Welcome to the Thousand Acre Wood, where "Wheezy the Blue" and friends guide us through understanding cystic fibrosis (CF) in part 1 of a 2-part series. CF is a genetic condition that’s characterized by abnormally viscous thick secretions that affect multiple organs and is the most common life-shortening genetic disorder among Caucasians due to mutations in the CFTR gene, notably in the delta F508 variant. Symptoms range from lung problems and recurrent infections to pancreatic issues and bone disease. Early diagnosis, often through newborn screening, is crucial for managing CF-related complications effectively.
