  • Let’s have the Pharrell at Louis Vuitton discussion, cause it’s a lot more nuanced than most other fashion brands, because historically, it’s not actually a fashion brand!

      @@johndeere3486 the fashion show is one of their main ways to advertise the goods they are going to sell each season.
      you could say it isn't the best way but it could have been rooted in the big part of the traditional way which fashion brands use to present their items to the media and the masses.
      or you could say "it is an advertisement"
      oh fun fact : LV sells every time they do these runways. but mostly their accessories are sold.
      PS.(even tho no one has reacted to my comment yet but here is more information) the fashion show is also an investment. if it worked out then the critic (often get paid to say good things) will rule out their thoughts and with the teams help they will make it sellable to the masses aka. publish it to normal everyday people life to get more engagement in order to lure more costumer.

    As an Indigenous American I have been seeing from the Internet community of Indigenous Peoples, the collection is not being perceived well. Tokenism is a word highly used to describe this collection.

    • @BlueStarBurns
      @BlueStarBurns Před 4 měsíci +11

      Is this not also appropriation and commodification of indigenous craftsmanship? Is any of the jewllery made by indigenous craftspeople? Are they benefited by this collection? These are questions that come to mind when I see fashion houses engaging in similar behavior. Of course, it's not just LV but many houses including Dior, that constantly copy and appropriate patterns or entire garments, jewllery etc from cultures that they give no credit or monetary compensation to. I would like people to instead directly support local and indigenous artisans rather than give their money away to large fashion houses.

      @@tinachristine4573 I have read that the creative director "worked with indigenous artists". The extent of their contributions was not mentioned and they were unnamed. I specifically asked if the jewllery was made by indigenous artisans, I have not found relevant information on that. What are the concepts that "people" love to jump on? Appropriation? Commercialisation of indigenous heritage? Capitalism? Colonialism? I have in fact done research on those topics at a postgraduate level. Do indigenous people have a right to say that they didn't like the tokenistic approach of this collection, or have they not done sufficient research to appease you?
