  • The best way to experience the route to Scafell Pike is via Lingmell. This is an excellent route from Wast Water offering fantastic views compaired to the Brown Tongue walk.
    After summiting Lingmell there is an easy path to join the main Scafell Pike track. A rocky ascent up to Scafell Pike takes us up to the highest point in England before moving on to the main event, Lord's Rake. This grade one scramble is for the experienced walker. It is little visited and both stages are a challenge. Once complete, the hike to Sca Fell is thankfully short but great. Sca Fell, although much less visited is the second highest peak in England. From here, we work our way down to the campsite at Wast Water.
    Although this is a tough walk, it is absoloutly amazing and well worth the energy to have such great memories.

    I can’t help but sympathise with you. Such a humble soul. A good egg.

    Thoroughly enjoyable watch. Thanks for sharing. Descending lords rake should be avoided. Coming down that section on to Lords Rake looked precarious. I can’t recall it being that loose but that was several years ago. That looked a risk too far. I try to avoid Scarfell Pike if possible as too many people. I get annoyed at those with no decent footwear and no map route map.

      I’m glad you enjoyed it Colin, thanks for the comment👍 Yes, it was very loose in the wet, possibly less hairy on a dry day. Nice one for getting it done. As you say, Lords Rake itself if not one to descend, it’s tricky enough just going up😆. All the best on your next adventure ⛰️

    You need a chest harness pal for your camera 😉 well done by the way, looks tricky. I was gonna ask if it's more difficult than pen y fan but it does look more technical.

      I’ll deffo take a look at a harness😆. It is harder than pen y fan but not as tricky as Crib Goch where I was last week, I’ll post that soon. Have a good one out there mate ⛰️🥾👍

    Loved that route Tony. I have a walk planned for the summer to start in the same car park, but go straight up to Lord’s Rake, then branch off up West Wall Traverse. Over Sca Fell and Slight Side then back to the car.

      @@GaryMorris222 you can also go up the corridor route from Borrowdale which will be quieter but still a good route. www.walkupscafellpike.co.uk/lake-district-walk/walk-up-scafell-pike-from-borrowdale/ here is the fly through. I'd recommend the Lingmell route for scenery. Let me know how you get on mate😁

    Must be 45 years since I did Lords Rake I must go back, I don’t think this big rocks at the top of stage 1 were there back in the day as I recall. I think if I went back I would take on the West Wall Traverse rather than stage 2.

    • @trekkingwithtony
      @trekkingwithtony  Před 4 měsíci +1

      You are right, the large boulder that was lodged at the top collapsed in 2016 and is now in pieces. Yes, next time I'm going to take on the West Wall Traverse. It looks like quite a challenge!
