  • @BrotherTree1
    @BrotherTree1 Před 27 dny +78

    Jarry knows how to play Tsitsipas with confidence as evidenced by historical meetings so this shouldn't come as a shock. He's got the mental edge in this match-up whilst Tsitsipas has the mental block as we saw his struggles to convert or hold onto opportunities throughout the 2nd and 3rd sets, and crumbled into pieces whilst serving to stay in the match at the end of both sets. It was a dramatic epic that went from sunlight into the night. Tsitsipas needs time to set up his shots... he's not great at half volleying to reset the rallies, so when his timing gets robbed or disrupted on the baseline, he's usually in shambles tactically, especially from the backhand wing. And Jarry exploited that with his power game. He's similar to del Potro in some ways, and so I wonder how Tsitsipas would have coped against a prime del Potro... my guess is, probably not very well either.

    • @nicholasdemetriades9154
      @nicholasdemetriades9154 Před 27 dny +1

      Good analysis! However, Tsi. needs to keep Jarry more honest by hitting some back hands down the line. Jarry was just waiting for the approach to his backhand. In addition Tsi. could use some more cross court angle forehand (that is if Jarry doesn't crush q forehand!) and open up the court some to make Jarry hit the passing shots on the run.

    • @ManelTinoco
      @ManelTinoco Před 27 dny +5

      the way Stefanos netted the match point... at least Delpo has one Slam. Stefanos will be remembered as a proper player, perfectly able to win at a couple of Slams, never to hold a trophy. He needs to ditch Apostolos. Needs to absolutely reset his backhand technique, both D and Offensively. Needs to work even harder. As long as he stays with his dad on his corner, he'll never snatch a big trophy. But hats off to Jarry: plowed through the Greek's serve and backhand, just stood his ground... this is not an upset by Stefano's current standards (#8). He's made as many GS finals as Ruud. Neither of them will win a Slam. Tsitsipas lacks the mental edge. Ruud lacks everything else. They're not consistent nor that hungry for proper silverware as they should.

    • @alexlackner1945
      @alexlackner1945 Před 27 dny +3

      @@nicholasdemetriades9154 Stef's backhand down the line isn't his greatest shot and he avoided the Jarry running forehand for a reason after suffering a few laser beams during that match. Staying in the backhand crosscourt really just seemed the safer option and Jarry did commit a few errors on that wing. Curious how Tommy Paul will deal with this onslaught, i guess he will try to mix it up a bit more. But if Jarry keeps his errors in check he should reach the final.

      Zverify has a winning record against lefties b/c he grew up playing his brother. Tabst has yet to face off against someone who serves as well as Sasha is doing in Roma. Zverev & Jarry are the favorites for the final.

      @@diegosotomiranda4107 I said what I said. Take AO '24 R1 as a case study: Klein Blue pushed Serverev, but the match was always on the German's racket & in the end, he won because his base level game was bigger & more consistent. Same goes for Ruby against The Wild Brazilian & Fritz against FDA-approved. The rankings indicate consistency in form & overall mental toughness. Just because lower-ranked opponents can find a way to redline their game & poach sets does not mean it's a free for all in the rankings.

      @HeavyTopspin Před 27 dny +4

      @@got2bjosh There's a delineation, but it's not as severe as it used to be when top players (and not just the big 3 either) could come out, play badly, and still win 6-1,6-2. This was also the case in the 80s and 90s. You don't bring your A game now, you can't count on winning against pretty much anyone in the top 50, or top 100 for that matter. There is FAR more depth today than ever before in the sport.

    Both players played amazing tennis. I really feel for Tsitsipas. This was a big opportunity for him to advance and possibly win another big title like this one. I think a big learning point for him to take away is that he had a total of 15 break point opportunities against Jarry and he was only able to convert 2 of them! That is what I believe cost him the match in the end. Mentally not able to break serve when he absolutely needed to find a way to and had a total of 13 chances to do so and failing to do so on every single one of them. With matches like these, to come out on top, you must find a way to win mentally. Unfortunately for Tsitsipas, it was Jarry that was able to pull through and find that way! .
