    I have a tip regarding quality when capturing the SteamVR VR view window, especially if you use lots of supersampling in SteamVR, like 300% and above.
    The capture quality will depend on the size of the VR view window, meaning, if you fullscreen it on a 4K display, the captured quality will be better than if you fullscreen it on a 1080p display, even if the OBS canvas is 1080p.
    The reason for this is that the VR view window point-samples from the VR image, leaving most of the rendered pixels unsampled to the VR view window since the VR image is of a lot higher resolution.. So the larger you make the VR view window, the more samples are retained.
    OBS can then downsample the 4K window using high quality filters like Lanczos or Bicubic that take all samples into account, effectivly supersampling a 1080p image from a 4K source.
    The performance penalty of capturing in 4k vs 1080p is about 3% on my 3080.

      @MtnXfreeride Před 4 měsíci +1

      yup, I dont recall this in the video but it explains why my capture looks like 320x240 lol

    • @AuroraLex
      @AuroraLex Před 4 měsíci

      @@MtnXfreeride There is a plugin for OBS called OpenVR input plugin. It captures the headset view directly at full resolution. Its much better. I didn't know about it when writing my previous comment.

    What I I am actually looking for is the 3:15(Both eyes streaming), because if you have a 3D TV all of your friends in the same room can activate the Side-by-side 3D mode, and than everybody on the room can enjoy on TV what someone is playing on VR, which is super fun!

    Thank you very much, that has helped me a lot! When recording is always the base screen resolution of the primary monitor used, which has me only 1920x1080? The VR glasses HP Reverb G2 would have a higher resolution of 2160x2160 pixels per eye. Is the VR image always recorded at 1920x1080? How is that with you? Could you change that - recording 1:1 from the VR image 2160x2160? Would this increase the field of view in the video? I use only VR for simracing. greetings Nik

    I looked for a while for a solution to record the L4D2vr mod and had no luck. Finally i just messed with the settings myself, i was listening to 2-3 videos that said to use window capture but it just kept freezing up or recording the mods broken monitor and not my headset lol, i finally changed it to game capture. Could have saved myself the trouble if i just watched this instead.
    The only issue i face now is stabalization in this janky, yet incredible mod. I think i need LIV, which is next on my radar from your catalogue. But i dread running all these programs on top of programs lol. It's so cumbersome to record quality VR content atm.

    I know this a bit old by now, but I'm trying to record MSFS2020 on a reverb g2, using OBS. I followed your tutorial, but I'm running into a problem. OBS mirrors vrmonitor.exe the entire time - UNTIL I switch into vr mode (ctrl+tab in msfs2020). as soon as I do that, vrmonitor.exe shuts down, and all I record is a black screen. Have you encountered anything like this? And is there a solution?

    @Kinseliplier Před 2 lety +1

    I just started having this problem where when I Record or Stream on Obs while playing a VR Game on Steam VR the camera always looks to the left of where I'm Facing so in the recording you can only see whatever is to the left of my face and not what's in front of me. I have never had this problem before and this just randomly started happening today. I use an Oculus Quest with Virtual Desktop to Play Steam VR on Quest and I play it on a Gaming Laptop and I usually have no Problems.

    I have a few problems with this procedure. First when I capture the VrView window on OBS, I can see my steamVR Home perfectly, even on OBS, but when I get into the actual game, my OBS screen gets stuck in the VRview void with the game image in the middle of it, for some reason it doesn't record the actual game.
    The second problem is that when I open OVR toolkit, I can see the twitch window chat in the SteamVR Home, but when I get into the game it doesn't show up at all. How can I fix?
