It's lovely praise coming from someone who adores the original. VoicePlay seems to excel at creating unique covers that still honor the original.

Loved how you took your time with the credits at the end and gave everyone their proper flowers!! Voiceplay does their own arranging, production, video, lighting, costumes, makeup (which you'll gat an appreciation for in some other releases). They have no label. They do everything themselves! Subscribed for more!! Valhalla Calling should be next. Enjoy the ride!!

I am so glad you loved this version. I have been a long-time Metallica and Voiceplay fan for several years, and I love Geoff's (the bass) arrangement. The rabbit hole is long and well worth the journey. Hope you decide to react to more of their work.

You won't go wrong with VoicePlay- all of their work is top tier, regardless of genre. I'm pretty well convinced that there's nothing they can't do- they have tackled so many things that just don't seem like they'd work in an a cappella format, and not only done so successfully but- as you saw here- in astonishingly creative and engaging ways. VoicePlay are so much more than just a vocal group, as all of their productions are created by the members instead of by outside labels, managers or directors. Geoff or Layne (and sometimes Eli) handle the arrangements and videography, Eli is a masterful lighting engineer and also provides effects work using software like Unreal Engine, and Layne co-owns a video production studio where many of their videos are shot.
In terms of suggestions of where to go next, it's really hard to say because what VoicePlay do is so diverse. What I tend to tell reactors is to find something on their channel that interests them, and start there. You're never going to be disappointed; there are moments in pretty much every performance that will make your jaw drop, but they're not heavy handed with them. They are also exquisitely tuned in to the emotional tenor of a song, and are absolute geniuses at connecting with their music on an emotional level that really carries over to the listener. All of which to say, you can't go wrong, so just dive into the rabbithole and have fun! (For additional fun, check out Geoff Castellucci's solo channel. You've heard him go low; you still haven't heard how high he can go. It's unreal.)

Left to right, Geoff Castellucci, bass, his arrangement, his vision, his production, J None, baritone, was a member from 2018 to 2021, left to sing for the US Navy, he comes back frequently to sing with them, Eli (ellie) Jacobson, tenor and rock beast, also arranges and produces, Cesar de la Rosa, baritone, newest member, replaced J None, definitely does not stay in the baritone lane, Layne Stein, beatbox, baritone, VioLayne, also arrangest and produces.
Geoff and Layne were original members, the name of the group was changed to Voiceplay in 2011. Another original member, Earl Elkins Jr, high tenor, left in 2020 and has not been replaced.
They are amazing. Try their version of In the Air Tonight (Layne's arrangement) and Creep (Eli's arrangement).
    Subscribed in anticipation.

Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatboxer) are original members back to middle school and 1997 for their first group named 4:2:Five. Earl was also an original member (high tenor) until he left 3.5 yrs ago for personal reasons. In 2010, Eli (bald tenor) joined them after being in a couple of rock/metal bands. A little after Eli joined, the had a baritone leave for other ventures and they picked up Tony Wakim. They also changed their name to VoicePlay, were in the Sing-Off, did 2 tours with them. Tony really wanted to get into productions so Tony and Layne bought a studio where most of their music (including Geoff's solos) are done. They brought on J None which lasted until about 3 yrs ago when the US Navy recruited him for their chorus. When he left he said he'd be back although it was hard to get from the Pacific NW to Orlando, FL until recently he has been promoted to Washington DC and it makes it easier for him to fly in for a video. He still has another 2 yrs so we will see what happens. But because 3 yrs ago, they were down 2 vocalists, they brought on Cesar who can cover either baritone or high tenor leaving VoicePlay to choose a guest vocalist from any range they'd need or like. Check out In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), Creep (RadioHead), Tennessee Whiskey (Chris Stapleton), Queen in 5 Minutes, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, We're Good (Dua Lipe) and hundreds more.

Welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole, you're in for one wild time. Voiceplay always gives tribute to the original while making the song their own.
You might also want to check out Geoff's Solo Channel. Another wild Rabbit Hole where he shows off his 5 octave range (all the harmony parts are him or his clones)
So you've see their vocal abilities (beyond amazing) I'll recommend some of their more theatrical productions:
    Hoist the Colours
    Valhalla Calling
    Friends On the Other Side
    Drunken Sailor
    Sleeping in the Cold Below
    Shero Returns
    The Dragonborn Comes
    And many many more
Thanks for your reaction, looking forward to your next one 😊

Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay. The 'Bass Dude' is Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci and he is totally amazing and has a 5 octave range. J None is the one next to Geoff. Eli Jacobson (pronounced like Jelly) is the one in the middle, Cesar Delarosa is next to Eli and Layne Stein is the beatboxer. I have subscribed to see more VoicePlay & hopefully Geoff reactions.
I would recommend their version of: Black Hole Sun; Dream On; Seven Nation Army: Creep; Drunken Sailor; Hoist the Colors; If I were a Rich Man/Girl; The Lion Sleeps tonight: Hellfire and my favorite is Valhalla Calling.
for Geoff, I would recommend: Far Over the Misty Mountain Cold; I see Fire; Ain't No Sunshine; 16 Tons; Unshaken and Wicked Game.
Enjoy the VoicePlay & Geoff Castellucci rabbit hole.

J.None was a member of VoicePlay for some years but left in 2021 to sing with the US Navy music section. He comes back to join them when on leave from his duties. He currently is a member of the Sea Chanters, based in Washington. He ist next to Geoff Castellucci , the bass. Eli (say it as ellie) Jacobson is the rock singer in the middle, Layne Stein is the beatboxer and violinist, and the remaining member is Cesar de la Rosa, from Puerto Rico, who is the newest group member, since 2021. A fiddle and a violin are the same thing. It's just called a fiddle as a less formal name when playing more country style music.

  • @huldradraco
    @huldradraco Před 5 měsíci +9

a fiddle and a violin is the exact same instrument. they just call it a fiddle when it's played in a more country/bluegrass/Celtic/folk style , and a violin when it's more in a classical style.

Thank you for reacting to this - but now you've entered the rabbit hole! Layne is also known as VioLayne, but it's rare for him to pull out his violin. We fans get a little nuts when it happens. Geoff arranged this one. They release a performance about once a month, usually on Friday or Saturday at noon EST, and they are due. Geoff Castellucci, the bass, also has his own channel, where he also releases once a month. All of them are amazing musicians and performers. If you want to get a look at their comedy side, watch "What do we do with a drunken sailor," If you're a gamer, perhaps Dragonborn Comes or Halo will catch your interest. Whatever you decide to watch, the music will be flawless.

The beatboxer's name is Layne Stein and her is your introduction to VioLayne. Yes, they are an a cappella group but Layne plays the violin in 2 or 3 numbers, with J None (the black guy with the smooth voice) joining him with his own violin in one of them. Addendum: I see you've reacted to a couple of Pentatonix's songs. Please don't pass by the third of the triad of a cappella The Sing-Off alumni who are good friends with each other. Home Free won season 4 of The Sing Off, the season VoicePlay was in. Those 2 groups have worked together several times, both in front of and behind the cameras. The first time was VoicePlay vs Home Free Zombies vs Hillbillies Survivor. Also look for the 2nd, slightly different, live stage version of that number.
