- Hey friends! In this video I'm going to share with you three ways of turning absolutely any sound into a synthesiser using simple techniques in Ableton Live. :)
P.S. Apologies for the clicks and crackles, I had some issues with the audio recording...

I also am the creator of a crazy sci-fantasy world and musical storytelling universe called REALMS. Honestly top tier! Been through COUNTLESS videos trying to figure this out for what seems like forever now, FINALLY came across yours! THANK YOU! And to top it off, you apologize for the clicks and crackles in the audio, was worried something was wrong with my audio until I read that 😂. Absolute win mate.
Thank you so much! I'm really super glad you found the video useful. It's my pleasure to help out. :)
Also, glad to hear the disclaimer about the audio crackles didn't go unnoticed either. 😅
as someone who does live beatbox sampling, I have to say this video was a game changer for me
these techniques are great for real time vocal sourced sound design
thank you for the tutorial, you just saved me sooo much time
You're welcome! 😁 Thanks for watching. :)
That last one was crazy (in a good way). It seems as though with sound design I'm always attempting to create the "right" sound that's in my head. That can be cool at times, but the idea of just discovering a sound without any end goal in mind is a lot more freeing. Great tutorial
I'm glad you liked that last one! I won't lie, I had to really think about the best way to showcase that last one, haha.
My favourite part about sound design is just experimenting, it's so much fun!
Bro!!! That was awesome 🔥🔥💯💯 been searching for past 2months & finally 👍👍Keep doing Bro 😍😍🖤🖤
The last method is what ive been trying to figure out for a long time thank you
You're welcome! Glad I could help out. :)
OMG yessss finally have found exactly what i've been wanting, sick video man!!
I'm glad you l found it useful! Thanks for watching. :)
So good
Thanks for watching! :D
Wery unique tutorial ❤🔥
Thanks for watching! :)
What an amazing method) Thanks for sharing this. Honestly, I try to avoid using synths for anything but basslines. creating something entirely new from samples is much more creative and inspiring than tweaking presets for hours and end up sounding like everyone else.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Good job.. ❤
awesome explanations, the algorithm did right this time by recommending this :D subscribed
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching! :)
Liked and subscribed!
Thank you! :D
Would love to see more Ableton Live videos using Simpler and making/using samples in general. One think that I don't understand about Simpler is how to export all the samples once you get a good slice. I haven't been able to find a way. I also haven't been able to figure out how to delete "bad" slices, for example parts where there's no audio.
I can definitely do more sample videos!
To 'export' the samples from simpler, when you're in 'slice' mode and have found the slices you want, you can right click in the sample area and click on 'slice to Drum Rack'. This will convert all of the individual slices to pads on a Drum Rack. From there you can process each slice differently, and even remove the silent slices, as you mentioned. :)
Third method good for plucks, I suppose)
Definitely a nice way to create a pluck! But depending on the sample you start with it can be great for anything!

Please don't give us so much cool stuff to do in Live, I want to buy more hardware and run out of reasons to ;-)
Great ideas as always, Matt.
😂😂 Live is just so powerful!!
Thanks for watching my friend! :D
I'm having some difficulties with the first method. I wonder if its the sample I chose
It could be! You need to make sure that the sample you choose has a single musical note held for a decent length of time, otherwise you might not be able to get a clean loop. Let me know how you go! :)
When I’m doing the first method I can’t hear my sample. Do you know why this would happen?
There could be a variety of reasons! It could be to do with not sending the track MIDI, the track being muted or something else being solo'd, not having enough volume on the simpler, but I don't really know without more info.
@@matttinklermusic I figured it out, I had to create a midi track and double click to get it in. Thanks for the response
Now how do I make one of these samples longer
I'm not quite sure I understand what you're after.
@@matttinklermusic once I get the sample to play as midi is there anyway to play it where the sample will play the entire time I hit the key cus it cuts off when the part of the sample I have selected ends is there a way to extend it?
You will probably need to loop the sample with the 'loop' button if you're in the classic mode. :)
is there any way to make it not ovbiously loob? it sounds choppy
It really depends on the sample, but the only way is to just experiment with the loop start and end and the crossfade length. Sometimes it's possible to get it seamless, but other times it is really tough. In the context of a whole track it tends to be OK though. :)
You are the best ableton tutor bro thanks for all the knowledge.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching. :)
Something heavily crackling in your mic audio, still good vid...
Yeah I had some sample rate issues with my capture software when recording this video, but I decided I'd keep it instead of re-recording because I was happy with how it turned out. Thanks for watching! :)
This is what the music industrial complex does not want you to know.
this click and dragging does not work
You need to make sure you're dragging onto a MIDI tracj, not an audio track.
0:52 literally never explained how to fucking play the sample….. didnt show hotkey used lmao
Sorry about that! There was assumed knowledge there on my part.
All you need to do is send the MIDI track some MIDI with either a MIDI keyboard, a MIDI clip or by using the computer MIDI keyboard, which you can activate with the 'M' key on your keyboard and then use the middle row of your computer keyboard as the 'white keys'. You will also need to make sure the MIDI track is armed. :)
