    Sherman.. I don’t have 1 single alocsia but I will always watch and support your efforts. You look amazing and I know that last weeks are so very hard..physically and emotionally.. it will all be worth it when you meet and hold Archie.. when you see the bond between him and pudge grow and you get your body back 😉 enjoy your leave and I will miss you but send you love 💕

    I love your Alocisia collection. I have never had many ,if any . I find them to be to deva for me . But I have a funny story ......i got a plant delivered, and i was confused because I didn't order one . I opened it, and it was an Alocisia Reticulata. It is beautiful, but I didn't know why it was at my door. I looked at the invoice, and it was from a place i had ordered from before. I looked at the date " date ordered April 03 2022 " date shipped March 18 2024 " 😮 . I thought, wow, that was a while ago, so very weird . She is beautiful but wow, what a wait , so long . Thanks for reading. Sorry it was so long . ❤

    I sprinkle cinnamon on all of my out/inside plants because its an antifungal, thus making it hard for fungus gnat larvae to survive (their food source dies), I also heard chamomile tea works well. I actually also use it whenever I get a bit of rot on any of my plants and that has been the key to my keeping +14 alocasia. An elderly person told me once, and its been a big game changer, which is why I'm back on the alocasia craze with much more confidence.

    About Alocasia flowers:
    I've read up on LariAnn Garner who is considered very knowledgeable on Alocasia (she was the original hybridizer of Regal Shields and many more!)
    Cutting the flowers disrupts their hormonal cycle so instead of pushing 2-3 at a time and going back to leaves they will start to produce flower after flower until the flowering season is over so to say. Of course cutting flowers is your perogative but it is usually too late to cut them the moment we realize they are flowers and not leaves and as mentioned the plant would just try to produce more and more instead of switching to leaves.
    It seems best to assume a healthy mature alocasia is going to flower about once a year. Letting her do her thing and just supplying loads of ferlizer 😂

      @Wanderlust2602 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I have recently stumbled upon this information as well and trying to respect the flowering cycle of my Scalprum. So far it has two flowers and no leaf loss, but I’m definitely nervous. I am fertilizing vigorously +blasting it with light. I like the idea of respecting a plant’s natural cycle.

    I do the shallow puddle / water method for Alocasia corms! They usually sprout very quickly (within a couple of weeks to a month depending on the type) ❤
    I've had the best luck so far with that method (I won't buy fluval) and perlite seems to be hit or miss for me.
    The water method to start them off at least 😅

    Regarding gloves:
    try looking for nitrile gloves. They are usually a tighter fit, and meant to be worn so they arent all crinkly. I use them for cooking as i have some sensory issues, and they are easier to work with than normal plastic gloves.

    I gave up on Alocasia last year. I find they like moist conditions in there growing mediums. So pon is the best substrates or self watering pots. What really annoying is there dropping stems. Also there blooms. I never had spider mites with them which alot of people mentioned. When i was pregnant with my child is best to not have too much sugar intake if you can help it. As it increases weight gain and also can affect pregnancy complications. Lucky i was craving more savoury foods instead. Towards the end of my second trimester i cut back on sugar intake.

    I viewed this when your first uploaded and had to run out the last 15 minutes so I'm back. I did have a question, why do you use laca in the bottom of your visuals? I have learned a lot watching you. Because of you I have Alocasia Poly that had corums that I successful put in my prop box and it has produced six plants. I just potted four them in Perlite and one is still in moss. I actually had two plants that both died or went dormant and has since come back. I had purchased Alocasia soil & added a little perlite when I repotted the morhers however I don't think they like it because after two months, the leaves turned yellow and died.. Actually I repotted my first one and the second one I got from Lowe's and it went dormant after ten days. Missed placed receipt so I couldn't take it back.

    Have you observed any issues when the myco is left inside the pot for too long? Thanks!

    You seriously need to get smaller gloves. Look for a medical supply house and you can go in there to buy the extra small ones. If you can’t in Canada, then have your mom pick some up in California and bring with her.
