You know, Alysa. I was born in Guandzhou too. Now I am a medical professional in an international city not too far away. Just like what you show in the video, Guangzhou always occupies an important place in my heart. The places you went to in your childhood, I went there too. 😊 It seems that we have some form of attachment just because of this wonderful city.

I am German living in Melbourne, Australia. I can’t believe that l almost visited the same places the girl Alysa introduced, and spoke off.
I Love Guangzhou ❤. The Pearl river, the mountains surrounding this vibrant City, where I lived near the Baiyun Mountain, in the Easeland Hotel, my room facing the Mountain, the Entrance 5 min away. I was three times there between 2017-18, and loved every minute. I met lovely people, and yes, Guangzhou changes in a blink of an eye, like many other Cities in China. I wonder, if you can speak Cantonese and Mandarin. My Dr Lee is travelling home tonight to Nanjing, also a vibrant City. Thank you for sharing. You are a very lucky girl to experience different cultures. My children also travelled extensively, lived in Poland, Greece and Australia. Life is a journey. Thank you. Good Day from 🐨🌏

It's been almost 10 years since I've been in Guangzhou, this is like a prompt for me to go back. Thank you Alysa for sharing your important rites of passage, I'm glad this city gave you these wonderful memories and may it always be a special place for you.

So as my story. I was born, raised and currently still work and live here, although there were one or two years I stayed in the US and other countries from time to time. I can speak three major dialogues in Guangdong because my parents are from different parts of the province, which gives me the advantage to get a unique perspective of the Cantonese culture and Cantonese people, my culture and my people, so as your culture and your people.
I am very touched by your story. My father used to have a major liver disease when I was little, it nearly destroyed my not-so-wealthy family, but my mother managed to get through it with the helps from her six sisters and all other relatives. My family used to live north of the city where there was some time that I was too young to stay home alone, so my mother would commute by keeping me aside. My early memories of the city are those red taxi cars, motorcycle taxis, old-schooled white and blue buses, the wooden seats and blue stained windows of the buses and of course the sweaty bus drivers at summer that always yell at you. Sometimes my mother had to beg them for allowing her to carry some oversized belongings from work on the bus. But that all ended after we had a new van to do the job.
It’s interesting that you mentioned the book center, because as a middle school student I used to go to there a lot, sometimes looking for English books too because I love learning English, we might had seen each other from time to time, but it is really cool when I know you in YT now but totally had no idea back then.🤔

I first went to China in 1983 at Dalian in the north. At that time the only cars on the road were taxis, all local people rode bicycles and dressed as Chairman Mao. Since then I have been back many times, the last in Guangzhou 2019 for two months. I have been to so many other places and I always found the ordinary Chinese people welcoming and friendly even though they may not speak English.
I went back to Dalian in 2017, a place in 1983 could have been from a Soviet era lookbook, was now like Gotham City with high-rises, overpasses and underpasses; I took a 300Km/hr train from ther to Shanhaiguan which cost $29 for a 3 hour journey, stayed in Qinhaungdo which was an amazing metropolis, when I said to the local people it was a big city they said 'No... only 7 million people'.
China is an amazing place and changed so much for the better. I love all of the time I spent with Chinese people.
As for politics, that is something else to say which does not belong here.

I really love the story telling, it truly showed the deep history and evolution of Guangzhou and how you are part of those changes. Especially the outro where you used the origin of the Cantonese language and introduced 'This is Guangzhou'. Hits me so hard as a Cantonese speaker as it is a slow dying language even in the place of origin. You purely are a true Guangzhou local.
