@@rosieeubank Have you rehoused yours yet? I have one that I am nervous to rehouse but mostly because I put it in dumb enclosure and didn't think about the rehousing in the future.
Hey Tom, I’m a new keeper but have been binge watching your channel for a few months before I picked my first few T’s up. My B. emilia can sure boogie but I’m surprisingly calm and can problem solve rather quickly. After a month of having 4 slings and successfully problem solving husbandry issues, I decided I felt comfortable enough to pick up one that wasn’t a tiny brown spider. I grabbed a juvenile T. vagans this past Sunday with little to no information about it other than the $40 rehoming fee and that it had recently molted and received its adult colors. I quickly found out how skittish they are and really clung to their burrow. I rehoused her and the other day I watched her for 5 hours construct a massive tunnel and settle in. Amazed at the ease I’m having I decided to binge watch and research my next few. I saw this video and knew I had to have one. I also have a deep love for the shy ones and the webbers. I picked her up yesterday and I’m obsessed already. I’d love to chat over email and maybe video call because as you can tell I’m quite wordy. I love these guys and have a new special interest haha. P.S. Also super into horror movies and cats

We adopted a Trinidad Olive a month ago😊. Learned some new info here!, thank you! Our mature male hasn't webbed much at all. I feel I must be doing something wrong😮.
That's awesome! I love this little girl. If your male is mature, the only webbing he will likely do is making a sperm web. Once mature, they normally wander around looking for females, so they don't web up after that.
Lucky enough to have both N Incei olive and N Incei gold, I find my olive very shy, doesn't like to be out of the web or substrate very often. When I do see a rare glimps of the carapace and abdomen, wow, they are so pretty 😍 The gold on the other hand, always out perched on the webbing, again a pretty tarantula. Temperment wise, slowly calming down though in general s/he is a bit of a psycho, nothing phases it and one of my best eaters for a grown on sling. Off to the last invert show of the year here in the UK today, after 2 pokies, a P subfusca lowland and a P ornata (my sling passed 2 days ago), who knows what else I may or may not wander out with 🤣
Those are some great observations, Vanessa! I will definitely have to try again with a gold. Mine were all males, so they were quite visible as they looked for ladies. And I hope that you get some good ones...good luck!
Man, I just picked up an inch Incei a few days ago and yes, they can boogie for sure lol. It bounces around like a pinball but it’s calmed a bit since it’s got some webbing going. Cool species.

Thank you! I was hoping you would revisit this species. Thank you for getting back to me on the mushroom situation too. They were these white ones. The one I have is extremely skittish. To the point it ducks and hides when of it just senses me breathing in the other direction. But it’s so pretty so I forgive it’s weirdness. It has made these beautiful tunnels and I watched it as it carried bits of substrate and used it to reinforce the tunnels. It was hours of relaxing fun😅 it’s a terrible eater though. It comes up to the top to smack the tiny cricket and run. Pre-molt! I though till it grabbed one and ate. 😅
I (hopefully) have one of these living wild in my home. Was about 3inches maybe a little less. Had her in a 32oz deli cup. Took the lid off to feed, fed the cricket. I set the lid on top with out pushing it all the way down because I knew I needed to fill the water dish. Got distracted or something and never went back. Came in the next morning and she was gone. My only escape and now am anal about checking all lids and doors before I leave for the night. Now whenever I lose a cricket in the house I say well theres food for the incei lol.
*Off topic. I don't know if you already have one of if there is a good reason not to but do you think you can make a breeding guide video? At least the general guidelines
Hey Tom,gorgeous spiders,I had 1 and the gold one both mine matured Male and passed on,they are great to own yes a little skittish but never defensive and they fed well.i would like to get me some more.
Hi ❤ what a beauty she is ❤ ex-Chromatopelma-keeper here 😅 Strong allergic reaction on utricating hair forced me to give her away 💔 I've read online that incei don't have these hair, or at least they do not cause such allergic reaction... How much truth is there in this, I wanted to ask? Would it be a good species for someone with strong allergic reaction to mid-strong utricating hair? Would it cause smaller reaction, or no reaction at all? I'd be incredibly grateful for an answer ❤
Mine is like 1.75-2”. I rehoused it into a 6x4x4 container. Too small? Should I go up to 8x6x6 or just get the 8” hex crib from tarantula cribs. Not much room to web up having only 4” of depth.
That will probably work for a while, although she will likely web it up very quickly. You'll likely have to go a bit larger sooner or later. Mine has completely webbed up this enclosure.

Tom, in the past you've been pretty open regarding criticism of your pronunciations. Please allow me to take part in the fun! First, a question. Do you pronounce "Orphnaecus philippinus" the way you do because you don't want to say "penis" on CZcams? Second, you're saying "sphagnum" wrong. You pronounce it like one might pronounce "spaghetti" when it should be pronounced akin to "sphere". I may be wrong about this, but it's highly unlikely due to the fact that I know everything. :D One last question. I recently heard you mention on one of your podcast episodes that you trained in martial arts for some time. What style? Competition, self-defense, or were you one of those goofy introspective internal Chinese folks that train on the steps of temples n'stuff? Why'd you stop (assuming you did)? Thanks in advance, and I hope everything's going well! P.S. I recently referred to you as "The Godfather of the modern American tarantula hobby" in a post on Facebook. This may embarrass you or make you feel uncomfy. Too damned bad. The influence you've had, and continue to have, on this hobby is remarkable. Much respect, sir. 🤟🙏🕷
First, I have a question for YOU, Brian: WHY THE HELL DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME THAT I WAS BUTCHERING SPHAGNUM YEARS AGO???? Bahahaha Seriously, I can't believe that no one brought that up before now! I just did a podcast, and I definitely said it correctly this time. haha You are correct...and I am a dingus. BAHAHAHAHA I have also been waiting YEARS for someone to ask about the O-fill-O-penis. Yes, it comes down to the fact that I giggle every time I pronounce it as "fill-O-penis." Man, it feels good to finally let that out. haha As for Karate, we trained in Okinawan Go Ju Ryu for years. It's the style that Karate Kid made famous (minus the infamous "Crane Kick"). haha We did tournaments for years, and I also trained with more of an MMA focus because the style, although good, was limited to stand up. There was a bunch of use who would basically have a "fight night" on Friday evenings where were would spar heavily and work groundfighting and boxing as well. The main black belt that I trained with was also a gold gloves boxer, black belt in judu, and college wrestler, so we worked it all. Before I went back to finish my degree for teaching, I gave serious thought of trying out MMA, as they would run events at the local casinos and they would use local guys for the prelim matches. In the end, I was getting older and starting to break down, so I stuck to teaching. haha Did you train as well? And STOP embarassing me...what did we talk about? :) Haha Seriously, I appreciate it. Thank you for this comment as it actually injected a bit of fun into this. haha

Hello Tom, I did buy the Incei gold, I love her, she is beautiful. Will be doing a rehouse very soon so hopefully she will behave herself, kind regards, Joanne 🐺
Cool looking wee Ts them I think one of the slings I have bought as an unknown might be one
That's awesome, Michael!
@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks Tom
I had bad luck with these, too. They're really cool spiders but both my gold and my olive went from tiny slings to mature males in just over 2 years so now i have none. They're really pretty and I love the way they web. 🖤
Yup, I hear you there! So help me God...If I get ONE more male. haha
Is this one of the miniature T's? She looks so sweet and went into her new cage so well.
Yes, Joyce! These guys stay quite small. They are sooo cute, though!
@@TomsBigSpiders They really are!
It's a underrated T lovely golden ✨️ and the webbing is amazing of those species!
I agree completely! :)
Just recently got a little sling it's my 4th t my first was an LP so quite the opposite 😂 also have a red knee and curly hair ,the Trinidad olive has had a moult already And already has amazing colours
You've got a great collection going there!
I always collect the bark in the woods nowdays. I find it works as good as the corkbark
I tried using some stuff from outside, but I got a TON of mould. You don't have that issue?
@@TomsBigSpiders Sometimes, but often not. Important to use dead old bark. Cleaningcrew and other organisms seems to hold back the mold. I dont see it as a problem, but if the wrong bark is used it may be
Hey, Mausami Rai! Yeah, I've raised so many of them that I was actually shocked that I never covered it before. Hahaha Yours sounds quite adorable!
Watching just to see what they look like. I have one but haven't seen it since I put it in it's enclosure lol
This is only the second time I've seen this one! haha
Love this species so much I got another one after my 1st matured male. Hope I can get a female with my 2nd
Fingers crossed this one is a lady. I have high hopes! haha
5:40 "my home is gone. Where? How?"
And then later...Oh, there it is. Thank GOD. haha
Oh no! Hopefully, you find her someday!
*Off topic. I don't know if you already have one of if there is a good reason not to but do you think you can make a breeding guide video? At least the general guidelines
I don't have anything interesting to say today so this is a comment I'm leaving only for algorithm-pleasing reasons. No need to reply to it.
Hahahaha And I truly appreciate that...thank you! And I can't help but to reply; it's a compulsion. haha
Hey Tom,gorgeous spiders,I had 1 and the gold one both mine matured Male and passed on,they are great to own yes a little skittish but never defensive and they fed well.i would like to get me some more.
I agree completely, James! They are awesome little spiders! Thank you for always taking the time to comment!
The Trinidad Olive, why does that make me want Italian food!? LoL 😂
I know, right? haha
Do you ever have some gnat wars? And how do you best fight them.
I did several years ago. Those things were driving me nuts. I ended up using predatory mites. After a month, no more gnats!
NGL, when I initially read the title of the video, I thought it said, 'Neo-hollow-hell Incel". *Oops*😆
Hahahaha I can see that.
🕷👍👍👍
Thank you, Tom!
Could you feed slings confused flour beetle larva?
I've never used them myself, but I know that some folks do.
I have gold and olive both hooked out male.
I feel that. haha
Mine is like 1.75-2”. I rehoused it into a 6x4x4 container. Too small? Should I go up to 8x6x6 or just get the 8” hex crib from tarantula cribs. Not much room to web up having only 4” of depth.
I must say it was in a dram vial. And had crazy tunnels. It was never rehoused! Until now
That will probably work for a while, although she will likely web it up very quickly. You'll likely have to go a bit larger sooner or later. Mine has completely webbed up this enclosure.
@@TomsBigSpiders thank you. In regards to the Davus Panama what’s the lifespan from what u can tell
@@Mudo94 About 3 years for a male (that's how long mine lived) and probably about 10 for a female.
I put 8 from the same sack together but have split them when it got down to 3.
Awwww...sorry to hear that. Luckily, I only lost one. I won't be trying that again.
@@TomsBigSpiders I didn't know how bad it was because they were well hidden as slings.
@@grahamlloyd6105 Oh, I wasn't judging at all! I hope that it didn't come across that way. I lucked out when I spotted one trying to eat another out in the open. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known. Sorry!
@Tom Moran I didn't think for a second you were. I just wish I'd have looked earlier.
Is there a heating mat you recommend?
What are your temps in your home, Melly? I normally don't have to used them.
@@TomsBigSpiders I live off the grid, so it could get 30 degrees if I don’t run my propane continuously. So I’d like to find a heating source I can run off my solar generator
One last question.
First, I have a question for YOU, Brian:
WHY THE HELL DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME THAT I WAS BUTCHERING SPHAGNUM YEARS AGO????
Bahahaha Seriously, I can't believe that no one brought that up before now! I just did a podcast, and I definitely said it correctly this time. haha You are correct...and I am a dingus.
BAHAHAHAHA I have also been waiting YEARS for someone to ask about the O-fill-O-penis. Yes, it comes down to the fact that I giggle every time I pronounce it as "fill-O-penis." Man, it feels good to finally let that out. haha
As for Karate, we trained in Okinawan Go Ju Ryu for years. In the end, I was getting older and starting to break down, so I stuck to teaching. haha
Did you train as well?
And STOP embarassing me...what did we talk about? :) Haha Seriously, I appreciate it. Thank you for this comment as it actually injected a bit of fun into this. haha
9:20 i just got my (L1-L2) and it's freaking killer, it's even kill bigger prey then himself (turkish roach).
That's great!
Can't these be housed communally?
I discuss this towards the end.
Gotta say these are pretty cool dwarf ts and pretty heavy webbers to which is cool and the color changes on the normal from baby to adult is pretty cool to reminds me of a baby bee or wasp with the striping on abdomen and did manage to pair the gold form here a buddy had a mm luckly and I wasn't gonna do it cause I've been told they can double clutch and have a crazy amount of babies so far she had a dmall sack had quite a bit of infertil eggs lost quite a few ewls and first instar but got a pretty good portion of golds to normals from pairing gold mom normal male she dropped a sack in less then 30 days from pairing I pulled the sack at 20 or 25 days they were done ewls which was pretty cool my trick to getting the lil stinkers to eat dwarf white isopods add about 5 or so of em its a slow enough prey they can catch easy bit I still add baby reds
Hey, Eric! I LOVE the webbing myself, and they are quite pretty. And that's awesome! I didn't know that this was one of the double clutch species!
