I lost my father to cancer at the age of 21. It was also the first death I ever experienced. I stayed strong for the rest of my family. Until the day of the funeral.
We waited at home for the guests to go to the funeral with them. My mother was there, my sister and my grandparents. The doorbell rang and my best friend was standing there in a black suit. Completely black. Everyone else had something colorful with them. He was completely in black. That was the moment I collapsed, completely suddenly.
That was the moment when everything became clear. My father was dead. I went to my room alone and cried for the first time. I allowed myself.
Then suddenly my grandma, my father's mother, came in without knocking. She saw me, came to me, looked at me tightly and said "Stop crying, pull yourself together, you still have to drive". In a tone I will never forget. This woman is ice cold. There was nothing warm-hearted. There was no heart at all. That day was the last time I had spoken to her. Her whole personality was already repulsive and absolutely contrary to my personality in every possible way. That was just the drop that broke the camel's back.
That was 20 years ago. Since then, I have had to bury my grandparents (on my mother's side), my uncle, my sister and, more recently, my grandfather. My grandmother, of whom I was just talking, I buried last. The only death where I didn't cry one tear. Nobody has that, by the way. How sad is that? A person dies and no one cries.
70% of all suicides are men. Why? Because of people like my grandma. Nonsensical, unnatural behaviors based on some nonsensical etiquette, invented and enforced by people who were not satisfied with themselves and had to deceive others. And so that these people are not alone, they have infected others with it in order to feel better about themselves. And to be able to harass the people who don't have the same "strength". And this over generations As standard etiquette for men.

Yeah ... I lost both of my grandparents within a year of each other ... but my dad's mom ... she had cancer under her arms ... and her husband had been wrapping her up with bandages so it wouldn't be seen ... for about a year ... when the hospital finally took them off, they realized why she'd been sick... they could've saved her ...
When he died 3 years later, didn't cry a single tear ... I was her favorite kid ... that kind of human coldness definitely leaves an imprint ... 😞

Thanks for sharing the story about your dad. I experienced something similar when my grandmother passed away. We were extremely close and I always imagined that I’d lose myself when she died… but I didn’t. I still haven’t cried about it and she passed over 20 years ago.
About the video and aurora in general… I really like that she’s not ashamed or afraid to point out things about how we’ve become as a society (like men not being allowed to cry or have emotions outside of that kind of macho bullshit)… listening to her music is kind of like looking at ourselves in a big mirror showing us all the places we are cracked, chipped or broken… but also how we are beautiful too. I think that’s what I get out of her music the most.
    Thanks for the reaction.

You hit it on the head again. She wrote this after learning that the majority of suicides are done are by men, and she felt that maybe it had to do with the stigma of men not being allowed to show their emotions.

I’m a little late, but great reaction! I always interpreted the petals falling at the end as being other people’s emotions. After she stopped trying to cut off her emotions, it opened her up to others who shared similar feelings. So, it made her realize that she wasn’t alone, and that’s why she gets covered in the petals at the end.

Hi Chris, the music is so happy and upbeat. This is certainly meant to reinforce the meaning that crying is or has something good about it. At AURORA, music and lyrics always belong together. Was it a coincidence that an AURORA song of all things revealed your feelings about the loss of your father?
AURORA wants to create exactly such effects with her songs. And she does it. That makes the difference between a singer and an artist.
    Have a nice time and

This song has so positive message and love it. As always Aurora does not sing about some shallow things but things that are important for her (and not only for her). I also love the idea of the video with easy to understand but so wise symbols in it. The only thing I am not totally sure is the last seconds of video :).
Ps. As far i know Aurora wrote this song after she read about higher percentage of suicides among men. And it is maybe because society tells them to be "strong" and does not show emotions.

Thank you so much for being a SHINING EXAMPLE for other (HU)man to follow. MUSIC IS HEALING, AURoRA is HEALING, reaction videos like this are healing 🥰🤗💗💕💞
Because of different experiences, I've had to master my emotions my entire life. Put a lid on them. Over time, as a result of not letting out the anger and sorrow, I got/get overwhelmed, and often cry because I have no words to explain my feelings. "my cup runs over". And my EX, with his story and scars, said to me; "You know what? The least attractive about you, is the crying."
I had buried my head in my hands, to avoid him seing my tears.Hiding who I was. I lifted my head, and looked at him, with tears streaming down my face.
"You know what? What you just said, tells volume about you, and little about me."
YES, BE FREE as you say. Allow youself to have emotions. Pure, raw emotions - for cleansing of the heart and soul. If more people where honest about their emotions, and allowed the "RIVER to RUN", we'd have less mental illness.
Pure Raw feelings to heal. NOT use emotions to manipulate, to gain a certain outcome, to twist the truth and manipulate those who are closest.

I think its so ingrained in out brains as men that we "shouldn't" cry because it looks weak to us but even when people tell men its ok you can cry, a lot of women are still out here saying men who cry are babies and wusses and even if a woman is ok with it, I still feel like I shouldn't cry ever and it sucks especially with depression Im just stuck emotionless almost.
