    As far as I know, The Celestials created Eternals/Deviants/Humans (with a latent mutant gene) from Homo Erectus and they were always either or. Thanos was, when he was born, the first known being to ever have "Deviant Syndrome" and contain the sum of both Eternals and Deviants. He is something The Celestials didn't intend to create.
    BTW, Black Bolt also shows us a very interesting power scale. He one-shotted Apocalypse with a word, but Thanos took at scream at close range to the face and got a nose bleed. Not what Apocalypse fans want to face, but it's how it is.

    There is nothing to reconcile. Phoenix is an entity that is known to split itself up...and just one little piece can possess tremendous power and take on the giant firebird form. Just look back at Endsong- Phoenix stated that it was shattered into millions of pieces- Jean has been calling back those pieces, but that was so many years ago.
    As for Quentin Quire, he has only absorbed a small fraction of the Phoenix, and now the Phoenix is heading for young Jean Grey, and of course we have King Thane as well. Plus in the future there is the Phoenix Corps with millions of Phoenix hosts (equivalent to the Green lantern Corps)- we saw this when Jean became the Phoenix of the White Crown.

      They needed to with how they set up the rest of the characters. For obvious reasons they couldn't show alo character feats leading up to Infinity War and Endgame, so they had to measure out how everyone would be balanced in the universe they had set up. If they had used comic book Thanos in the MCU then he would have won. Given they also nerfed Hulk and Dr. Strange, but again that's because they would steal the spotlight if they had all their comic book powers.

    • @Wingnutcaseman
      @Wingnutcaseman Před 3 lety

      They all had to be nerfed for MCU. Portraying them with full strength and full feats in a live action movie would look too cartoonish. DCEU didn’t weaken their characters as badly but they too are a shell of their comic book selves.

  • @Neverbetred
    @Neverbetred Před 5 lety +15

    I miss old Mistress Death - no personality making Thanos' actions more a matter of his own psychosis. She could not love or do anything to goad Thanos. It was all Thanos' internal strife that drove him to appease her. You cannot truly "love" something that is beyond "love". They humanized her and ruined the celestial character....again.

    • @Neverbetred
      @Neverbetred Před 4 lety +4

      @Light Yagami - Manipulation requires interest. Death was never interested in Thanos one way or the other.
      Thanos' passions were like Norman Bates' bursts of emotion playing against his dead mother's corpse.
      When later comics had Death playing up to Deadpool and taking more of a humanistic interest in existence, she lost something.
      I don't think conceptual creatures like Death should ever have worldly motivations. Takes away their mystery and magic.
      Needing or wanting to manipulate Thanos is too worldly for a celestial being. IMO.

    • @Neverbetred
      @Neverbetred Před 4 lety +2

      @Light Yagami - her ambivalence is her point in the story. Death showed Thanos no emotion at all during the Infinity Gauntlet. It drove him mad because he perceived that nothing pleased her.
      The story is all about Thanos - his madness didn't need encouragement or manipulation. It was all Thanos. And that was the strength of Death's presence in the story.
      Look at it like a man's struggle to win a lottery - the lottery doesn't manipulate the man. It's existence does drive the personal motivations and narrative of the man obsessed with it.
      Death is the unattainable goal of Thanos.. Not a character.

    • @Neverbetred
      @Neverbetred Před 4 lety +1

      @Light Yagami - Yes. Thanos is psycho. And what I am trying to explain is this: Death doesn't need any action or human emotional condition to be of value in any story.
      She is the personification of death itself, a condition above wants or needs. She cannot hate, love or desire anything because those things are conditions of being alive. Thanos, the Mad Titan, is driven towards something he can never claim - Death's love.
      When Death becomes fascinated with Deadpool, Death should not have been illustrated or portrayed as a love interest, because those emotions are not inherent in Death as described in Marvel.
      Death simply is. And any fascination with someone or thing that can elude it is more like a moth to a flame than "love" or affection.
      Her presence in any story should be more about the character meeting her than any motivation she has.
      I hope I made my position understandable.

      Doomsday is more a mindless beast than a fully self-aware being, so he is, more or less, exempt from the moral responsibility of his actions. But, he is still incredibly dangerous and should be dealt with more permanently.

    Quentin is not a new perfect host for the Phoenix force yet... The phoenix gave him a portion of itself but not all of it... The phoenix also seems to be going after Jean Grey (The ANAD marvel one). The way I understand it they are changing the way the phoenix works. Being a Multiversal entity she does have lots of hosts in different universes but what seems to be happening is that she is going to have multiple hosts in a single universe. It makes sense from an editorial standpoint because whoever holds the power of the phoenix is either corrupted by it, becoming a villain that must be defeated or the universe burns, or becomes so powerful that there is no point in there being any other heroes. It makes sense for them to divy up the Phoenix in "bite size chuncks" ... It makes sense for Thane to become a host because of his power set also... The left touch of death and the right hand of eternal life (encasing in amber). Now that Thane lost his Inhuman powers he has the Phoenix and note that Mistress Death is Standing at his left side in the last image... It just makes sense you know? Any other Theories guys...

    I am very confused. How can Thanos be immortal but dying of some kind of "God cancer"? That seems like one gigantic oxymoron. You can't be immortal AND dying at the same time.

    • @genetlm7104
      @genetlm7104 Před 7 lety +26

      Screech - Immortality just means the ability to live forever. It does not mean immunity to diseases or to physical harm, which is invulnerability.

    • @bajansamurai
      @bajansamurai Před 7 lety +12

      Basically what Generic Fan said, Thanos would never age past his prime but can be killed. His form of immortality is an indefinite lifespan, then that is topped off by all the powers he developed so he was also hard to kill. Like most of the Eternals they would have to have over a certain % of their energy and matter dispersed in order to be killed, and can often still be reconstituted by energy effects/other immortals.
      So no old age, shields & tough skin to resist external damage, healing abilities to repair what damage can be received, and a host of other powers including, surely, the ability to transfer his consciousness (all the cool kids/villains put that in their repertoire at some point), he's also set up clones of himself before and interacted with other versions of himself from earlier or later points in time.
      But then along comes 'god cancer' and eats away at the very structure that empowers his cells to be too efficient to age, stay tough, and generate the levels of power he can at his peak.

    This story idn't capture Starlin's Thanos at all. I don't care what any other writer does until they manage that. Aggressive, thuggish Thanos is boring as all hell. No one even finished Thanos Quest or The Infinity Gauntlet. They read a synopsis that stopped with "Then he battled the Marvel heroes and killed them all, but everything was fine in the end"
    The character development there and in later (particularly, of course, Starlin) stories is totally, completely, and utterly ignored. And then people complain when he tries to rectify that by saying the stupid, thuggish stories weren't actually the character that they obviously weren't. It's no-win: the majority wants a purple rage monster, not Thanos.
    And to continue - I think in a way that Thanos as a character has been ill-served by being entirely defined by "The Infinity Gauntlet," and in particular by the bizarre misunderstanding of that story as a sort of blockbuster crossover full of superhero pyrotechnics where the Avengers fight a super-powered baddie and take him down. "Gauntlet" was, in typically Starlin fashion, a wonderfully trippy headpiece filled with psychedelic imagery and bizarre reality-warping dreamscapes - and, also typical of Starlin, it dispenses with its big-name superheroes in an almost hilariously brusque fashion, with the omnipotent Thanos bumping off the laughably ineffectual remains of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in increasingly morbid and creative ways, like when Frank Miller has Batman fighting the other DC heroes. A-list characters like Captain America, Spiderman, Iron Man, and Wolverine (memorably dispatched by having his bones turned to rubber!) are of far less import to the story than the often underrated mystical heroes like Silver Surfer and Doctor Strange (to say nothing of Adam Warlock), and the whole thing is really a story about what happens when a universe-conquering villain finally conquers the universe, only to realize that even that will never make him happy.
    "Gauntlet" really is the culmination of Starlin's work on Thanos as a character (he really could have left him retired as a farmer on that planet, and if we never saw him again, it would kind of been perfect), but that's just the end or climax of who Thanos is - it's not the entire story. Marvel, by trotting him out as a rote glowering supervillain for their next chain of blockbusters, and throwing his character development into the dumpster at the hands of Bendis and Hickman by regressing him into a petty space bully in a similar vein to DC's Mongul or Dragonball's Frieza show how little they understand the character, and how little they understand the old stories they're currently trying to exploit.

      Which is ridiculous and the writer of that story didn't think it through. Starfox doesn't control people's minds. His power affects emotions. People aren't slaves to their emotions. They don't have to act on what they desire. It's ridiculous that the writer of that story decided, "Yup. Starfox makes people like him, so they can't consent."
      Well of course they can. People don't get to claim they weren't in control of themselves because they felt something. That would justify every murder in the world. "Well I didn't want to kill that person, but they made me angry."
      Ridiculous.

    I really don't see why you would make two separate and misleading text/titles for this video. I don't recall hearing anything about the Phoenix Force and Thanos certainly isn't human and you don't even really make the case for him to be. You'd have to use Alternative Facts/Alternative Science to come to the conclusion that Thanos, an Eternal with a mutated (activated) Deviant gene is equal to a being with homosapien genes. That's like saying Gorilla/Neanderthal/Human, if a human has a active neanderthal gene then they are no longer human, only neanderthal. I get what you may have been thinking, that like humans have mutants, Eternals also have mutants and Thanos is one of them...
