Lyle Mays... Gone but never forgotten.
Forever alive in our hearts! 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎹
@@johan_johansson_ ...and deep well souls...
Its here now!! - 'Eberhard' by Lyle Mays R I P its playing non stop in my lounge -what a beautiful track and a wonderful tribute to an amazing keyboard player who was the backbone of the PMG in its hey day . The composition is fantastic and those who contributed did Lyle proud ... Bob Sheppard's sax is notable Thank you all Its a Classic DJEJ
Lyle was and is an amazing spirit. Not only his key playing, his song writing, but synth sound design as well. Asfalls witchits so falls Wichita falls. Epic.
The first time I heard Lyle was on "Exit Ramp." It was his synth, more than Pat's guitar, that I enjoyed about that album.
RIP LYLE...WE CARRY ON WITH YOU IN SPIRIT
No other guitar player could play this. It's Pat Metheny and no one else.
I really like this music! Any version is so precious. It's a time machine that takes me back to my 20 years old.
The recording quality is amazing for a live performance
Truth....
Stay healthy Pat, we need you and your music. So sad about Lyle.
Pat is the master of clean and pure sound. He gathers friends who love the same and we are the recipients of joy to auditory excellence.
I love how this tune keeps evolving for the past 40 years.
The Letter from Home album was released in 1989, 32 years ago... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_from_Home_(album)
@@zhangsun While that is true, the tune pre-dates the album. Pat first wrote the tune in 1979 when on tour in Fulton, MO. Here's a video of the band playing an earlier version of the tune 40 years ago in 1981: czcams.com/video/ePPB7qpuuEs/video.html
I always thought for some reason that Steve Rodby wrote this tune…
@@The.Real.Bakonki Steve did not write any music for the PMG, though he's credited with some of the group improvisations on Quartet.
Better Days Ahead indeed when this whole album is released 👍🏽🙏🏽✌🏽❤️
Every song that Pat does is a soundtrack of some day in my life. Does anyone else feel the same?
Yes , very good metaphore, its like that for other music and artists that touch me too
Keyboardist is ridiculously good. Even crazier when you realize he’s playing the bass at the same time!
+Chris D - 'Bass at same time'?!
Think I can 'hear it'' now after you mentioned that!!
Who is the kybd player, pls?
That's not possible. But apparently it's true...
@@NotYourTypicalNegro
'Oh yes it is, sir.
Seen Kenwood Denard, or 'Herbie'?
And hundreds of Gospel, jazz and Classical organists?'
@@jeffreyfeinstein5525- ya the guy’s name is James Francies he’s only 26. Plays the bass part on a separate keyboard with his left hand. Got to see him play with Pat twice. Frigging nuts!
@@chrisd6736 Thank you!
You saw them recently?
In the same area?
(( Not easy to get over Lyle' and the ol band.
Even Beyond Missouri Sky.
Time seems to have SPED UP on some of us.
So leave it to 'Pat' to flow with TIME.
I love you Pat, you are with me since 15 years old (i am 53) thanks!
I’m in jovial tears listening to this!! This is my favorite musician of all time and I was so honored to have met him in person!!
What an extraordinary rendition of a classic Metheny group cut. Not taking anything away from the mega talent that is James Francies, but hearing anything from the PMG just makes me miss Lyle...
@@Gary_J_Meade_55 Nice one, Gary. Looking forward to the new release "Eberhard". One of the Grammys Lyle won was when he was at North Texas State Uni, in their legendary One O'Clock Lab Band. Student Lyle wrote most all the compos for that Grammy winning 1975 album. The Grammy went to the entire Band, but my goodness when you listened to the album and those compos, you knew something in the future was going to happen to Lyle. czcams.com/video/NWbpAEKsspk/video.html
true enough. Pat Metheny, who is always at the top of his masterful game, has and always will collaborate with the best of the best, but Lyle's synonymy with the PMG can never be replaced.
🔥Pat is one of my few true HEROS! -- 🔥🔥🔥 Thank you Pat for of the deep deep emotinos that your music makes me feel (Heitor Castro from Rio - Brazil)
It's just amazing how Pat and his band can make such complex playing sound so lyrical and musical. What a beautiful fresh take on this classic!
very true!!!And very beautiful!
That’s how a master is define. Master transform complex pieces into an understandable and simple language.
Coming from a tremendous musician like you, the message is more accurate !, cheers Walter !
That's why I've been a huge fan of Pat since the early 80s.
until now, I'm still confused by how Pat and his band could make tunes like these. A very high musicality in their head, heart, and soul..
Another new recording? So soon? I'm not complaining, I'm just amazed... I can hardly wait.
Pat,...Pat... every time I listen to you, you make my heart and soul vibrate, and tears flow from emotion ❤️❤️❤️
Yep the man is capable of that, so wonderfully often....blessed.........
Like no other!!!
I’m so glad to hear some of u are also in tears listening to this musical genius ……. 😘 🎸 🎹 🥁🎶😘
This is like time travel set to music it is like hearing some of the best of Pat all over again but in a totally new way that feels familiar and yet new
Betters days thks Pat 🤩
Arnold, you summed up my feeling, thank you
My favorite guitarist ever! This version is the best gift call for this year, what a beautiful version
A lovely reworking and rearranging of a Metheny back catalogue classic. Cheers, Pat, et al.🙏☀️🇬🇧👍🙏
Heard him play this live in this God-forsaken meth hell I'm stuck in (AKA Indiana).
I never tire of this.
Such a pleasure to have listened to Pat for over 25 yrs
Pat Metheny discovered in 1982. How many years from now?
Always and forever...
Beautiful reworking and arrangement of this PMG classic with a much more slower and laidback approach.
I just caught this Trio in Atlanta last Saturday Feb 12
It was a beautiful night
PAT is The Yoda.💪💪👍👍🙏🙏😁😁
What a nice surprise, last night I spun Offramp and Still Life (Talking). Thx Pat...
Still Life Talking - I've listened to that album a million times. 💜 So many sounds. Pat continues to expand my universe with his style.
@@FarandAwayHome Yea, agreed...
Pat's been doing this as long as I've known of him. He was in elementary school. I Shared his neighborhood. Great guy, Old Lee"s Summit's brilliant son. His whole family were special, nice people . But you folks probably know that. Thanks
Jeff Bilyeu
cuenta, cuenta ...
tell us, tell us more
Thank's Jeff for your Lee's Summit witness. Been following Pat since the White Album, having grow up in OKC before crossing the pond for Europe, for the good, in the mid-80s. You are right Pat is great. Cherished story involving Antonio Sanchez and Pat in Lisbon. After their SON gig I escorted by foot Antonio and two classical musicians from the beautiful venue to the infamous Hot Clube (the original location before the Dec 2009 fire) (est 1935)....small, very cool and simple basement jazz club, (stools only to sit on/simple bar) that saw the greats come through (ex Charlie Haden played there when he was in the Capitol). In the back of the main music room is the on point garden and the toilets. At the band who were there that evening break, that we 4 were watching, Antonio goes to chat with the trio band drummer, man there was mutual respect/sympatico vibe there, and then I went to go to the loo. Passed through the door to the garden, and low and behold Pat sitting down with three composers....reading their charts/scores!!!! What can you say....amazed but not at all surprised this scenario. What a night, first time to meet Pat too! Midwestern sensibilities at their best.
@@jazzfusioner9840 In 1998 I got to visit Lisboa at the end of a cruise ship contract and went to the Hot Club. I couldn't believe the high level of musicianship I heard at that tiny little place. It was awesome. Do you still live there? Seems like you all have a strong music scene there.
@@harrymillermusic4036 Hi Harry, I was in Lisbon for a meeting and scheduled the meeting date to coincide with the SON gig. Over the years I had meetings in Lisbon, I'd religously go to Hot Clube in the eve. Its one of the best jazz clubs in Europe from all my travels around Euroland. And as you say the level of musos that gigged there was very high. I am not a professional musician but I still play my trumpet n flugelhorn, which I took up age of 11. My trumpet Gods were Maynard, Chase, Doc, Don. Unfortunately Hot Clube had a horrific fire in that basement in Dec 2009. Nothing for two years till the team relocated a couple doors down to a modern thing that is street level. Not the same charm n vibe obviously as the basement established in 1935, and all those old photos that adorned the walls and the stories n music those walls heard....and the very cool peps that attended the gig.. Conversations were quiet n convivial and when a band began the convos stopped and the good peps listened...love Lisbon...
@@jazzfusioner9840 gracias por compartir!!

Do not stop
I love the reinvented version of this.
He's amazing--each and every time.
Love you Pat. Saw you live at Bunkies, Headliners, and Merlyn's in Madison WI in the 70s.
The One,and only Pat Metheny's Ecological Jazz...Masters !...
Happy Birthday !!!! Pat ,67 notches on our Belt now - not more, not less
just loop , loop and loop...... Addicted>
Metheny with a Robert Glasper flavor.
Such a fresh and different flavour for an old classic Pat song. Love it!
Yeah, such a different feel. Can't say which version I like better.
@@MLHunt Question: Which version do you like better - the original or this revised version?
Answer: Yes!
The mixture of Are You Going With Me, Third Wind, Kin, and Rain River. Pat Metheny always kept the faith of jazz fusion and classic smooth jazz since Last Train Home. As sure as Lyle Mays smiling down at Pat once again, just like that.
I love this version so much. It's the slower live reflective poetry version suggested by its bitter-sweet ttle.
Last year we lost legendary keyboardist and composer Lyle Mays. He will be truly missed.
A beautiful 👏Pat 💐Thank you💐
Someone has listened to Zawinul.Beautiful playing.
One more time, a genius music, a genius man
I come to your page by way of your interview with Rick Beato. However.....I have been a fan of yours since my brother introduced me to you by way of your album American Garage way back in 1979 and now I am thrilled to be reminded of your great artistry. Now it's time for me to delve deeper into your rich catalog of pure musicality!
Wow. Love it. Reminds me of the amazing bossa nova version of “Giant Steps” on 99>00
exact !
Remembering the original I burned and wore out that C.D. ; )
I am always knocked out at how Pat is always evolving, always growing musically... here he has been at it For 40 + years, and his music is always interesting, always challenging.
Woke up with the original version of this song in my head which lead to me falling down a “Pat Metheny” sized rabbit hole on the internet. Didn’t know he was still out there making music. So happy I stumbled across this. It made me cry.
Always loved this song, looking forward to seeing the Side Eye when they come to my area….
Lyle mays .so missed here in Luanshya Zambia.pat metheny group had added sunshine to our lives and beautified our souls immensely
Saw the PMG when they first started out while in college. One of my favourite groups
What a mix.
The Robert Glasper of guitar... This song is everything. Love those stops and pauses - Heaven. Totally lit
that bass!!!!!!!
You have provided me with musical and emotional nourishment since the mid 70's, when I first heard you with Gary Burton. These new songs, that give a foretaste of your new album, are so amazingly good. God bless you, my age-mate Pat!
Can't wait!!☺️
whoever mixed this deserves a joint. Pet remains one of my favourite guitarists of ALL time
Better days ahead🍀
Hope to see him as scheduled next year🎵
First saw him in a practice room at the
University of Kentucky

Awesome
Then many times at Ravinia in Chicago .
He's one of Gods gifts
They come from high to be among us...the giants...
Just got my seats to see him in Asheville, NC in February. Row E Orchestra......this is going to be a blast. Ben listening to this man for over 38 yrs.
Great way to tap into your own classics
vellutato e ispirato, come sempre
Weird hearing Pat with an Electric Piano accompaniment. But James Francies delivers a different texture to the Metheny brand and makes you appreciate the song again in a different way.
Magica ...Tu!
That bass is pure FIYAH!!!!!
I've been listening to superb music like this since 1981. I'm looking forward to see Pat Metheny performing the show in Sao Paulo - Brazil, that unfortunatelly was suspended due to the pandemic. I hope you may come soon! 2021_August_18
Wow!!! Amazing rendition! Never thought to play it this way, holy smokes! Pat, you're an inspiration beyond what words can express!!
wow
i am still alive and see this video
I love how many references there are in this cut from the last 4 decades!!! Seriously, Pat is pretty much saying, "yeah, I'll jump in again and keep the modern jazz dialogue going, but I'm far more secure in myself than you guys are so here's more inside notes than you would ever have the courage to play, and, oh yeah, here's some trip hop flavors, some classic nodds, some Joey D, and I'm also going to push this whole thing in the right direction for a change. What do you have to say about that, wierd academic jazz nerd driving away listeners players?". Love it!!!
Pat Metheny and good coffee. Is there a better way to start a Saturday morning? I don't think so.
WISHES FOR BETTER DAYS AHEAD FOR ALL…THANKS PAT
Lucky to meet the new arrangement of the classic by chance in CZcams!
Pure pleasure........ahhhh
Nice! I love this rendition ❤️
Wonderful music. Suites our times and helps in the current situation of things... Better Days ahead for sure
Thank you, Pat. And Happy (late) B'day!
makes me more and more waiting for Utrecht/NL next year!!!!
Intellectually stimulating, and also soothing, the ambience Metheny creates is beautiful, and his use of space gives the impression of constant motion .... genius
HAPPY BDAY PAT!!!! THANKU VERY MUCH, YOUR MUSIC IS THE BEST.FROM BS AS!!!!❤

I really love Pat Metheny and suddenly this beautiful lirics appeared to me, like jumping from the CZcams!!! Such amazing song! Magali wrote it in August 13th, 2021.
Love this tune… nice to hear it again like this
I know this feeling. Looking through old photos after a move.
First: Like, Second: Listen this composition!
Pat's been pumping out the albums lately!
Thank you so much for the good music at this night.
The Best
I just did my peer-order Patrick! Um abraço meu amigo!
Music doesn’t get in. Music is already in. Music simply uncovers what is there, makes you feel emotions that you didn’t necessarily know you had inside you, and runs around waking them all up. A rebirth of sorts.”

Nice one, Rebecca....case in point for me for the Haig's book Title (among so many others with Pat projects, PMG, et.al.).... "Secret Story" gig.... in Zurich....
Amazing performance of a beautiful song. How poor are my words...
Will someone kind enough to share the names of the group members. That keys guy was killing it wow! The bass player’steady story telling bass lines wow! Have some good time with this sound gem. Peace out bros.
