. After years of playing this game and a decent chunk of money spent, that’s how I feel about it anyway.

I will say that the aspect of FTP I enjoy is being forced to make due with what you have (faction wars comes to mind, where I really had to out of the box think for some levels to fully clear it). It can be really satisfying albeit sometimes frustrating when you feel completely roadblocked. Little things like Marksman being my first Epic and then I see Ash listing him as one of the worst in the game, but he was really big for my Arena and Clan Boss progression with proper gearing and support. It makes pulling an account changing champ or lucky 6 star soul feel even more momentous because you start to wonder what you can accomplish with better tools at your disposal.

Gem pack is all you need to complete events: every fusion and intermediate titan event/path event/you name it (since you have abundance of gems to convert into energy). And when you run UNM clan boos - you have enough shards as well to get to necessary points in events. Then you also have doom tower, cvc etc etc. I don't feel like any other of these expensive packs will get me much further than where I can get with only gem pack

I just completed my own personal challenge yesterday, of doing all 360 floors of the 3 rotations of Hard Doom Tower with Epics only. It didn't earn me any more rewards than just doing them with fast damage teams, it was just me finding a way to have fun actually playing the game, and it's some of the best fun I've had in the game. I care less and less nowadays about fusions, tournaments, events, and all the other pointless stuff. I have enough champions to do everything but Hard 10 FK (I probably could do that if I could be bothered). I've never cared about competing in Arena so what other people can do doesn't matter. Hydra I do as a personal challenge to beat my own personal bests, what that gives me for Hydra Clash is just a side effect that doesn't matter.
So I chase new champions less and less nowadays, because I actually have the most fun with my Epics. Yes, I want my +4 Galas and Skullcrowns, but I'll probably never get them, it is what it is, though.

ASH! There is a little problem in the game I haven't seen anyone address, and I think it should be mentioned.
When the soul merchant first dropped, they made room for 6 rolls of epics, 4 leggos, and 4 rares, because there were way more epics than leggos and rares. However, now there are JUST AS MANY Legendaries as there are epics, and no mention from plarium on expanding the Legendary slots to 6! Not to mention of course that we have also received more epics since that time as well, even further increases the disparity on how hard it is to get the specific Legendary soul we want. I really hope you'll agree with me that they should expand the slots to 6 and campaign just as hard as you did for epic empowerment!

This game is probably the only game of the genre I have tried where you have to think abotu what you do. It isn't just a case of put your best gear on your best champs and hit the auto button like every othe rone out there. There is so much more min-maxing to do in this game and like the WoW of old, that theorycrafting is what drives a lotof us, what keeps us coming back. The one thing that has made that somewhat easier is the regular free gear removal now, but even then it is still restrictive I feel. There's little difference to Plarium to allow everyone regular Mastery changes for free as well given the sheer volume of content in the game to try and master now. I love this game just for that reason. Im FTP and I enjoy it. If you want to spend money, (LOOKING AT YOU ASH!!!) then go ahead. The balance of the game and champions is what makes it the best gacha game out there. I agree that certain champs can make your account progress quite far, but it's not unfair. Even with the awesome duos, which I don't have besides Venus and Cupidus, there are always ways to counteract them. And I think, the more important aspect of the game is gear and builds. Those two things will take you further than anything else. A Trunda is useful in hydra, only if she is set up right with the right type of champions around her. That's what people tend to forget. I love your videos Ash, and it's amazing how you can take certain champs and make them work, but that's the thing. You have a variety of Champions that you can use to make certain champs work. Any champ is relevant, to include common and uncommons, if you have the right build around them with the right gear and builds. I appreciate all your work and what you do, but I agree with you that you don't need to spend money to play this game AND be viable!

I have 2 upper accounts. One at 100 and the other very close behind. But I enjoy doing my clan mates referrals so much more. Beginner accts are, by far, so much more fun. I just finished a referral where I only used common and uncommon champs. It was hitting lvl 20 dungeons, finished doom tower normal, was in g5 arena. Granted clan boss was difficult but could 1 key hard. This was probably the most fun I had in about a year of playing.
The power creep and disadvantages on upper accounts is insane. The only tournament I have a chance at is classic arena for a few pieces of relentless gear. Forget live arena. Its said you will always be at. 50%, plarium will put in bots to make it so. I may not be a math genius but 2 wins out of 10 ain't 50%. Lower accounts are a blast.. The uppers are daunting at best.

You so correct ash. My last fusion i completed was Gnut. Wixwel, anythjng he can di except the yanika duo i can do already. Armanz as OP as he is. I take pride in a f2p combo against him. Dont need him. Yes im end game. I have a 420 speed siphi. But the fusions lately although insanely good have not been necessary for me. Play the game to what you need. Not every fusion is needed for every account. Ghis thought process has made the game much more enjoyable

i have to be honest. i have fallen into the money trap a lot and almost every puchase has made me somewhat sad. i feel like if you want to spend money on a game then it is to get something out of it and not the chance to get something out of it. i learned really quick that buying stuff is not rewarding at all in the sense that you didnt really earn anything. like he said in the post ''why spend if it dosent help anyways''. i had my account for 4 years i wanna say (its probably 5 years, but im getting too old to remember) and i made a completely free to play account and i kinda enjoy that more. the exitement of pulling a couple of ancient shards to see what will come out is way more fun than just buying a ton to maybe get the 1 champ you want. really appreciate you making this video.
stay frosty my guy and much love :)

Im mostly free to play... I spend on the monthly gems thats it. I got 2 sun wukongs... I pulled one from an extra legendary event...fushan was the one I summoned...for me i noticed that building your roster is best done by saving for guaranteed summons and extra legendary every thing else you can skip and timing your pulls for those events.
Its basically how I do scratch offs. I look at the lotto site see which ones have the most prizes...ask the number on the roll for the tickets and ask if anyone has recently won...if so I skip if not ill throw 20 into it but no more then that.
I do pretty good. By applying this to raid I managed 24 legendaries last year. Added to my roster including login and free champs.
I found doing CB daily and being in a clan that downs your CBs and spending all 4 CB keys, and building a team capable of doing 1 keys really helps the shard counter roll up.
These are my best tips and if your just starting out on clan boss. I started with 2 outlaw monks (uncommons), kael (starter), warpriest(healer), and diabloist as my clan boss team. This was my team up until brutal clan boss when I started hitting nightmare.
The most important spot for farming when your starting out will be dragon 12-13 forget which. Youll get your first shot at higher level gear. Once you get there thats where you farm. You ideally will keep epic gear that has no flat hp, no flat atk or flat def stats but instead has nothing but %atk, %def or %hp stats instead. The only flat stats you wanna see in your gear is speed, accuracy and resist. I mostly sold the rare gear unless I needed to roll it for quests but then I never took it past lvl 4.
I predominantly kept 4 star and above till I could farm lvl 20. If you have flat attack, flat defence or flat hp on boots, gloves or chest dont waste cores trying to reroll it just sell it.
These are the best tips I got. Dont look at it as a game. Just look at it as a way to waste time when you got nothing else to do. Its the best way I have found to beat plariums addiction mechanisms.

As well, not chase content creators or those getting donations to spend spend spend. The game is fun and your giving everything you need over time. No reason to actually pay or feel accepted by the top spenders. Enjoy rhe ride but help a stranger before you spend.

That is what I am saying all the time. Raid is all about carefully planning when used certain resources.
All I do is to play all the fusion to get hands on champs that can do things. Sometimes I get something along the way. But most important things are books. So one has to carefully choose champ to Max out. And it depends on current need.
And the point - its tempting to spend, but the game is most fun (aka satisfying ) when you play completely F2P.

  • @madman4649

I have and still do spend on the game, but I found gems, energy or books are all I have purchased for a long time now. It allows me to keep playing. I remember somewhere in the 1st year spending like $200 on void shards and getting like 30 or 40 voids. Pulled them and pretty much got nothing not even an unkillable CB champ like ME or Demy, so basically I gambled $200 and got nothing, maybe 5 minutes of shard pulling excitement. The only way I buy shards ever since then is if there is a really good mixed offer like the monthly pack. I'll take a small shot or two at a champ when good ones come up (like Krisk) and only go for fusions if I can see improvement for my account. Like Mithrala, she is a very good champ. I use her a little for DT and on one 3v3 team, so I couldn't see going for her 5* soul at the cost of more resources than a fusion champ. Basically an end game account but still have some areas to finish and some comps to improve. No point spending so much to rush to a finish line that doesn't exist and how many times can you beat or get beaten up by the same 50 players in any version of arena before it gets boring?

There’s so many new OP champs gate kept by spending or crazy luck. I’ve had neither luck or funds for a while now.
It’s gotten tougher to watch CC content Cuz of the huge amount of power creep lately. Especially shard pulls and new OP champ showcases. Not watching showcases unless I actually have the champ has helped curb that feeling of wanting the next new thing.
Idk, the sentiment in the community is pretty down and has been for a bit now. Lately we’ve had multiple FEELS BAD fiascos: Siege fallout, 6star Ninja B$, Mithralla’s DungeonDiver, too few Primals, HydraClash balance, Amius, Archer… the list just keeps going.

I stopped spending almost 2 years ago and I can do pretty much any fusion I'm interested in. I even have a Hydra Archer Queen on my account, I received Yumeko and Harima as F2P. Like that poster though my account has a Trunda repellent applied to it. Thing that truly makes it obvious that I don't spend anymore is the fact I only have 2 Mythical champs(and 1 is Lady Mikage) and the masteries on my champs aren't all complete

    Worth thinking about, for sure.
I see the game as an app for pocket-accessible scratch tickets. I get the same kick from winning, and disappointment/frustration when losing, scratching a pile of those :D
I don't consider myself having income THAT disposable, that I can spend any amounts worth mentioning on a game, but the steady stream of excitement, satisfaction and stimulating entertainment I get daily from this game, for maybe $20-50/month, far surpasses the excitement of whatever else I could do with that amount of money. I almost never buy shards, however. I rarely feel I have exposable income enough to handle the lightning blues like a grown man when I pop shards I've bought xD
Also, as a f2p, the game is telling you a story, which you can influence and help direct. Then suddenly, the rng dungeon master picks an account-changing champ to your next shard, which brings the story forward.
Or, like me, the first lego you saw for the first couple of months, was Teela Goremane.
Okay, I loved her back then, and I love her now, but it was like she wasn't a team player and very self-reliant, so it was an adjustment to make her fit in my early game progression squad :D

It is more fun, in terms of endorphines, to run 4, 5, 6, or more free to play accounts (I run up to 12) for free, and it is cheaper to collect all the champs that way, too. Most of the time an account can be on auto pilot while I work on another account. Getting 12 Ninjas is better than just getting one. I have spent about £500 since 2019, mainly on the monthly bonus feature for a few years just to get more energy miles to hit level 100.

In my opinion, clan members also make me feel like I need the new champs. Either because I see that they has it and I don't, or because they do more damage in CB or Hydra using them. So clans facilitate spending too because most clans have spenders or at least luckier ones than me. :D
I am trying not to spend on shards, because I know it's a neverending gambling crap. Archer was the only champ I tried to get that way and I spent on shards (not too much but it's a lot compared to the usual nothing). "Fortunately" I didn't get her which helped me realize that I shouldn't do that, it's like literally burning my money...

ive been f2p for 3.5 years and im still enjoying it. ive been end game for a while now and i average about 1.5b hydra clash points. the game is still enjoyable, but i can absolutely understand why spenders dont feel the same. the point at the end about it being a trap for spenders, i can easily see how that would be the case. you spend and spend and spend and still end up with the same type of account as my little old f2p account. im 10m power in a top 100 clan and theres big spenders with me sitting at the same power beating themselves up all the time for spending a bunch of money and not getting the outcome they're looking for.

I dont have a F2P account. Most of my spending has historically been VERY early game. Like in the very beginning of the game at the first tournament. I have one account I got lucky and pulled a good Lengendary that made early game MUCH easier. I have come to realize there really is no need at all to spend any money. If you play an account for 6 weeks and you just arent catching any breaks. Stuff like you've spent like 60 Blue shards and virtually every thing you've pulled and you only have one good champ a rare and you catch gimps across the board, you can always start a new account find a great promo code that lets you pull an Apoc or Deacon with Rector and least you give yourself a chance.

No I’m not killing Hydra but I’m not holding my clan back either. I’m in a laid back clan. We win CvC sometimes, but it is okay if we don’t. I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating.
I'd say it's the content creators' job to discuss and rate both new Champions and existing Champions who may have found a new role as the game changes. But one of the things I've noticed, as they showcase the damage these Champions can rack up, is that the results are achieved more through gear and boosts (i.e., blessings), rather than anything intrinsic to the Champion itself. Need I remind Ash that Saph managed to make even Harrier effective?
I consider myself a low-to-no spender. But a while back, for a period of perhaps two or three months, I decided to see if I could spend strategically and see what effect that had on my account, which I perceived to be progressing only very slowly.
Well... it didn't make that much difference. What seemed to happen was that I simply ended up with MORE Champions that I had trouble developing fully. (This is one of the reasons why I don't want a Mythic Champion and I never pull those kind of shards--because I couldn't gear or develop such Champions well enough to make proper use of them.)
I play a little every day, but I play with my own short-term goals in mind. The first is to build my resources back up to where I can do things in the game without having to micromanage my energy, or spend every spare moment chasing a high finish in an event. I'm getting together the food I need to get more of my Champions to level 60. It's taking time. But as Star Trek's Scotty advises a junior officer, who protests that a task he's been set will take a long time: "Let it take time, lad."
Patience is your best approach to these gachapon games--especially the ones from Plarium. Don't let "gacha" turn into "GOTCHA!"

but real life time put in the game can really as F2P get you to the end game, but its still a grind, some love it, others dont.

If they line up with what I'm doing, sure, I'll try to do them then - but progressing my characters forward is more important to me at the moment than whatever shiny keys they dangle in my face that will ultimately not help me for a long time, if at all. I think the game actually teaches you self awareness. Since I know I'm fairly prone to gambling, I set a hard budget with how much I spend. Let's say 20 usd. After I spend that much, I can't spend any more. Some people might need to completely block themselves off as well i.e. your bank does not allow transfers of more than 20 bucks or whatever.
If even that doesn't help then maybe you need to remove yourself from that situation. I.e. go cold turkey.
Of course, I'm also the dude who pulled 25 sacred shards to get a double legendary and got not one, but 25 cases of utter disappointment.
To be fair, I didn't spend on them but imagine if I had. Not only would I be 25 sacreds down but also maybe even close to 500 usd down too.

Burritoslayer did a long video about the same post. The more you spend and the further into the game you get the less you get. $20 when you start the game can fast track things tremendously. $20 at end game will most likely result in nothing. Eventually one day the servers will shutdown and you’ll have nothing. If you want to spend that’s great, but you could also spend that money making memories with friends/family. The only fusions I’ve done so far are Armanz and wixwell both huge progression for any account. I didn’t have an unkillable and was slacking in arena both those fusions gave me the push I needed. My point being only do what actually helps your account. I’m not falling for fomo or some random fusion that sounds nice but really won’t advance my account at all. I guarantee a lot of you have champs that need masteries lol

Seeing this makes me feel extremely lucky. During the Teox event, not only did I pull him but also krokmar. And, I only had 5 shards.

coming back after years and all the crazy champs and souls etc made it feel like I was barely playing for 30 or 40 levels since I couldnt even get into an actiive clan, none of the tournaments or events were doable, so I spent a little oppurtunistically(Ie rathalos accesory pass, altogether under 200 bucks which seems high to me lol, etc) and now that I have got lucky a few times, I have a marichka, a mezomel, maybe 10-12 leggos max outside the free ones and its really hard to make an excuse to spend anymore especially after a back to back demytha pull. sure other champs are cool and I love meta breaking but at level 60 it comes down to gear stats when I whale hunt and coast mode is engaged now. theres so much to discover , like a couple months ago when saph tore into supersonic and gee its actually good lol. and its awesome I can choose to do that now.
I guess my point is do i get carne asada fries or a sacred shard? fat me up bebe les goooooo lol

To your point, I've randomly pulled 2 Duchesses during last few months that I don't actually use (one is at least built, other is faction guardian) because by that time I already had established teams for everything that are just as good without her so why go through the trouble of switching it up again..

FOMO is what describes this game the best. Either you use your brain and be careful about what or if you buy something or you don't.

Spot on. Such a good video. I spend about £50 a month on the game but not on my old main account as it’s gotten stale. I recently started a new account and got Siphi and Gnut. I enjoy the new acc journey.

The only problem is that paylarium hides stuff behind the various arena modes. Which literally requires money or extreme luck to get the champions needed to compete for the rewards.

Low spend here. Raid card and monthly gem pack w/ a 2.99$ mini mix here and there. 3 yrs+ acct (joined during 1st ninja event) and I love the game.

Awesome points man. For me hitting achievements and milestones are just so much more rewarding as f2p. If a game is good and fun then I want it to last. What's even the point anymore if you have every champ and can beat every piece of content?? That can't feel good at right? Having something to always work/build towards is where the fun is.

Great video with plenty of good points. The addict in me probably pulls shards more often than I need to in terms of clever resource management, but I'm FTP and have never chased a champion enough to really get me to part with my cash. Dare I mention that this cut-down on in game spending seems curiously aligned with the end of the sponsorship of the other channel Ash?😂😂😂

Please can you and the gang join heads to make a video about a fusion requirement list like how much of this will you need how many gears to upgrade, you could use this fusion coming up to analyze how much u would need for a fusion

The game is enjoyable regardless if you spend money on it or not. There are a lot of great free champs and once you can start getting ultimate chest from nightmare clan boss, you're pretty set on exotic equipment; doubly so when you can get top chest of ultimate nightmare clan boss

just need to remind yourself that your account has miles of progression available to you, a new legend/awakening/empowerment/fusion will benefit your account and help progression but thats such a small factor, now theres building the champ, building the food, masteries, gearing, ascensions, and then fitting them into a team.
    getting the soul is easy
getting the champ is the hard part
building and implementing them all is borderline impossible

I kinda feel this video because I wanted legendaries because I thought it would make me progress more but then I realized I had good legendaries and I couldn't build them and there was nothing wrong with my current teams btw I'm FTP

I bought Xena and i don't even see her much in arena. So yes i feel mixed. I love xena but she just reminds me of that 20 dollar price tag as she stays in my collection. I only use her in fractions wars and cursed city contents. I looked at builds but i have epics that deal more damge then her. So no more spending. no more tempted by the 2.99$ shard i could use for to try and get a certain champion i need lol. I love raid i stay on it becasue i have buddies who still play it now. So this video hits me a bit. Haha. But plaruim is definitely out if touch with these events!

Played this game a little while ago and came back recently. This time I’m an adult with a job so I spent some money, which I’ve done on previous games and I’ve stopped playing all of them(I don’t regret it though). I played for a month and saw Ash’s vid with Boozor and I actually decided to start over again but this time to purposely be F2P, as previously I was forced to be f2p due to being in high school still. I just saw myself being in the continuous “just 10 bucks this month, no more spending till next month, okay this one pack and then no more spending.” Just my experience with this game and how addicting it is to spend money
